I feel sorry for the Gunsmith. Standing behind that counter all day. Nothing to do. No one to talk to. (Except maybe a lvl 8 character) maybe the occasional Exotic Bounty lead.
A couple of my ideas:
Allow him to upgrade weapon levels. The Stranger's rifle is cool, but at lvl 16 it lacks punch. What if I could upgrade it to 17, 18, 20? 300 attack on the Khovostov? Think about it!
Allow him to change the elemental effect Let me take a rocket launcher that I like. Maybe its one that upgrades to the triple clip but it's only a lvl 18 with Arc damage. I could use my glimmer to get it to 20 and then change it to Void.
The fact is I don't even care if it's expensive. Give me (and the Gunsmith) something to do with my marks and glimmer. I'd pay 5000 to level it up. I'd pay the same to change the elemental. And I don't know if glimmer is the best fit for upgrade currency, the developers know best on that one, but let's put this guy to work again.
I hope he's on salary, cause if he's getting paid by the hour, bungie, you need to let him go.
Update: After the House of Wolves Twitch reveal some of the most requested stuff will become reality! Thanks Bungie!
Reforging weapon perks- Check!
Legendary weapon Engram
Vendor reputation level
Weapon Telemetries- Check!

Hint: next DLC we can upgrade exotic weapons
-
I think they should change weapon engrams into "Unidentified weapon frames" and you take them to the gunsmith to have him identify it like the cryptarc would. And ranking reputation with him unlocks gun shaders, scopes, and possible legendary/exotics weapons. Have his inventory be scaled gear to the player, that consists of rare level 20 weapons.
-
Yeah he only sits there meeting low levels and people buying ammo synthesis.
-
yep, as of right now he is pretty much useless past level 20. and he has never gunsmithed anything, he is just a run of the mill gun dealer that deals in shitty guns. like a pawn shop. give this guy the power to mod guns, like you say with different perks and elemental damage being obvious, and sell legendary guns at prices comparable to the faction vendors.
-
There's always that one person that no one really cares about, and in destiny it's the gunsmith. The only time I see him get attention is when he sells rare fusion rifles.
-
deej mentioned changes coming to the gunsmith soon in a future game update as well as buying upgrade materials and alternatives to farming chests. i think we might be lucky enough to see some of our ideas actually come true soon. most likely the gunsmith will deal in upgrade materials and MAYBE sell upgrades and perks. we will see.
-
We make him a target to practice our new guns on. There's an idea
-
Doubt any of that would happen since it would require work from bungie
-
Other than buying Synthetic ammo boxes or whatever you call them his stock is pointless to look at when you reach a certain rank.
-
I'd like it if he could change the abilities on a weapon. For example I love Thorn, but I don't like the Final Round does bonus damage mod. If that could be changed at the gunsmith, it would help us customise our gear without making it too overpowered. Maybe he could sell weapon modules for that. Buy a mulligan mod, sell a final round mod in exchange. We all have different playstyles, but the weapons sometimes lack what we need to suit us individually.
-
Again? Was he ever relevant?
-
They dont want him to do anything useful like you described. They need the slow grind for gear to keep you playing, otherwise you would just need 3 of each type of weapon and some currency to be maxed out on gear. Maxxed out = stop playing. So they do everything they can to control how long it takes you to get geared up.
-
Weapon attachments. Sights, grips, stocks, barrels ect.
-
Give him some gun shaders, then we could change the color of our guns
-
Let him add elemental damage modifiers to fully upgraded legendary and exotic weapons and as mentioned shaders and add-ons.
-
Sell legendary's for a ridicouless high price
-
Edited by CrobanDallas: 11/12/2014 7:12:12 PMI use him on the daily since i abuse my ammo synthesis always keep 20 primary,40 secondary, 40 heavy. I never will run out of ammo
-
He actually does have people to talk to, it's just that he's getting tired of listening to millionaire jews that talks about nothing but stock markets with the gunsmith, and pretty much always buys the cheapest weapons he sells if they do decide to buy something.
-
Level 20 (massively expensive) Khovostov? MAXIMUM YESH!
-
Edited by TPoppaPuff: 11/12/2014 11:49:14 PMAs I said in my thread on the feedback board, once you're level 20 the gunsmith should be selling nothing but blues. I get the impression that Bungie did tons of bug-testing on this game, which is appreciated, but never did any actual playtesting.
-
He was never relevant, the things I received from loot chests and drops were better then anything he ever sold. Have someone else sell ammo synth and get rid of him. Useless NPC!
-
He should kill Xur and offer to sell the other factions weapons/Amour for them. Or just close shop because his merchandise is obsolete. Or being a'Gunsmith' he should be needed to upgrade our weapons. Destiny is fun but Bungie employees spent more time playing the Raids then working on the game obviously.
-
Edited by ShadowScorp99: 11/12/2014 10:04:28 PMThe only thing I can ever see him doing is once every week or so he will sell a legendary or a exotic engram or weapon for the about 25,000 glimmer. At that point I can imagine that they will also raise the glimmer cap.
-
Let him change elemental damage on guns that have all 3 - such as light/beware can be all three and mines arc. Let me spend tons of "something" to change it to void. Or even just re-roll a single talent on a guns upgrade tree for a new "random" one since we all know bungie loves rng
-
Make him give us spinmetal or relic iron for weapon parts
-
Gunsmith has his purposes. He's good for ammo synthesis and for lower levels to purchase weapons. But it would be nice to see his duties expanded. I like the ideas of a gun range, or perhaps switching out your skill tree or elemental damage.
