Destiny Story - 1st Compilation of Community Theories

Here I have taken some of the best and most in-depth theories contributed to an older theory topic I created, all authors are credited accordingly: (Read the original topic here.) Vex Inverse Temporal Vector - Griffensaber

Anyone else notice how the Vex from the future look rather primitive almost like prototypes while the Vex from the past look polished and well developed like the end of a long cycle of development. Wouldn't it be weird if it turned out the vex civilisation was traveling through time with an inverse temporal vector. So that the birth of the Vex occurs sometime in the future perhaps created by rasputin as a final solution to the problems it faces. I think I remember one of the grimoire cards mentioning an extrasolar temporal event perhaps this was the casaulity wave rippling back through time adjusting the past to the consequences of the future creation of the vex. It would be weird if it turned out mankind developed Rasputin which eventually created the Vex which travel backwards through time eventually creating the Traveller at the height of their civilisation, billions of years ago eventually resulting in the world as we know it today, effectivelly being the third timeline of human history except no other timeline exists because it is a unified temporal universe where last cause becomes the reality. That would be heaps trippy. Like the time captain jean luc picard did that experiment with a tachyon stream(i think, long time since I have seen that episode) where he irradiated the primordial ooze with the amoeba that would have one day evolved into human life, effectively exterminating all human life before it even got started. Hey its all just speculation, I can't be bothered researching it, I still don't have all the grimoire cards yet, so there are clues I am still missing, anyway. Peace.

Ghost/Vex Origins - Fondeezy

I can't quote the exact grimoire card, but the Vex did not originate from the Black Garden. I believe the original gardener was defeated (as mentioned by Rasputin) and the Vex took over the garden. The Vex were not able to understand/comprehend the power and total scope of the garden and therefore started to worship it as the only logical next move once comprehension failed them. Other than that, I really enjoyed the read. I wonder, if ghosts were created from the garden, would they poses the time altering ability of the garden as well? If so, that could explain how guardians are brought back from the dead at the beginning and time again. My thought was that the reason we can continue to do Vault over and over again after the whole raid team dies is because we are continually reliving alternate time streams until we reach the desired result (destroying Atheon). It would be interesting if being tethered to a ghost allows guardians to be manipulated in the time stream to continuously be resurrected. Another theory I was reading was that when Rasputin kills off the majority (or entirety) of humanity as a "lose the fight but win the war" strategy, souls could have been re-purposed into making ghosts. In turn, the ghosts are only able to connect with the specific remains of the body which housed that soul the ghost was made from. I also find it interesting the Vex organic matter incorporated into their construction (as the Vex experiment grimoire cards mention). On top of that, the Vex fixation on humanity is equally as intriguing. Perhaps when the collapse happened, Rasputin somehow created the Vex using the majority of humanity as "raw material" combined with technology (a sort of bio-mechanical synthesis a la star trek). This ties in the organic material they are made of and their fixation on humanity (as Rasputin was created during the Golden Age to protect humanity. Undoubtedly, the AI would have a vast majority of its attention put on theorizing human situation response to understand and correctly assess the its goal to protect humanity). Mind you, the majority of my speculations revolve around the idea that the guardians and this current time period have already happened hundreds of times over. The difference is the Exo-Stranger interfered with the time stream at a pivotal point (before the Vex have fully harnessed the capabilities of the Black Garden). This interference led to the guardians pursuing the Vex into the Black Garden and Vault of Glass severely crippling the Vex's ability to become "one" with the time stream. If the traveler is the darkness, then my next question is, who does the grimoire card talk about when referring to "her". Rasputin mentioned that "IT" (presumably the darkness) was more powerful than "her" (the original gardener). Rasputin learned from "IT". Food for thought. TL:DR = A lot of crap could be going down throughout multiple time streams. Humans = Vex, Travel = Darkness, Ghost can manipulate time, Exo-Stranger is the reason we can become legend and make a destiny for ourselves better than the current future.

Hive & Vex Association With Rasputin - CrimsonVlk23, malsamax, WykidJestr
CrimsonVlk23:
Probably the reason the story is so bland as it is. Originally the Traveler and Guardians/Speaker are the bad guys but they had to try to half-ass rewrite it towards the end to make us look good so none of it makes sense. I've had the feeling all along we're like the space zombies just rezzed to do the Speaker's bidding. "Kill this, kill that, don't ask questions" kind of thing. Reminds me a bit of the plot of Oblivion, we are basically Tom Cruise not realizing the Tet is evil at first. Personally I think the warminds defeated the Traveler at a great cost to humanity and Rasputin is all that is left. This would explain why the hive are trying to get into the RAS2 bunker in Forgotten shore with a servant of Oryx in the bottom of the boat near the Vault entrance. I think his AI core is in there and they want to destroy it to remove the last obstacle to bringing back the Traveler, meanwhile Rasputin is trying to reach out to the rest of the system to see what remains of the other warminds to see if he can get their resources/revive them, which would explain why he's in the machines on Mars. Meanwhile the Speaker and ghosts rez all of us up and create their own little myth about the past and what really happened and they now have their own little army to fight the Traveler's enemies. The only thing that doesn't make sense is why we are fighting against the Hive, but perhaps that was just lost in translation when they re-did the story, or its a cover to hide the Hive's true purpose. I also believe the Awoken are humans that escaped Earth during the collapse and gained new powers/abilities and appearances while living for centuries on the borders of dark space. They know the truth about the Traveler and have remained in hiding. Of course sadly we'll never know if any of this is true.
malsamax:
Really great comment, when I found that RAS-2 bunker it looked to me as though that servant of Oryx was defending Rasputin, maybe that ties in with the Warminds siding with what we call the Darkness, fighting against the true threat to what he was built to defend (since humanity no longer exists I believe he defends what is left of it). To me the RAS-2 computers seem to be forced into position of the walls of the bunker, not even comparable to the finesse of pre-collapse scientists and engineers, there are huge masses of wires running in all directions and boxes clearly from the moon. Looks to me like the hive put Rasputin there, maybe to observe the traveller from close by? There's also a symbol on the all boxes I took a note of to keep an eye out for when I replay the story missions, I think it might represent Rasputin or the people who built the Warminds.
^Just noting that this would also explain the nearby Hive seeder with lvl 20 enemies. WykidJestr:
Another explanation would be that the hive were the first race chosen by the traveler to be its heralds, but that they proved too weak against humanity's armies. So the Hive are attacking us not as enemies of the traveler but as more of a competition for daddy's attention, mad because we took their spot. Why else would they have already been seeding earth? Because they are left over of the initial war between them. Then you might ask, "okay so then explain the vex." The vex are a power of balance. They are essentially guardians of time and balance throughout the galaxy. Always keeping either side from completely winning. This also explains why the awoken got mad when you guardian says he wishes to destroy the black garden.

Unfortunately I've run out of space for the other great theories, I will post the links below to future topics.
