I Feel Cheated

I want to preface this post by stating that I have been a Bungie fan since the beginning, not halo mind you, but the MAC when you released two of the most amazingly written and complex story based FPS Marathon and Marathon II Durandal. It was playing those two videogames that I feel in love with the medium because of the stories it could tell. You then went farther and blew me away with The Fallen Lords and its sequel Soul Blighter, not only were you revolutionizing games but ruining entire genres for me, after those two story driven incredibly complex rts/rpg hybrids I could never enjoy another rts again. (Had to save the archers and grenadiers no matter what :) and the fact that you could kill soul blighter by healing him... GENIUS! I followed Bungie from that point on, never regretting a single purchase. I even own original copies of ONI and both TFL and TFL II as well as Marathon and Marathon 2 for the MAC (even though I can't play them anymore). I never regretted a single purchase of a game from you, until today that is. Destiny is nothing like your previous work, right now it doesn't even hold up to the material on its own packaging. You have no storyline to speak of, why do I go to the moon? What the heck is Rasputin? Why do we never hear about him again until Mars... and when we do it makes no sense. I feel like I am playing a game with a story equivalent to a Game of Thrones book a toddler has gotten to and ripped out huge sections of randomly. The content it not there. I heard the demo was only supposed to be 10% of the game, it was at least 40%. I have to compare this to either a fps - which you dont want me to do as recently I have had the experience of playing the new Wolfenstein and that storyline was good enough to make me tear up. When comparing content Wolfenstien had 20 hours of intense story driven single player content and levels with multiple ways to approach each enemy encounter. Or a MMO and you don't want me to do that either as I would compare it to either Wildstar or Guild Wars 2, both of which had individual personalized "meaningful" stories to play single player in the midst of the multiplayer game, as well as, a truly integrated world with group gameplay needed and done very well. Also on the content side of both these games they each had 80 + hours of NEW content with very little recycled places to visit or missions to do. I have tried to love this game, just look at the amount of hours I poured into it. The gameplay mechanics for the fps side are flawless. I am truly awed by the level of perfection. Yet that same perfection is ultimately damning when it comes to the rest of the game. No story, at least that makes sense, and no meaningful content, the little content that is here is incredibly grindy. I waited until now to say anything and to pass judgement but with the advent of the last update log you posted and all you talked about was the awful pvp and complete ignoring of the pve side of the game, and the pitiful DLC content coming I honestly have to say I feel cheated. The last time I felt this way was when Bioware released DA2 and ME3 I will not preorder anything from them again and I will not be preordering anything from you ever again, baring you fix the mess your pve game is in SOON, not two DLCs from now but starting with your next few weekly patches. You have my hard earned money already unfortunately that includes the two DLCs as I mistakenly bought the Limited Edition believing in your promises from your vidocs and own statements, none of which you have met yet. I know the Bungie I have followed for years can fix this. I know you can repair the damage, but by doing nothing but working on the pvp side you ignore your diehard fans the ones that know you as innovative storytellers and master world crafters. Please for the sake of your reputation, and your most loyal fans do right by us, fix the pve, repair the story, hell patch in new remastered story missions with new dialogue, something, anything, give me a reason to believe. As right now one of your most loyal fans is highly disappointed and feels like he was sold a lemon. I don't forget things like this, because of how Activision treated its employees I went over 8 years without buying a single game from them, only breaking my own rule to get Diablo 3 and now Destiny both because of the companies that made them. I know you can fix this, but to start doing so we need communication that at the very least acknowledges the current state of pve and some statements about what you are going to do to repair it. The question is are you still the same Bungie or is that Bungie dead and gone? The only way I know which one is real is determined by your answer or lack there of... Sincerely yours, A loyal fan.

As a addendum on this original post - Bungie go play Dragon Age Inquisition that has (while admittedly a bit generic story) a AMAZING amount of content (something you promised BUT DID NOT DELIVER) I'm over 112 hours into the game and have only visited 4 of the games actual zones (only 3 of which in depth) with like 8 more to go AT LEAST and its all novel content and unique locations that DWARF this game in every way. I'm pretty sure you could fit all of Destiny into the Hinterlands..... And I don't feel like I'm simply spending time grinding... as anyone from Bungie should be able to see I have put 0 hours into Destiny in November. Not sure I will come back in December either.. unless you guys fix the PVE and stop focusing on PVP...

  • All I can really say is that for the past month I have spent far more time visiting this companion app than the actual game. It's a great place to discuss gaming and connect with people. Glad I have not purchased the dlc's and pretty sure I won't be in the future. I remember my first minutes playing this game and was in awe! That has all gone away and turned to awwww damn!

  • This video that follows is the most well thought out and articulate denunciation of the lies Bungie told over Destiny, and their sad attempts to sweep it under the rug. EVERY Destiny player should see/hear it ASAP! : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UZ5BpeHVTWY&list=PLLeN1O8-rQ0iXwoDP66i0LKprtdwzte7V

    • as a addendum to the previous post, the fact that the President of Bungie just stated if we have over 100 hours in the game we have no reason to complain.... really? Doesn't having 100 hours into the game prove that we have the experience needed to give good feedback?

      • I was a heroin addict for years, something I'm not proud of but it's made me who I am nonetheless. Anyways getting dope is a very shady kind of ordeal, you never know what you're getting even though your dealer advertises the best shit around. Sometimes is way too cut and isn't at all worth the money I just gave up for it, and after complaining and receiving more at no cost, he knows he has you hooked. You wake up cold sweats and nauseous, just hoping you would die. Even though it goes against your better judgement you still pick up the phone and call the same dealer hoping maybe he got better stuff, or he will be nicer and give you a larger amount of the shitty stuff to make up for the quality. You get home, open that bag and realize after 30 mins you are again disappointed and left feeling empty as before. It's a vicious never ending cycle, where you're left hanging on by empty promises and baited to throw more money at a product that isn't worth shit but something that if done right is something that I loved. Bungie is now my dope dealer, I'm left hanging on by promises of a beautiful immersing world that will last for 10+ years, only to wake up in cold sweats because of the money, time, and patience I've lost due to the scam this game has pulled on me. I crave an MMORPG, I lived for runescape, WOW, guild wars, shit even wizards 101, anything I could get my hands on and level up feeling a sense of accomplishment. I love the feeling of slaying monsters, upgrading my character, and then slaying more intense and tougher monsters. I live for the thrill of talking shit to a player on opposing teams and then Ganking them pvp style. Those are the reasons I still play destiny, even though it might be heroin with way too much cut, I still can't get over my cravings for a game that has atkeast some rpg elements (even if very loosely) but Bungie one day a new drug dealer will move into town, they will have good dope, just as advertised, and you'll end up getting your Maserati repoed because you lost you clientele because you're too cheap to stop cutting your dope with baby laxatives.

        • Im Lvl 30, and have put many hours into the little PvE content there currently is, in order to get to Lvl 30 and be ready for the upcoming DLC. 1new strike and 1raid. Notice i didnt mention the 3 regular story missions, thise arent even worth mentioning, and the PvP maps are a plus, but Destiny doesnt need any more PvP content, its PvE what it needs. I was like hell yeah new DLC, i been doing the same 8 or so strikes over and over, theiyre fun but im ready for more. 1strike (2 for PlayStation users, which is a slap to the face to Xbox users, but thats a whole another deal) and 1 raid, Not even a new planet. Thats absolutely ridiculous.

          • I agree. Bungie has done lots of great games in the past. While destiny is fun, it's not what I was promised, or what I expected. The story is very short and limited. PvE is really lacking pazazz. Please, fix this Bungie, for everyone...

          • I disliked this game day 1. It felt empty and pointless. That dislike grows day by day. I definitely got my money's worth , playtime-wise, but after this... I'm done with any future Bungie releases. They obviously aren't the same company anymore. When I saw Activision was the publisher (way back when) I felt uneasy. When the whole no reviews until post-release thing came to light in the 2 week lead up, I felt a strong inclination to cancel my pre-order. Like a fool however, I still got the game at release. Regretted it since. In the long run I believe Bungie will feel the long-term effects. Just like DICE and the BF4 debacle, consumer trust/loyalty has been lost and in many cases is unlikely to be remedied. Thanks for the memories Bungie. Looking forward to re-playing your previous games in the Master Chief Collection and reliving some quality games again. It's a shame your new IP couldn't live up to the same standards.

            • I honestly hope that the DLC is either amazing and shuts us all up, or completely flops and Bungie finally feels a bit of shame for some of the shit they've pulled with Destiny. Right now they obviously aren't hurting from the initial hype sales...

              • Agreed. We constantly hear things in the story like "I could tell you" it's ridiculous, where is the story? Give us a reason to invest our time fighting for this traveller as right now no-one cares about it!. It's almost as if Bungie gave Activision a game and they gutted the story out to sell off in DLCs but your comment about the VP of Bungie saying we shouldn't complain because we've played it for long enough is worrying if this is an mmo a 100 hours is nothing. People have been playing WoW for over 10 years! Please don't ignore posts like these because there is still time to put it right! If you get all defensive and ignore the fans my pre-order for DLC content won't be the only one you lose. Do the right thing Bungie.

                • Bump!!!
Bungie died when it sold itself to Activision. I don't believe in legal action against violation of contract. F*** the contract. If we don't get along, we don't get along. Conditioned love doesn't work in this world. Activision is pulling Bungie's chain at every turn and swerve. Activision wants Bungie to make an indie title Marathon game: only 5% of staff. We don't want Marathon: Infinity on Xbox One. We want a fully fleshed out Marathon game with parkour and kickass music. Specifically, a remake of the series where the first game is pre - Marathon and Marathon. The second game is Marathon: Durandal with the Marathon: Infinity interlude. The third game is a brand new one, where we end Bungie's famous trilogy works. My life is complete. • Well put and I agree. I would also like to point out that I have done everything asked of me to get ascendant shards to improve my armor yet I never get them. I never get legendary drops and when I do the heroic daily story I always get ascendant energy except on 2 occasions. Decoherent engrams are always what the pictures show. I feel like I am being limited in a cheap attempt to keep me playing longer. It is offending and I fell like this whole game is a waste of time now.

                    • Well said...I have about 180 hours in and I do in fact feel like this game is lacking in a lot. I like the game I paid 60$ for. Thats why I play it but it also sucks in a lot of ways. Only a real gamer will understand that meaning. I have gone through the story twice and I still cant figure out or even care about the traveler. People play it over and over cause of loot.

This. Exactly this. I never owned an XBox, and I wasn't allowed by my parents at the time to play Halo 1 on PC, but I still snuck out to an internet cafe, lived at my friend's house, did whatever it took to play every Halo game as it came out because not only were the gameplay mechanics sweet, the levels beautiful, and the character designs intriguing, the story was so deep I always felt that, at the end of each game, I had saved the world. Destiny? Nothing. Not even a glimmer. The story is so abbreviated it's practically nonexistent. There are mumblings about a Traveler, about Light, about a Golden Age--it's summed up perfectly when, in the first cinematic opportunity Bungie had to make us care about the characters and world, the Speaker says "I could tell you". That right there, RIGHT THERE, is exactly the problem with this game. You could have told us, Bungie; you just didn't.
