Its funny to think that people actually believe that knocking Atheon off is a understandable method of defeating him. This is by far a glitch. And stuff like this always happens to new games. Players will always spend hours trying to figure out how to get the easy way out...instead of going through the intended grind. Same with the loot caves...who the hell thinks that standing in front of a cave for hours is fun. Before the Cryptarch patch, i already had several exotic and legendary weapons/armor. I know the drop rate sucks at times, but this is an MMO...if you want instant gratification, then go back to Borderlands.
It is great that Bungie is doing the patches that they are doing. Its not like it is free for them, it costs them time and money to do so, and it forces you lazy bums to play the games the way it was meant to be played.
When i see level 27-28 players beating Atheon on hard mode then yeah, they need to fix this.

For example, I'm already level 29/30 for all my chars, but I always switch to low gear to train them to dismantle for more materials, thus dropping to 27/28 or lower. Same goes for weapons. But yeah, if u were to inspect their highest gear sets and it only allows them to reach 27 then cheese has probably spread onto atheon. It resembles WoW's gear score addon, where the gear u wear at that moment determines ur current "gear score".

The only fun thing about destiny is seeing what you got for completing something, or seeing that purple engram drop.

I've frequently raided with 27-28s on hard who were more useful than most 29s. Couple times in the normal runs we had a 25 be more useful than a pair of 28s. Lvl ain't the only factor in victory. I thought this was better graphics borderlands- are you telling me they sold me a POS MMO as an expansive open-world multiplayer game? Prior to the legendary patch- I had no exotics, and 6 legendaries. My first nitefall reward was a rare auto rifle- why would I want to do a nitefall to get loot I can find in a chest material-farming? Challenging missions should guarantee reasonable reward for their completion to make them worth doing, otherwise might as well just play patrol to get loot. "The Hardest boss in the game" shouldn't give the same loot as a lvl 2 dreg.

Well, i'm sorry...the level of players you played with during VoG makes no sense. You must of just played with people that are not to bright. A level 25 will never be as good as a 26+, a level 26 will never be as good as a 27+, a level 27 will never be as good as a 28+, and so on... There is damage mitigation on lower level players, they will not do/take as much damage as higher level characters, so I think you just met bad players. I have done the raid with level 26 players and it take over 4-5 hours to complete. While i have done the raid in a hour and 20 minutes with 6 level 28-29 players. The rest of your comment just confused me, i'm not comparing the graphics engine to Borderlands. I was not saying that just cause i got lucky with loot, everyone else did. And Atheon on hard mode does not drop the same loot as a level 2 Dreg.

Edited by A260512: 11/3/2014 7:32:12 AMNo, players a level or three below the enemies can't take or deal as much damage as a player the enemy's level or higher can, but the ability to deal/take damage and actually doing it are different. Yes, you're seeing high level players perform poorly and their ineptitude is inferior to a lower level trying. Don't get me wrong, stacking a raid group full of 25s ain't a good idea but a single player or two a few levels down doesn't always indicate a huge red flag or a major hindrance if they play well and have good gear. My point on the loot was it sucks doing one of these raids and being screwed on every box and from every checkpoint with Ascendent materials. Finish the raid and get 18 Ascendent materials isn't a worthwhile reward because those can come from anywhere. 3 Ascendent shards isn't exactly a rare haul. I'd much rather have the gear, even if it might be best to dismantle it.

FYI gun level doesn't equal player level. By level 21 I had Lord High Fixer and Zombie Apocalypse maxed out. I could damage everything. The only issue comes with receiving damage. If you're good, you're good. If you're bad, you'll die regardless. Raiding even with lvl 24s is fine-- so long as they do their part.

Ha, this is by far wrong. Your damage output will increase as your light level increases. I have never seen a level 24 in a raid...can you even join a raid at that level?

You can join a raid at 22. By the way, that ONLY goes for ability damage. Your fun does the damage of your gun. Dude, maybe before you argue with someone, know what you're taking about.

Not true at all. A maxed icebreaker on a level 30 will do more damage than the same weapon on a 29.. Fact

I don't even know how to respond to you... First of all, I was talking about how your gun has a separate damage than your abilities, which are based on your level. Secondly, you do realize that you dropped a level, right? Third, I have the Ice Breaker. It has done lower damage the higher the enemies I attack and vice-versa. My Lord High Fixer, maxed at level 21, was able to one-hit fanatics in the hard raid. That affect does not decrease the lower the level of the enemy, who have lower defense ratings. Fourth. "Fact." What the f**k. I'm laughing.

It does. Now, using abilities, you would do more damage. Our guns are literally exactly the same. I tested this right in the middle of my argument with Dante. Also, not having correct grammar makes you look like an idiot.

I did, dumbass. That was part of my post to Dante. I removed all light-containing armor and attacked 24s with a maxed-out weapon at level 20. I repeated the process with all of my original armor back on. There was no difference.

All tests were conducted against a level 26 Praetorian with a maxed out Icebreaker. Test 1: level 23 Titan using Ice breaker VS level 26 Praetorian - 555 Damage Test 2: level 24 Titan using Ice breaker VS level 26 Praetorian - 636 Damage Test 3: level 26 Titan using Ice breaker VS level 26 Praetorian - 1156 Damage Now STFU.. You should feel really stupid right now for calling others idiots when your dumb ass can't even conduct a damage test to back up your bullshit idea of how damage works. Did I just blow your mind? Did your really believe the nonsense you were spewing? How does it feel? Disbelief? Shame? Did it sting your pride? Do you feel like a dumbass? I bet you feel some type of way. Any more questions? .....I didn't think so. I'm ready for that apologie now.

Oh my -blam!-ing god. I'm done. I did a -blam!-ing test and nothing changed. I did a hard raid, a normal raid, and a tiger strike. Each time was with armor that put me up by increments of 1 level. NOTHING CHANGED BETWEEN LIGHT LEVELS. How the absolute -blam!- can you people be seeing these damn differences? I'm not replying anymore. Rot in your idiocy. I don't even care. Its across the board sir, not just on abilities. I have done alot of research on this, and it seems to be a growing debate. But there is evidence that actually supports this damage penalty on lower levels. A level 22 player wont even be able to do damage to the level 28 mobs in the vault due to a 100% damage penalty...there is a 32% damage penalty for just being 1 level lower then the mob your attacking. And remember, i'm not saying using UBER GUNZ at level 20 is not doing anything for you, it is, against level 20 mobs that is.

I know that enemy attack will do more damage to lower defense. That wasn't the issue. I did, however, already address it. I said "if you're bad, you're bad". What I meant by that was if you get shot, you're still going to die. When you said "debated" and "evidence to support", I wanted to stab you for being an idiot. These things are blatantly told to you in the game. Feel free to hover over "defense" and "attack" in your menu. What I said in the original post is that your gun does the damage of your gun. Light and level have no effect on your weapons, only your abilities. Defense happens to be a side-effect of the armor you wear. Again, please do not argue about things you don't know anything about.
