Sounds really racist but if you think about it, if it weren't for slavers shipping slaves over seas, then some of our greatest AA people would not exist. So flood I give you this question. With this knowledge, why or why wouldn't you go back in time to stop all slavery in Africa ever.
Edit:
This is a thread from b.old. I was surfing the Old Flood today and stumbled across it. The person who created it seemed a dullard of sorts, however, I see where he was coming from.
Edit 2:
I am only referring to slavery in the American colonies and later the states.

Slavery is the only way the emerging American economy could compete with foreign powers. If it weren't for slavery America would only be a shell of its current self. Does that mean that slavery is justified? lolno.
-
It made the american economy...
-
Yes, but most of the slaveholders didn't consider Africans humans, which they used to justify the slavery of them. Slavery, as soon as the U.S. formed, was prohibiting economical growth, as there were less jobs. Most people never gave a second thought about the moralities of it, as, again, they did not believe Africans to be true humans. You, in your other posts have talked about indentured servants, and what you say about them is true, and slavery was a good alternative, but that doesn't explain how it was good for the country.
-
Economically, slavery is a wonderfully inexpensive option.
-
I think it is moral. If you cut out all the connotations of what slavery means and what it represented in the past it is almost like a contract similar to live in maids or butler employment. Interestingly if you read the bible a slaves contract could be negotiated by both parties and the contract only lived to a max of 7 years before the slave was considered free of their debt or contract. If both parties were willing to continue the relationship as slave and master they were allowed to do that. Does slavery mean that you could beat the shit out of your slave and work them ragged? Well no. As a slave master you were obligated to treat them fairly and in some cultures as part of the family. They had days off where they were free to do what they pleased. Evil and selfish people are the reason why slavery is not accepted anymore.
-
We still would be here regardless if they brought us over or not Look at mexicans....oh..and every other race To answer your question..yes it was very bad and not a great moment for America. It was inhumane. Not all slaves were treated bad, but most of them were. Then it gave the white race a reason to think they are more superior than others..still till this day. Slavery affected this country in a negative way...no where near positive.
-
Well, one might argue it allowed the US to become economically powerful and then become the defender of the world for two world wars, I don't think it's justified.
-
It really was that bad.
-
Yes. It was.

Trolls like you can eat a dïck

Edited by I R1SE I: 10/25/2014 8:35:44 PMHe is saying Africans would be stuck in shanty towns in Africa if it weren't for slavery which is true.
-
If you every read any of the most brilliant writers you would have come across something that goes along the lines of "slavery is the greatest enemy of the free market economy". So no. Slavery never helped our economy, and was the cause for the fall of the Roman Empire. Bait harder

Edited by TribalA13X 93: 10/25/2014 8:02:26 PMSlavery is not moral, unless you work for something you're in debt to. If someone just kidnaps you and threatens to kill you if you don't do what they tell you, than that's just evil. The american slave era should've never existed. If I could go back in time to stop the slavery, even if it means the USA wouldn't be a world power like it is today, I'd still do it.
-
It did provide the country with lots of production, especially when the South began to switch to growing cotton. The only problem was the morality behind it and the fact that it hurt landless Southerns who needed jobs.

Trollololol

Still trying to justify slavery... Disgusting
-
Life was pretty terrible for some in Africa. Slavery was good in theory, taking peoples miserable lives, feeding them, and providing shelter in return for work. However, when people started harassing them, things got out of hand. Slavery is a terrible, terrible thing, but it existed for so long in the US, and still exists in other regions for justified reasons.
-
Our society is built on slavery. It has always existed and it always will.
-
The world isn't black and white it's grey this is an example as something that is terrible but also lead to equal rights etc.
-
Dude slavery was sick man........
-
Slavery is bad. Period.
