I'm of two minds when I read this post. Part of me appreciates the honesty of the suggestions, and the advice. The other part of me realizes that this sums up why Destiny went so bad, so fast, for me. As an older, adult gamer, I like to just sit down and dive into some casual co-op without these headaches. My regular life has enough of that; I don't need it from my gaming. The irony is, I pass most of your tests. I have two high level characters, loads of weapons, I use a mic, I like the idea of following the lead of someone who knows what they're doing, and when I know I'm going to be doing something like this, I can usually set aside 3 or 4 (or more) hours at night. However, most of these "raid group" threads feel like job interviews. People seem to get so intense, so serious, about all this raiding. For me, that just sucks the fun out of the game, and once that happens, I pretty much feel like moving on. In theory, the seemingly altruistic offers of group help are wonderful. But I've had lots of people post replies saying "sure, send me an FR...we'll help ya through the raid". Then night after night, they do the raid with their same regular group. As much as I have loved Destiny, the "social" framework, as far as I'm concerned, is an abject failure. Part of me wishes I'd never played the game just to avoid the letdown of these aspects of the game. To the OP, though, I do appreciate you taking the time to offer this kind of feedback, even if it did make me realize maybe I do just hate the game after all.

  • Thanks for the replies, guys. I find it pretty disappointing that Bungie would essentially make 20% of the game's content something that requires this ridiculous amount of commitment. And before anyone goes off on me for being lazy, or that always popular forum slam, "entitled", let me just say that there are different kinds of commitment. I have no problem working away at a game that demands commitment over time, but on a casual schedule. I played all the Dark Souls and Demon's Souls games. I understand and appreciate commitment. But this kind of commitment just feels like as much of a grind as the loot hunt. Dealing with the headaches of scheduling, poor leadership, lack of communication, and everything else, is something I can get in my everyday life. If Bungie can't create a game that allows people to simply pick up and play within a proper matchmaking system, in small increments, then they have failed to created a well-structured game. Bungie, either market yourself as a niche title with all the eccentricities that go with it, or embrace the mass market with something that EVERYONE can play. You can't have it both ways.

  • You don't have to participate in VoG. It's really not that big of a part of the game. If you can get with a decent group, it's 1.5 hours of your day. And that's killing Templar and Atheon legit, not pushing them. As to your last paragraph - they've done exactly that. They marketed this as a game that casuals could play, as well as "not so casual" to the "hardcore" gamer. Casual will just not really complete the raid very much, if at all. There is an expansion coming up before too long. It will have new gear that will help you level up higher than 29, without completing a raid. And really, if you aren't raiding, you don't need any higher than that right now anyway. And with all that being said - Nightfall is usually harder than VoG on normal.

  • Interesting. I did make it thru a nightfall. It was tough, and not a lot of fun.

  • The number of weapons you have to keep ready for nightfall is what makes it tough. Solar, Void and Arc damage are all important, depending on which strike the current nightfall is. It's truly a game of rock, paper, scissors. VoG on the other hand is all void damage. When the new raid comes out, it will probably be all about solar. The fact that the nightfall puts you back into orbit makes it much more tedious than VoG is. Take a couple hours one day and find a group; you'll get through VoG pretty easily.

  • It's amazing how much effort and seriousness people put into something that offers NO reward in real life other than to pass time and forget about how horrible one's day job is. I'm with you on the reasons why you play and it's the same for me. I won't do VoG because I don't put that much damned work into something unless I'm getting paid to do it. 11 hours in lab just to come home exhausted at 10pm and VoG? NO THANKS.

  • raids have always, and always will be, for the hardcore gamers (and im talking about raids in general for ALL RPGs, not just destiny) ffxi raids (dynamis and sea) took 6 - 10 hours to complete depends on the raid, those raids were scheduled on weekend mornings to evenings obviously you are not that into games, so dont put too much stock in vog or this thread

  • I understand where you are coming from but bear this in mind; not everyone is driven by money. Some are driven by passion.

  • I hear you 100% but honestly.. the term raid and casual will never go together haha. Raids are meant to be that serious content. But ive been in a raid wiping over and over and it was still fun. If you are in a clan it makes it so much easier
