I've finally figured out why there are so many people raging about this game.... For a long Time I couldn't understand why even if it were a bad game so many people would flock together to hate on it. Normally if a game sucks people just move on to the next one. Then it occured to me..... For the first time in History Console FPS'ers are being exposed to the love/hate relationship of the MMO genre.... What we are seeing is the classic "rage quit rant" that is so famous on every MMO out there, just on a much bigger scale. These are people who've spent tons of hours playing the game, then gotten frustrated, so now they're here raging about it.... Funny thing is 95% of them will be logging in again tomorrow and pretending like nothing ever happened....... Well my friends, Welcome to the Addiction.

  • It's kinda like how I felt when I played COD. Frustrated so eventually I stopped getting the games. But what a great statement fellow guardian.

  • I agree but I think you are missing a core point, any mmo that is just fundamentally bad won't go anywhere and people will actually quit for good, this game like so many mmos has huge potential and it's up to bungie to realize and deliver on it... look at diablo 3 it went stake and lost more than half it's player base because it wasn't delivering on potential and then boom reaper of souls and then the patch with greater rifts and bam!! Alot of people came back. This game was from the studio that brought us halo... and this games story was atrocious, it's like a horror movie director directed a romantic comedy written by a science fiction script writer based on an action/thriller novel and it was all financed by an independent film studio who thought 10$ was enough to make a blockbuster hit movie that's only 30 minutes long.

  • I will complain simply because this is not the game we were promised. Is it fun? Yes. How is the art? Fantastic, I sometimes stop and look around at some of the stuff they have on the worlds, and just sight see. And there is only one NPC that I had to stop and laugh at (because the shipwright looks like she fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch). I play almost every day, but that does not stop me from getting frustrated. The story in this $60 game is akin to a theatrical trailer. All it really did was make me ask questions about the game. We were promised the ability to customize. Customize our characters, our weapons, ghosts, vehicles, etc. Why do we have slots for multiple ghosts if we can only have 1? When I first saw a dead ghost I thought it would be an item that could be revived later, nope. Just a chance at a grimoire card that I have to look up online. As far as character customization, I am using the armor I have because I HAVE to. It is the only combination of armor I have been able to acquire to get the lvl I have. And as far as shaders go, they are so few that everybody looks alike anyways. Then there is weapon specialization. It doesn't exist. There are a few options to your weapons that can change their function, but that is not how they promised it. We were told our weapons would lvl up with us, gain abilities like our class abilities, and that a weapon we gain early on could become a great asset later on with investment into it. We got none of that. Minus the abilities similar to our class abilities. But then the way the game is nerfed they don't matter. With lvl caps in PvE and no lvl bonuses in PvP there is no point. Bottom line, this is a great demo. Not a great game. At least as a demo I would say, "I can't wait to play this game, I am so glad I spent money on it." Instead I am sitting here thinking, "this is a good fist act, and I can't wait to see where this goes, but the wait is rediculous." Simply, we paid for the server, not the game.

  • I have seen functions in this game that could make it better though. They are just under played by the developer. People have complained about the Queen's event, and how it was fighting the same old bosses. I know at least on mars that if you camp out in one spot and not move, then you will get swarmed by majors and ultras and scores of aliens. Until you move, then they vanish. It shows that there is programming in place for random encounters, altering the enemies that you will encounter on each map. Even shows that with the update for the Queen event they could have added some bosses/mini bosses to hint down that will only trigger if you have the bounty. But they didn't. And I have no reason to play MCC because I have already played those games, and know their stories. And they were well done where you start off with one full story. Then the following installments add to your initial understanding and build upon the created world. Like any other game. My major gripe with this game is that it just feels like we were given a book, with random pages ripped out, and the final chapter blank. But, on a positive note, I know that these guys can tell a good story through their games. I just want it to be worth my money. I like sitting in the tower and listening to what the people say, because part of it is telling you about characters of the game, or even facts within it. I find it interesting, but there is no reason that we should have to hunt down the story of a game we already played through.

  • Yes it's addictive game system because of daily and weekly content but only because there is nothing else to play. That will soon change with CoD and Master Chief

  • It's no different than any other MMO.... You'll hear people screaming about how much the game sucks, how everything is unfair, how the devs don't care or are incompetent... they'll yell every obsenity... they'll tell people to come to X and Y location cuz they're giving away all their stuff because they wont need it anymore because they quit....... Then the next day you'll see them running around town doing quests and acting like nothing happened. Its kinda funny actually.

  • This isn't an MMO so please get off that train. People are upset because there were promises made. Things were shown and then it was all just cut from the game and we've recorded no explanation. If this is an MMO of 3.5 million people, I will only run into maybe 5 different people on patrols on average. MMOs with smaller server sizes I run into more people on a minute by minute basis. Defiance is more MMO than this is.

I didn't pre order this game after GTA5 ' S online debacle. I rented it loved it, I then drove across town to scope a special edition. I think we are at a precipice in gaming, I knew that the communication was going to suffer because, of defiance. With WOW, you had a keyboard not so with console gaming. I love this games graphics and play style. I just hope that they support the game. For instance, I lost 3 awsome fully maxed out guns, wait more than 3 shoot.... I lost grimm citizen too! Gjallahorn, Shadow Price and Prydeths revenge all disappeared from my inventory over night. The response, bungie will not replace lost items. I spent over 170 hours progressing in the game and now that I know my gear isn't supported. Why invest the time? Sure I might help a friend raid, I have some backup guns leveled. But, it's illogical to play a game with no support. Imagine loosing everything not just a few great guns? I have been a fan of Bungie since Marathon in 1997. I sure hope that, Bungie does Agressively Support this game. Starting with supporting the players problems with code and server glitches.

  • I didn't pre order gta5 cause I don't spend the time on those games. I'll play them if I can score it for 20$. If they fix the story I'm happy with what I got. Don't fix my story you don't get my money. Shit if I had gotten the story I was promised I'd have already bought the DLC. I'm not buying because I'm afraid my story got cut up and sold as DLC. And I don't want them to think they can do that to me.

  • I got the special edition. Came with the dlc, had it for defiance too. Personally defiance and hellbug killing was a little too busy. But maybe 24 or 48 per map would be better? One of my fondest memories in Online play was in World of Warcraft. We got maybe one hundred high level players from our faction and "raided" the enemy. We burned and pillaged other human players whilst killing their king and vassals (speaker, stranger). The npc's had real names too; not speaker and stranger. After we downed many human players(guardians) from the other faction and their npc leader we got awsome mounts(sparrow). That is an MMO. I didn't expect that here. I just wanted a beautiful stunning game to play with a group of friends. I got that, Destiny delivers on Beautiful levels and fluid game play except, when it's not working. I thought I would be able to log off and return finding my gear wherever I left it. I hope I can get some support or it's off to the Better Business Bureau.

  • Call it whatever you like... The mechanics may be slightly different but the end result is the same. Think of it as a MiniMO if you want. Rpg's are addictive but nothing to the degree that an MMO is...

  • It's not even a mini MMO. You can try and pigeon hole it into an MMO but until this game even comes close to guild wars 2 content wise then we don't have anything to discuss. You got an fps ala Farcry or Crisis (sandbox type) with some co-op components. They can't support more than 16 in the tower at one time. People have to stop thinking this is some sort of MMO.

It is very much a MinMO.... The 1 and only concept of an MMO that it's missing is the "massively" out of "Massively Multiplayer Online". It has to do this because FPS's are far more intense and lag sensitive. Don't you love how smooth and responsive those controls are? That's because its a MiniMO instead of a full blown MMO. So now that we understand what it is... Lets talk about how MMO's generally work. When you play an MMO that requires huge servers, constant updates, ever expanding content, bug and glitch fixes, balancing, etc etc etc... They generally follow 1 of 2 different payment methods. Either you pay a monthly subscription of $15 per month on top of whatever the game and expansions cost, or you have to deal with an endless supply of Microtransactions using the F2P model. (And usually a lower quality product) Destiny has taken a path similar to Guild Wars in that they only charge you for the game and expansions. But to make up for that we get a little less content, and the expansions come more frequently. Destiny refers to them as "episodes". And for the Record Guild Wars vanilla edition didn't have all that much content either....

  • Ok. So we use your mini MMO definition which is every game on the market with multiplayer. But okay you got me. Vanilla guild wars may not of had all the content it has now but it had 80 levels worth of content. We got 20 levels of content with rehashed content to 29. Plus we got one raid to give us gear to 30. I'm pretty sure guild wars two had a lot more dungeons than we had strikes and they had open world pvp (which wasn't that great). I stopped following guild wars 2 but I remember them doing free content updates every month. Oh did mention they got a complete story with free living world updates as well. Yeah you convinced me. Destiny is a 60$ MMO. /sarcasm

  • As you said... It's Not exactly an MMO.... But it does follow a lot of the same patterns..... You cant judge content by the number of levels you have... Whether you have 20 or 100 means nothing. It's all just a matter of stretching that content. Would you rather have 1000 levels and do a bunch of fetch quests and go kill x number of y mob quests.... That's basicly every MMO out there. And are you really going to claim that Destiny is fail because its not as MMO as a Dedicated MMO? seriously? Lets see Guild Wars add half the Mechanics that Destiny has and still be able to deliver the same content.... kinda doubt it. You have Unrealistic expectations.... You cannot mix 2 things and expect the result to be better at both.... Thats like mixing a race car with a cadillac.... Sure you get a ferrari but its expensive, not as comfortable as the Caddy and not nearly as fast as the race car..... You cant have the best of both worlds, there is always a trade off.

  • You've missed my point because you are too entrenched in what you consider this game to be. That's fine. My expectations were that I would get a great shooter with an awesome story. The touches of MMO drew me in. And I loved the fact that my friends could drop in at anytime. I got a game that is an excellent shooter, with a crappy story where my friends can't just join me. I have to invite them to whatever I'm doing even in the open world. I can't communicate with anyone. I have a game with a bunch of cool systems that were only half thought out. Oh and my friends get rocketed back into orbit before they get pulled back into the game even if I happen to randomly run into them on the moon or Mars of we get lucky enough to be in the same instance. There is no acknowledgement that they are fixing or changing any of it. There are two "expansions" coming before they even have time to correct any of the crap they didn't complete. There's no decent story. If they would communicate and state that they understand and are working on updates to the story to fix it is back off. But no, they want me to buy expansions that will more than likely complete one of the multiple story arcs they opened but never completely fleshed out. Damn, the places they built for this new content look awesome, but I don't think they deserve more of my money. I worked hard for it.

  • I didn't miss anything.... Correction... Your friend CAN join you at anytime provided there is enough space.... I randomly drop in on friends unannounced all the time. I love being able to see what they're doing right from the roster screen. Correction ... there is plenty of acknowledgement that they are fixing changing lots of things. They release a weekly update with planned patches and changes... This one mentions a rather large number of them, many they are keeping secret for the time being but will be implemented before Xmas... A previous update mentioned a rather large patch coming that is still in certification and will be added "soon". Correction... The story is fine there just isn't enough of it. But having played any MMO you'd know the stories in them usually suck and are meaningless anyway.... Still we'll see if they improve on it in the future. As far as Communication and being pulled to orbit well I won't argue that but the game is constantly improving so it's only a matter of time before that gets patched in.

I'm not at home but I'm pretty sure join player is not a selection from the roster screen. I've done it once before but I think I had to bounce out of the game to the dashboard and push my way in. You know, I've read these updates and they mention things in them. But there's no point in hiding it. I'm even tired of MMOs when they do it. If you have an idea express it. I mean they finally did it with iron banner. They are finally discussing with the community in a round about way but I now know what they expect iron banner to be. Where there design goals are going. I'm happy about that. This update wasn't a vague "we are adding some stuff but don't want to tell you yet." At this point communication about their goals for PvE is paramount. Working on fixing the story? Tell me about it. Say we are fixing the story. Each week they should be updating us about progress. At least a "hey guys still not ready to discuss details but we are fixing our jacked up narrative" I'm not saying all MMOs have a solid storyline, though I think biowares The Old Republic would like to have words with you. I apologize if I said no story. But honestly what we got for story was probably already on the box. All the information I have about the story could have been on the back of the box. Traveller brings darkness, world is in chaos with only a city left. Fight darkness. Check. There are some interesting possible plot lines but they start to get you interested and it just disappears from the game. Hey it's Rasputin he's this awesome warmind from the golden age and he's gone. Oh well let's go check out the moon because of the hive seeders they are attacking the earth, but there's a ritual going on and we found a piece of the traveller. Wtf? Are there more? Edit: and I started rambling. But the story finally gains speed by then and the just drops off to a none existent reveal. Ultimately we have learned nothing about the world of destiny except the darkness is doing stuff.

  • It's an option... Click the name on the roster menu and a box should appear. The top option should say "join Fire team" there's also an option to inspect the players gear and a couple others i don't think I've ever used lol. Unless it's somehow different on X1 but I kinda doubt it. When you click thier icon it will display where they are and what they are doing as well. For example one might say "in orbit" and other might say "in the tower" and another might say "playing vault of glass" Instructions for this game are piss poor and nothing is ever explained. The Story is short and goes no-where I wont deny that.... I think Bungie tried to make it "episodic" but just didn't let it go far enough... What is there is decent enough there just wasn't nearly enough of it. I'm sure it will expand over time if you're interested enough and willing to wait that long. I'm sure there might be a few MMO's out there that had great stories but by and large the vast majority are just throw aways.... I played Wow for 2 years and have no clue what the story was about and couldn't name a single charachter... Same could be said for several other MMO's I've played over the years. As fas as bungie being open with everyone about what they're doing... That will never happen and for good reason. Fans take every scrap of information and treat it like gospel. If they release a concept photo that doesn't make it into the game fans will rage that it was cut even tho it may not have ever made it past the brainstorming stage. If they say we're thinking of doing it this way... Fans will interpret that as a promise and if for some reason changes need to be made they'll fight and argue and rage about that too.... it's important for devs to never give away too much info too soon. Gamers have a ridiculous memory.
