• Well, Liquid Snake is my absolute favorite video game villain. He was one of the few bad guys that seemed on par with the player, an enemy that could totally take the protagonist in a fistfight while also being a dangerous, insane mastermind. His motives seem like they're understandable at first - prove that he's better than Solid Snake and carry out his father's dream - but eventually you begin to realize that it's less that he has a discernible goal and more that he's just a sociopathic madman. And that's awesome. Hell, even when he outright dies he technically doesn't die. He's the epitome of a great villain, and no big bad in any video game I've ever played is nearly as memorable as him. The Colossi in Shadow of the Colossus were all extremely fun to fight, but also heartbreaking once you realize they're just animals minding their own business and have no real quarrel with the player. Mechagodzilla in DAMM was a challenging final boss back when I was a kid. It felt great when I finally beat him. Psycho Mantis is the most memorable boss battle ever, in any video game. Master Hand and Crazy Hand were fun to fight against. Devil Hulk and Evolved Abomination were the only enemies in Hulk: Ultimate Destruction that were outright superior to the Hulk himself. There were no environmental gimmicks to use that took off loads of their health, like with the giant robot bosses earlier in the game. No explosives to throw and stagger them, very few health orbs to pick up, and they can tank all of your strongest attacks. It's just you up against a villain bigger, stronger, and tougher than you. You just know you're in for a long, grueling battle. Vaas in Far Cry 3 was both amusing and sinister. He's an absolute psycho, but he's an entertaining psycho. The Alien in Isolation is one of the few enemies that made me feel genuinely threatened. Any other game, it was easy to fight off or escape from any bad guy, but this one learns and adapts to what you do. And it could be anywhere. The thing made Nemesis look like a playground bully.
