This game is not an mmo, not by a long shot. Comparing this to wow is just wrong. Look at the contract between bungie and Activision... It lays out plans for 4 separate destiny titles with 4 large expansions for each title as well as dlc along the way. Mmo's have a base game and add to it as long as the financial demand is there. So after 10 years you can still access that original content. After reading the products section it appears that the subsequent titles will be standalone games ie. you won't be able to access the destiny 1 content playing destiny 2. A comparison to the mass effect trilogy applies better here.

  • Actually there have been a few MMO's that had sequals released. The OP was using WoW as a reference to the fact that before an expansion is released that there are placeholder areas for them in the game, that should not be accessable before the expansion is released. It was a fair way to try and explain why our game as of now has place holders for the first expansion pack in it, but if people notice that they can not access any of the content from the second expansion pack, only the first one. So that should help point out that not everything is in the game that will be released in the future.

  • I may have misinterpreted the op's point referencing wow, I thought he/she was talking about the expansion rollout structure of wow. I was surprised when I read some of the contract because a lot of people (myself included) thought Destiny was going to follow the wow framework where content/expansions/dlc are added to a base game for years to come. It seems when destiny 2 comes out in 2 years we are going to more or less start our progress over? That's disappointing but I hope I'm wrong.

  • I know in some sequals the characters do not trnsfer over but you get bonus stuff for having a save file from the first game, and some games let you transfer your character and all stuff you have on it. If the second Destiny is a follow up on the story then it could be possible to transfer your stuff over, but i highly doubt it since they will want newer players to have a fair chance to play lol.

  • Same here, it really explains a lot. Unfortunately it will most likely get buried under all the negative opinions floating around. Who would actually read a legal document when you can just spit out bs?
