Why you SHOULD consider buying the Destiny DLC.

So by now, most of you have seen some people come onto these forums and make fools of themselves with these wild theories and post their silly "messiah's" video as their only proof to these theories, and I've honestly been having a cakewalk of laughter here in terms of this, and then they attacked me with words, so now it's time to take the gloves off here and punish them with the truth. They cite a video of why you shouldn't buy the DLC, so it's only fitting that you read my post on why you should buy the DLC packs. So let's get to it. First off, that introduction you read there will be the only bashing I do in this post, I'm done with long rant filled posts that usually catch the attention of some people as pure negativity. This post will have absolutely none of that, I'm only going to present the facts, and discuss them and I'll let common sense take over from there. Personally, I would have done better with my own counter-video, but to be honest, most of you I believe are tired of seeing go to 'x' Youtube page, watch, like & subscribe, so no, I don't want you to do that, just give this a good read. :) So most of you have at least seen a few of my posts or have read them, and some of you may not know everything about me. I run my own independent game development company. I have numerous years of programming experience, as well as experience in design and implementation from some small projects I have worked on or with, so you can trust me when I say that I know how games "work" internally. So, let's start with breaking down the most "shot at" point, which is Destiny's currently lacking story. Some of you know, and others don't know, that the lead writer of the story for Destiny left Bungie shortly after the first E3 trip that Bungie took, where they revealed a video of gameplay and talked about some mechanics in the game. Why he left is unknown to us, but what we do know is that during that time, and the time of the alpha/beta, the story as well as numerous game mechanics were changed. This is something that happens all too much in video games, let's not all forget the days of Halo 2 where we had a trailer of an awesome mission, and that wasn't in the final game. Content and mechanics get cut due to all sorts of reasons. Mechanics such as Trading, Gambling, and others were cut from the final product. The reasons, can only be told to you by Bungie, so I cannot provide it to you, just know that they may have been present before, but are gone now. As for the "amount" of story content in the game, this is where some frustration comes into play by people, but you need to also realize that Bungie had to change the story in about a Year's time, so they may have been running out of said time to get everything they wanted done, this is also something that can happen when you have big name titles, so the developer will polish up as much as they can to release to you. This is where the DLC packs enter the picture. How this works is when a game is nearing completion, the team behind the design will start working on the DLC packs for the game, this is how it always works, and sometimes this content may be put on the game's disk as a placeholder or a template to upcoming content (See DestinyTracker for info), in fact, many of you have already found some of this placeholder content, but if you've actually looked carefully, you'll notice it's not done yet. I think the best example I can provide is the upcoming "awesome" new gun Necrochasm, which is a reward for completing Crota's End on Hard. Have a look at this beauty, but if you look closely, you'll see the noted Cursebringer perk has a template icon in it's place, and there is no 3D model present for this gun. This tells us that the concept design and base stats were placed in the game prior to it going gold, but the actual implementation isn't actually done yet, IE: It's being worked on, sound familiar?
People are working on this content right now at Bungie. It's not finished.
Also, if you personally haven't actually explored some of these areas that have been found, please do so, and tell me what you actually find in there. You'll find a lot of glitches, non-working elements, and even placeholder or template art which is obviously not finalized, so again, as DeeJ best said, the content is being worked on. So all of these threads and hate messages about "Disk Locked Content" are not valid my friends, all MMO style games use the tactic of prior implementation to cut on the design work of the developers, IE: They're making it easier to deliver the content to you, sooner. This isn't to scare you, or some corporate bullcrap, these "pre-designed" areas are in place to get the content to you much quicker. WoW uses this tactic for every expansion they make, and that game is still going strong, and the people don't complain about those areas. So, why are you community, doing the same to Bungie, when they're using this tactic to HELP YOU, the player? It just doesn't make sense to me. The last thing I'd like to address here is something very cool, the fact that those are "placeholders" in the DB of the game files tells me that there's definitely a lot of cool new stuff actually coming to the game. I believe fully, that the "leak" or "rumor" of the third subclass and the content of Crota's End from the anonymous tester is 100% true, in fact, if Bungie was dispatching their Ninja's to "delete it or face a ban", then it kind of points to the fact that it's probably true. So people please, chill out. This is a MMO-Style game that is very early in it's life. We need to be helping Bungie give us the experience we want to enjoy here. They don't want to read hundreds of rant posts and hate all day, they want honest feedback to help bring the experience to you. Bungie employees are also Guardians, they want to have the exciting journey that you're taking part in. Don't take in these hate filled videos with silly theories as truth. Unless the information is directly confirmed as truth by means of Bungie telling us that it is, or by means of us actually seeing it for ourselves, it is nothing more than a personal opinion, which is not true information, which is why we finally reach the end of my discussion, and why I think you'd be missing out on an awesome experience to let one 30 minute video ruin what would be a wonderful expansion to your game. Game on Guardians, and I'll see you in Crota's End in December! Edit: My note on the upcoming content part has been clarified ash55, the post/thread was deleted due to it breaking the rules of the forum, genuine leak or not Edit 2: Too Long Didn't Read People who are posting videos on youtube attacking your decision to buy the DLC are not legitimate because there is no solid proof to what they are providing you with, IE: they're lying to you, or pushing an agenda of their own. You should at least consider buying the DLC's due to the cool stuff we've already seen some templates for in the game's database, and finally, the DLC isn't done yet, it's being worked on right now, so these threads and theories suggesting otherwise are wrong. To All: I do appreciate the select individuals who have provided constructive comments, however the most of you are obviously too hooked on negativity to resort to attacks on me and anyone who disagrees with you, which is honestly an attack on your own credibility. Your "Self-Entitlement" behavior will not be tolerated any more in this thread, if you have nothing constructive to provide, don't bother posting as you will simply be ignored. Opinions the other way will be completely ignored without a solid piece of evidence to back up your claim (Posting a youtube video will not be treated as such). Finally, in no way or form am I required to post a video to make my own point, if you're too lazy to read or at least form a reasonable opinion based on facts, then don't bother posting either. Finally, to anyone who thinks attacking my credibility is a good idea, I guarantee you that it will only hurt you when I press that shiny report button for misinformation, I have provided my credentials many times before, so I don't need to do so again.

Or, I could not throw my money at abhorrent business practices and go spend my money on something worthwhile like Halo: the Master Chief Collection and Titanfall (Which is constantly giving REAL Content Updates....FOR FREE)
Since launch Titanfall has added 3 new game-modes, Horde Mode, the Black Market and have at least 2 more game-modes lined up for release with more probably in development. Destiny on the other hand has permanently unlocked a single on disk event and temporarily unlocked 2 more which equate to just more daily chalanges and then had the nerve to Nerf both of said event's rewards and activities based on the complaints of absolutely nobody. And then when people have actual concerns about PvP balance they can't even fix it without destroying all of PVE
• Did you really just make an argument to be a sheep instead of a free thinking individual? Of course Bungie or Activision will not come right out and say what was cut out of the game and why. Just like every other multi-billion dollar company will not disclose their mistakes or strategy. Let's bash the free thinking individuals that are trying to piece together what went wrong.

Nice post, a little blindly positive/ignorant of your surroundings but it is good to see an actual opinion in comparison to a lot of things people have written in feedback the the do not buy the DLC video. The thing is, the game did not have to be released when it did. What we know is that the game's writer left and they drastically changed the story/aspects of the game. Truthfully? I don't mind that. That is game development. BUT it is in times like this that you delay the game. When you have to redo the entire story and change so much, why wouldn't you delay it? Well, they wanted to take advantage of the timing. There is a slew of good games coming out and this game was hyped by everyone and coming out before the others. - They did not communicate with the fans when the writer left: Maybe they did not want to halt the hype, who knows. Knowing they were changing so much might have turned off many people. - They did not take the time to playtest/delay the game so that they could have: If they needed to change so much, take the time you need! Bounties that don't correspond with what is available, Queen's Event, Iron Banner Event, we still get salvage bounties to this day and can't do them. There is so much in this game that seems to have no forethought. Because they did not delay or communicate with the fans what was happening I can only assume that they did not want to lose the money that they would make due to the timing. That type of greed comes to me with no surprise being Activision is involved. I do have faith in Bungie to finish/fix this game and its story, but I am more worried about future games doing things like this. On a side note, third subclass? Didn't they talk about how the third slot would be used for locking in a class? (that is unless they changed that as well) Edit: Oh also, the most important thing of all. You can buy the DLC but please god don't preorder it. Wait for it and see if it is worth the money. Enough of this blind fanboy stuff. If someone makes a bad game don't buy it, if someone makes a bad DLC don't buy it. You can not make that distinction until the actual game comes out.

          • Im so sick and tired of these entitled little crybabies that hop on these forums!!! Are we really at such a place in time and society where we all go to a public place and whine like entitled little crybabies because something didn't go our way?!?! (OP this is NOT directed at you) But here I'll get to my point 1: all of you whiners that are saying bungie locked content and did this and did that woppdy doo!! If you don't like it stop playing the game. All of you that cry and whine are just like the people that complain about the RNG. If you don't like it it's simple stop playing it and rid all of us of the entitled little brats that are butthurt because they didn't get absolutely everything that they wanted!! Did you want a billion dollars and the rights to the BUNGIE corporation as well. 2: I would love to see you all build a game company from the ground make a game and then have 100% satisfaction! I don't believe k have ever heard of and entire base of players being 100% satisfied. 3: The OP is completly spot on with every point he makes, almost every game that resembles destiny has pre made content that isn't finished but is in the final game. Borderlands had the same. 4: everyone spent 60$ if not more on this game. And yes we all have an opinion but I swear some of the posts and replies that some of you make, have me wondering if we really are that stupid. 95% of the posts on these forums are from crybabies that think because they spent x amount of money on a game they DESERVE to be rewarded with something. Last i checked there are tons of games out there that have came out and you payed 60$ for and they were absolute crap. But you still paid 60$ for it. When you go to the movies and spend 10$ on a ticket are you entitled to a movie being a knockout? Or heres a better one WHEN YOU GET LAID ARE YOU ENTITLED FOR IT TO BE GOOD? You people complaining and whining fail to see this game for what it really is. Most of you are upset little kids who can't get a full set of raid gear or can't find a hard mode point to push atheon off the edge because no one cares to help you. Do me a favor all of you naysayers keep crying your tears of rage fuel me and all the gamers that enjoy watching you cringe as we value something we bought. #Destiny #crybabies #feedback

            • Since you wrote an essay on this, I would like to comment on the end of the video that was shown around how content was cut from Destiny and how it is the latest casualty of Activision's greed. No matter what the real truth behind all the theories and conjectures, one thing is for certain, "the mediocrity of Destiny is a direct result of greed and incompetence of people at the top trying to manipulate it in such a way that they could get more for less. This is a common trend that we have been seeing for the last two years in video game releases. Developers are no longer building games that intrigue us because they match the complexity of our human intellect instead through a combination of greed and cunning, the developers and publishers are learning to prey on our worst traits, to appeal to our obsessive need for self-validation and to stoke our ego, to make money off of convincing us that we are special at a game that we don't realize everyone else is just as good at too. They know that we won't recognize that when everyone is special, nobody is. They know that we are gullible and that hype is contagious. If they spend enough money telling us a game is good we will believe it. They have learnt to exploit the purest form of human intellect - our hope, our hope that this next game is the one we have been waiting for, that it will match the enjoyment we felt on halo games, or knights of the old republic, and alas it never does, and in fact the best games these days receive so very little attention. Borderlands - The Pre-Sequel is the weakest entry in the Borderlands franchise, and it is still head and shoulders and cock above this game. People might accuse me of taking video games too seriously, but i would say that they don't take it seriously enough. Gaming, the evolution of this industry, the collective education of we, the gamers, is more important to me than anything other than politics itself. Games are the pinnacle of human creativity, the limitless finale of art, drawing from sound, sight, critical thought, and the immersion of the mind. Gaming itself is threatened by this dastardly trend towards appealing to the lowest common denominator, perpetrated by Activision wholly, yet adopted gradually by everyone else. It is an infection that is spreading rapidly and destroying everything it touches. It has made DESTINY it's latest casualty. And it is not the first time that clever greed and cunning have done this, cable news has been on a similar path to exploiting our weakest traits. This is afterall, a monument to our collective sin. We must take a stand here and now, that for generations from now, that our grandchildren and our grandchildren's grandchildren will recognize that we, the original gaming generation took a stand here and now. That we drew a line in the sand, and said this far, and no further, that we rejected incompetence, that we rejected greed, that we rejected mediocrity. We have to hit them at the only place they will notice, which is through our wallets. Do it now and do it hard, don't buy the coming DESTINY DLC that was supposed to be in the game to start with".

            • I already bought the DLC before reading this post. Hopefully it'll make people want to buy the DLC. If not, then they should go out and just trade in the game, get some cash back, and get another game to play (i.e Borderlands TPS, or the new COD game). Other than that, it's just a game people. You either like it or dislike it and move on.

                  • I don't want to wait and pay extra money ontop of my £50 to complete the story of a single game. A DLC pack should be an actual expansion on the game itself, not part of the story that was cut out and left to finish later on. Gearbox set a great example for additional content in Borderlands 2 where the new DLC stories that were released were stories by themselves, not stories that were cut out of the game. I couldn't give a rats ass if Bungle had to sacrifice on some of the profits they make from this game because the amount of content that has been made available at launch is a joke and the fact that they advertised portions of the game that are going to most likely be paid DLC is a shambles and it is a downright scam from Bungie. Not only that, but the fact that the strikes and missions are essentially going to be exactly the same as every other strike and story mission. Go to door, defend ghost, go past enemies and fight a bullet-sponging boss who is just a bigger version of an enemy in the game that you've already killed 1000 times before. This is extremely lazy level designing. I'm not interested in buying and playing through more of the same crap that I've already got. Once I've got the last few achievements for this game that I'm working on, that'll be it for this game. It's the definition of forced enjoyment and repetitiveness.

But I have gladly prepaid for my DLC and eagerly await their arrival. I've definitely enjoyed the game thus far; $60 is chump change for this much fun.
