Why you SHOULD consider buying the Destiny DLC.

So by now, most of you have seen some people come onto these forums and make fools of themselves with these wild theories and post their silly "messiah's" video as their only proof to these theories, and I've honestly been having a cakewalk of laughter here in terms of this, and then they attacked me with words, so now it's time to take the gloves off here and punish them with the truth. They cite a video of why you shouldn't buy the DLC, so it's only fitting that you read my post on why you should buy the DLC packs. So let's get to it. First off, that introduction you read there will be the only bashing I do in this post, I'm done with long rant filled posts that usually catch the attention of some people as pure negativity. This post will have absolutely none of that, I'm only going to present the facts, and discuss them and I'll let common sense take over from there. Personally, I would have done better with my own counter-video, but to be honest, most of you I believe are tired of seeing go to 'x' Youtube page, watch, like & subscribe, so no, I don't want you to do that, just give this a good read. :) So most of you have at least seen a few of my posts or have read them, and some of you may not know everything about me. I run my own independent game development company. I have numerous years of programming experience, as well as experience in design and implementation from some small projects I have worked on or with, so you can trust me when I say that I know how games "work" internally. So, let's start with breaking down the most "shot at" point, which is Destiny's currently lacking story. Some of you know, and others don't know, that the lead writer of the story for Destiny left Bungie shortly after the first E3 trip that Bungie took, where they revealed a video of gameplay and talked about some mechanics in the game. Why he left is unknown to us, but what we do know is that during that time, and the time of the alpha/beta, the story as well as numerous game mechanics were changed. This is something that happens all too much in video games, let's not all forget the days of Halo 2 where we had a trailer of an awesome mission, and that wasn't in the final game. Content and mechanics get cut due to all sorts of reasons. Mechanics such as Trading, Gambling, and others were cut from the final product. The reasons, can only be told to you by Bungie, so I cannot provide it to you, just know that they may have been present before, but are gone now. As for the "amount" of story content in the game, this is where some frustration comes into play by people, but you need to also realize that Bungie had to change the story in about a Year's time, so they may have been running out of said time to get everything they wanted done, this is also something that can happen when you have big name titles, so the developer will polish up as much as they can to release to you. This is where the DLC packs enter the picture. How this works is when a game is nearing completion, the team behind the design will start working on the DLC packs for the game, this is how it always works, and sometimes this content may be put on the game's disk as a placeholder or a template to upcoming content (See DestinyTracker for info), in fact, many of you have already found some of this placeholder content, but if you've actually looked carefully, you'll notice it's not done yet. I think the best example I can provide is the upcoming "awesome" new gun Necrochasm, which is a reward for completing Crota's End on Hard. Have a look at this beauty, but if you look closely, you'll see the noted Cursebringer perk has a template icon in it's place, and there is no 3D model present for this gun. This tells us that the concept design and base stats were placed in the game prior to it going gold, but the actual implementation isn't actually done yet, IE: It's being worked on, sound familiar?
People are working on this content right now at Bungie. It's not finished.
Also, if you personally haven't actually explored some of these areas that have been found, please do so, and tell me what you actually find in there. You'll find a lot of glitches, non-working elements, and even placeholder or template art which is obviously not finalized, so again, as DeeJ best said, the content is being worked on. So all of these threads and hate messages about "Disk Locked Content" are not valid my friends, all MMO style games use the tactic of prior implementation to cut on the design work of the developers, IE: They're making it easier to deliver the content to you, sooner. This isn't to scare you, or some corporate bullcrap, these "pre-designed" areas are in place to get the content to you much quicker. WoW uses this tactic for every expansion they make, and that game is still going strong, and the people don't complain about those areas. So, why are you community, doing the same to Bungie, when they're using this tactic to HELP YOU, the player? It just doesn't make sense to me. The last thing I'd like to address here is something very cool, the fact that those are "placeholders" in the DB of the game files tells me that there's definitely a lot of cool new stuff actually coming to the game. I believe fully, that the "leak" or "rumor" of the third subclass and the content of Crota's End from the anonymous tester is 100% true, in fact, if Bungie was dispatching their Ninja's to "delete it or face a ban", then it kind of points to the fact that it's probably true. So people please, chill out. This is a MMO-Style game that is very early in it's life. We need to be helping Bungie give us the experience we want to enjoy here. They don't want to read hundreds of rant posts and hate all day, they want honest feedback to help bring the experience to you. Bungie employees are also Guardians, they want to have the exciting journey that you're taking part in. Don't take in these hate filled videos with silly theories as truth. Unless the information is directly confirmed as truth by means of Bungie telling us that it is, or by means of us actually seeing it for ourselves, it is nothing more than a personal opinion, which is not true information, which is why we finally reach the end of my discussion, and why I think you'd be missing out on an awesome experience to let one 30 minute video ruin what would be a wonderful expansion to your game. Game on Guardians, and I'll see you in Crota's End in December! Edit: My note on the upcoming content part has been clarified ash55, the post/thread was deleted due to it breaking the rules of the forum, genuine leak or not Edit 2: Too Long Didn't Read People who are posting videos on youtube attacking your decision to buy the DLC are not legitimate because there is no solid proof to what they are providing you with, IE: they're lying to you, or pushing an agenda of their own. You should at least consider buying the DLC's due to the cool stuff we've already seen some templates for in the game's database, and finally, the DLC isn't done yet, it's being worked on right now, so these threads and theories suggesting otherwise are wrong. To All: I do appreciate the select individuals who have provided constructive comments, however the most of you are obviously too hooked on negativity to resort to attacks on me and anyone who disagrees with you, which is honestly an attack on your own credibility. Your "Self-Entitlement" behavior will not be tolerated any more in this thread, if you have nothing constructive to provide, don't bother posting as you will simply be ignored. Opinions the other way will be completely ignored without a solid piece of evidence to back up your claim (Posting a youtube video will not be treated as such). Finally, in no way or form am I required to post a video to make my own point, if you're too lazy to read or at least form a reasonable opinion based on facts, then don't bother posting either. Finally, to anyone who thinks attacking my credibility is a good idea, I guarantee you that it will only hurt you when I press that shiny report button for misinformation, I have provided my credentials many times before, so I don't need to do so again.

  • For me, the raid is the best content in the game. If there's another raid in the next DLC, I'm buying.

  • Finally, someone that doesn't spew anti-business/corporate garbage. It's not a conspiracy, people seriously need to stop with the whole "corporate commander coming to steal your money" scheme. It's alarmist rubbish. This man knows what it's like to run a business.

  • I agree with you, lot of videogames cut content along its development, I remember Bioshock Infinite E3's demo, some years ago. I have played hundred hours Destiny, it's worth every cent and DLC's don't scare me. But I dislike the laziness and cheapness of some design decisions in Destiny: Queen's event, blatant mistakes in guns balancing, the randomness mess, lack of content that leads to obnoxious drop rates, grimoire in a website, few multiplayer maps, etc, etc, etc. And this worries me a lot.

  • To be frank, there is no evidence that the story was even changed. People are currently playing the prologue and chapter one. "Oh but the crow!?" House of Wolves follows the Queen of the Reef, her brother already looks like a two faced prick. The fact is, most trailers and preview content is never shown in the correct order. Only key things to pique your curiosity. Especially in a studio with teams working on content with an asset pipe. Whatever portions are partially complete or displayable are shown off, because it's all they have. E3 is hell for teams and a lot of them hate that time of year. It's a distraction and disruptive to work flow.

Why? Because it's more stuff and I want more stuff to do. And it's cost is peanuts compared to the number of hours enjoyment I will get from it. I CGAF that someone is getting rich off it. I would be doing exactly the same thing if it was my company and so would 99% of people. The other 1% are stupid or lying.

This was a good read, but it didn't really say much about your topic. "Why should I buy the DLC"
I have the season pass anyways, but if you are trying to convince others to buy it, put out some good arguments as to why you should buy it directly, that's what people want.
• Because 4 story missions is so much content, considering how the current missions are. 2 Strikes, cool, now I have seven strikes instead of 5 to repeat over and over again. 1 new raid, okay, that should be fun, until it takes me 3 weeks to get the gear and be done with it. 5 new crucible maps? Why don't you just put a shotgun to my head, why are we getting more crucible maps when all the crucible players will be on Halo 2: Anniversary and CoD Advanced Reskinning.

"messiahs"? A few people on youtube made very good and valid points, in regard to why this game is sub-par. I can't name a single one of those youtubers, but I sure do agree with some of their views on how this game has turned out. Yes, I'm referring to the initial content, not including future DLCs. If you're content with what Destiny has to offer, and if you're content with Activision's decision to move content over to DLC, good for you! But like another poster already stated, you're allowing the developers to walk all over you. It's people like you who are indirectly leading to uninspired game franchises like Call of Duty and Ea's sports games being churned out every year, instead of these capitalistic developers actually taking the time to make quality games.

      • I don't know why people still defend this shit. The game is awesome and fun but it's clearly been cut down and broken up. Shit is missing from the E3, and many other parts are gone. Factions are missing, the story makes little sense, you get no idea of what is actually going on. I get it's a great game but come on. Are you so blind that you can't see you're being bent over without lube? I want the DLC pretty badly but I'm going to try to keep from buying simply because I don't like what's happened with how the game was developed. Something very wrong happened and they refuse to tell us.

        • As you notice from my Titan stats, I hardly, ever play anymore, spite I just got that sweet Mida-tool scout rifle, I dont play the game at all because it is a utter hollow SHELL, of what the game was supposed to be like. They advertised, promised, showed videos, had developer say in alot of things the game was supposed to be, and instead, we got this. No amount of DLC locked on disc or otherwise coming, is gonna make the game how it was supposed to be like. Too late for me though, I spent about 600 dollars in total for Destiny, and I wont be getting that money back. Least the White PS4 is nice. But in all honesty, Bungie severely disappointed me, and Activision is partly to blame, but they do not get full blame. Now I only ever come on if my clan or friends, who now, hardly plays the game at all, needs me for a raid since I am the most precise shot they know, and they're best player. Course, I have certain advantages that had to be payed for which allows me to be so, that most people dont know about. But at this point, could care less about getting 30, never gonna get to the end of VoG hard mode because all the people I played with, has quit, or barely plays now, and I dont really feel like finding another clan or group of players to do VoG hard and complete it, which sucks cuz alot of people who did VoG hard, used exploits, and didnt deserve they're wins. Probably why Mythoclaust got nerfed to hell without a friggen thought and now they gotta rebalance the damn thing again cuz they nerfed it too much. Bungie, you have failed this gaming community.

          • I already have decided to buy it. I makes sense to me. I am not really concerned with any type of on disc content. I look at the 35$ extending my games life and not having to spend 60$ on a new one. I will get master chief collection but I will most likely pass on getting sunset like I passed on horizon 2. Both awesome games , but I want to keep playing Destiny.

            • Ok, I'd like to first thank you for taking the time to right for the most part a very valid and good counter to the "hate" the is going around. I would also like to say that this is currently the only game I'm playing, I have Borderlands: TPS, as I'm a fan of the series, but have yet to play it. As for your credential, I trust that you wouldn't make this post if you were not who you say you are and I'm very happy that you provided us with your opinion as everyone's opinion matters, not just your's, mine or someone who made a video. For games that I get excited for Borderlands 2, COD (until Ghosts), Battlefield, Diablo III, etc. I tend to buy the version of the game that has the 1st expansion or even the "season pass" for a game as I think more highly of it then what it sometimes turns out to be. Yes on some games I feel I wasted my money, but I've made it up on others. So here is what I think of Destiny, I enjoy it...having said that it has a lot it needs to do if it wants to have that "lasting effect". I'm not on either side, I'm not going to speak for a million dollar company, they don't need me to back them up or back them on something that in my heart of hearts isn't what I was expecting. I also don't need idea's good/bad from random people constantly shoved down my throat, I would say their are a lot of mature people playing Destiny of all ages and gender and we all need to make up our own mind on what we feel and what Destiny means to us. I already have the 1st two DLC's as I got the Limited Edition and yes I will be playing them, but they really need to step up their game for me to stick around long term. I play because I enjoy it, but just like if you love pizza, if you eat it everyday eventually it gets old and you want something else or are even sick of it all together. My hope, is that Bungie comes out with some great DLC and some epic story/strikes/raids/pvp gametypes. I want to see them succeed, as if they do that means I get a great game and in the end that's all I've ever wanted, was a good game, a game that I can play for the next 10+ years as that is what it felt like before launch. I'm not speaking for the hate train or the Bungie loyalist's, I'm speaking as a gamer that just want's a great game. It's not there yet, but it sure does show a lot of promise...only time will tell and I truly like to see everyone and anyone's opinion on Destiny as that is the only way we as gamer's can actually make an impact. Thanks for the post and the good read!

              • I wonder how many people don't have the attention span to read 3 minutes of text? Anyways I completely agree with you. Anybody telling you to skip on buying something is simply pushing their own agenda. If you want the DLC. BUY IT. You're going to be completely pissed off at the game if you skip out on it and see everyone enjoying the new content whether it's what you expected or not, especially if you continue to play the game. I'm getting the expansion pass as I've already put so much time into the game in less than two months and am enjoying it, and I definitely see myself playing this game for quite a long time.

TLDR

                  • I already bought it. I have faith that this game will become what was promised. The fact that everyone is on the forums posting negativity and still playing the game shows that they enjoy the game enough to continue playing but really enjoy complaining. If you really hated the game as much as you say you do, then you wouldn't be on the forums and still playing the game. Grow up, be constructive, and understand that nothing is ever set in stone. People make mistakes. Spending your money doesn't guarantee you happiness from whatever you spend it on. I'll be here for the journey we were promised.
