nothing makes sense. Like how are there ancient civilizations on Venus that predate date earth by billions of years (according to dinklebot on one of the missions)? How? How could it when it was a fire ball until the traveler terraformed it?
Best thing to do is stop looking for a story and just shoot people until you are bored. the end.

The Vex are machines, and the ruins on Venus were created by them. They wouldn't be bothered by things like heat or toxic atmosphere.

Most likely, they've 'seeded' systems throughout the universe with machines like the Nexus, and only activate them once they arrive in a given system. Which is what happened during the Collapse, and is why we are told that they would've turned every planet into a machine if the Traveler hadn't stopped them.
