Ive wondered the same thing. Regular 2014 humans could wreck these guys. There is no way the could have lost unless the darkness is some unkillable space juice that just makes people randomly die. Also one guardian can take out half an army and a ship. There never is any back up coming from the tower. They just throw three, at most, guardians at a field and they wipe out everything.

  • Darkness is eternal and consums whatever it touches taking control. That's why xurs will is not his own. The traveler used its lighr to push back the darkness leaving the husks of its army to fend for themselves. Thats why they seem broken, because they don't have the unifying darkness to tell them what to do. They built that shrine to comune with the darkness but we broke it.

  • Regular 2014 humans would not "wreck" these guys... If the vex can turn planets into machines in a couple of days there is no way current human tech could compete. We don't even have armed space vehicles for fecks sake! All an alien race would have to do to destroy the ENTIRE human race is to sit in orbit and lob spacenukes at us. There is also zero mention of how big these alien civilizations are. For all we know they could be spread over hundreds or thousands of worlds. If that is the case it doesn't matter that they are easy to kill, we'd run out of bullets before they ran out of soldiers.

  • I never saw any indication of space nukes in the game, but I can guarantee we can deliver earth nukes to orbit in 2014.

  • They do have space craft though and you do not need "nukes from space". Just taking a asteroid and hitting the planet with it would be worse then any nuke. If you long range space flight... getting a massive rock and hitting the planet is not hard and is just as if not more effective if you do not care about the damage you cause.

  • Who says they are even capable of moving an asteroid into the Earth's atmosphere? Did you just make that up?

  • Once again there is no indication that any of the species in the game are capable of guiding asteroids into planets.

  • Are you guys really that stupid.. if you have interstellar space flight you can move a asteroid. there is no friction in space. Its a matter of slapping engines on it and guiding to a location. You also do not need a weapon with any explosives/nuke or anything else that will explode. Kinetic energy from just a slab of metal fired from space and using earths own gravity as a accelerator would be enough to level city's.

  • I do not see any indication of long range high powered weapons like nukes in the hands of those alien races. I would like to see how long a fleet of those things lasts against a ICBM. Dude if a tower of 12 can defend themselves I think a few billion regular people can drive them off. And what makes you think we can't deliver nuclear weapons to space? With a global common enemy the earth can have multiple new launch sites in a week. You underestimate our current technology, and what we could do when impending doom throws budgets out the window.

  • Well, we know they have interstellar travel, energy weapons and that the vex can travel across galaxies instantaneously. I don't think spacenukes are beyond the realm of possibility... It would more likely be some form of plasma/energy bombardment. In which case all our nukes couldn't save us.

I'll give you the vex. As crazy overpowered as they are there shouldn't be anything left in the solar system. The fact that they have interstellar travel does mean they have some crazy shit, but they haven't put it to good use since the guardians arrived. Maybe they choose not to use weapons of mass destruction. Bungie hasn't shown or indicated the fallen or hive have any huge weapons like that. If they did couldn't they just wipe out the tower in seconds? It's not hard to find. But Im still saying we could effectively defend earth from the fallen and hive in 2014 and and whatever time the fallen arrived. Especially since we acquired the technology for relatively easy interplabetary travel before the fallen showed up. We'd had to be had stacked as shit in the weapons department.

  • There are many, many things in the game that doesn't make sense. I agree that the aliens seem ridiculously incompetent - but it's clearly a game mechanic. It wouldn't be any fun to fight the last battle in Reach over and over... even though i have. It also helps to remember that according to Destiny we DID lose the war - even with all our future, golden-age tech and with the help of the Traveler and loads more guardians, we lost. If future us with all the spacemagic couldn't win, how could 2014 humans?

  • I'm gonna go with PIS or plot induced stupidity. We probably lost just because they say we did. I could see how we (2014 humans) couldn't stand a chance against the covenant. They had multiple planet invading fleets and tanks(other shit like that and lots of it) and multiple planetary species working together. The fallen and hive? That's a little of a stretch to me. Bungie just needs to show something to make us fear or hate the aliens in this game. Right now they just look like target practice for guardians. 3 guardians invading a planet, taking out their orbital communication jammers, and smashing through their army makes them look weak as fizuck.

  • But they don't do it. Air support is next to non-existent in any army and orbital support IS non-existent. They don't use it on the Last City, they don't use it on each other when they're clearly at war with one another, and they don't use it on us when we're in the field. It's all almost exclusively infantry combat with the occasional drop ship that appears for a few seconds to drop guys off, sporadic tank appearances, and light vehicles that appear once in a blue moon. Modern day ground forces could easily contend with we've been shown and could complete any of the strike missions. Also, modern day soldiers wouldn't release the archon priest to kill him, we'd just strap a shit ton of C4 to his prison box and blow his ass up inside.
