Nope. Doesn't make sense. Plenty of other games out there with open world pvp. Don't need any of that here. Breaks lore, gets annoying to people on planet farming bounties, patrol missions, and planet resources. Guardians have enough enemies out there when out on patrol, they don't need to start killing each other.

  • Yep that's kinda how I feel and why I don't play PvP I have no desire to kill other Guardians and then turnaround a few minutes later to work with them on a Strike or PE to bring down bad guys ...

  • The speaker could always look the other way to minor skirmishes. My idea however instead of having a zone, when selecting a patrol mission you can choose to enable pvp this way our open world fun won't conflict with yours. It would also be tied to factions based on your highest leveled faction.

You clearly don't know anything about the lore. Read the faction grimoire card. As the city was being formed factions were constantly battling each other. Finally the governmental structure was formed and we were left with the four that are in the city now. I understand why it should be distinct from patrol, but I'm friggin' sick of pvp on the same maps over and over again. If nothing else there should be a pvp world to introduce diversity.

  • Oh, I know the lore. Also, there are plenty more factions in the city, just those 3 are present on the tower. When the factions were actively at war the city was in total chaos and the Vanguards and Speaker worked hard to broker a peace. They wouldn't allow them to have open conflict in the field as it would quickly degenerate to conflict within the city walls again and would thus boot any factions involved from the tower and council. Not too mention it would show disunity openly infront of the cities enemies. You don't go to war with someone who at the end of the day you both come back and sleep in the same home. A house divided against itself cannot stand. So stfu, I know the lore and open world pvp doesn't make sense according to it. If they added another side that worked for the darkness or openly worked against the city we could play as then I wouldn't be opposed to it. As is, no.

You trust the speaker too much. The traveler reincarnates people without their consent and enlists them in a fight they know little about. The cards talk about a guardian being denied presence in the light after death. Once we learn the true motives of the speaker and the traveler, conflict between the factions is inevitable; whether or not we get a pvp world.

  • And until that happens, open world pvp won't make sense. My saying that the council wouldn't allow infighting between guardians while out in the field doesn't mean I trust the speaker either. If you're summoning an army of undead super soldiers to do your bidding through deception you don't just let your army become divided and splinter off into smaller, weaker warring parties.

  • So how do you prevent that from happening once they find out? The traveler doesn't appear to be using mind control on the Guardians, especially when there are already factions that disagree with one another- and Dead Orbit which really wants nothing to do with earth-centric warfare. All of your arguments are removing the factions ability to choose for themselves. All it takes is one faction to decide they think anyone fighting for the Traveler is fighting for a form of darkness to cause a civil war to break out. FWC is basically a team of anti-heroes that would have no problem fighting other factions if it meant means to an end. The New Monarchy is more interested in government than saving the traveler The ghost fragments discuss the potential for corruption and maybe corruption of a Guardian occurs when it would most benefit the traveler. regardless it does not take one side becoming "dark" for it to decide to attack another. The current political situation stems between the relationship between the city consensus and the speaker. When you already have 3 factions with 3 different interests, there is no city "consensus," and the only faction that has expressed any interest in maintaining it is the New Monarchy. Factions attacking each other not only fits perfectly in the canon of the universe, it has already been justified in the little we actually know for certain about the universe. Also, I love how this started about a discussion on game mechanics and turned into one about the story.

  • They still choose for themselves. They choose to be a part of the counsel to increase their influence in the city and have sway in the city's policies. They choose to keep a presence on the tower to recruit guardians to their cause and post missions to gather resources for them. Pursuing their ideals does not directly run counter to that of the other factions, while they all share common enemies in the armies of "darkness." They have no real reason to be enemies except in struggle for influence in the city, and much to gain by working together when already outnumbered probably billions to 1. Also, I never said it has to be a darkness faction for players be part of to have open world pvp. I said darkness OR a faction that openly works against the city. If tomorrow Dead Orbit was all like "-blam!- you guys, we don't need you. We're gonna build a space station by Venus and work on building a fleet on our own, even if it means pirating and stealing your ships!" I'd be willing to accept open world pvp. As it stands, with the factions behaving as they are open world pvp makes no sense. But as soon as Bungie throws out some massively story influencing content updates and makes it possible for players to take up arms for a faction working against the speaker/traveller/city it's fair game to me.

  • Sounds good. Now I just hope they do that and keep it so the plot doesn't revolve around that idea.

  • "Tim! Jerry here says you murdered him while he was doing recon out in the dunes of Mars." "It was an accident. His purple shader made his warlock ass look like a psion, I swear." "Tim, his ghost says you then proceeded to, what was that word you used again?" "Teabag." "Right, teabag his corpse." "Pft, who you gonna believe? Me or some glorified door opener?" "He recorded the whole thing." "Photoshop man, photoshop." "And you posted a selfie of you slamming his face, which is missing the back half of his skull, into your crotch on guardianbook." "...he hacked my account?" *sigh* "Tim, this is the third time today and it's only 3 am... I'm afraid I can't let it slide this time." "Aw, come on speaker, don't be like that." "No Tim, no. I'm gonna have to punish you to the full extent of the law... for fratricide by the cold blooded murder of your fellow guardian, and shameful display of human behavior by desecrating his corpse, you lose 100 vanguard rep." "Nooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!"

  • Exactly. I don't want to be happily farming Spirit Bloom and suddenly start taking sniper fire from some 12-year-old who's 300 yards out and giggling his little ass off... Doesn't sound fun in any way.
