You assume that RNG means "purely random". This is not always accurate. For example, in Diablo 3 they instituted a "pity timer". It ups your chances of getting a Legendary item based on how long it has been since your last drop. We have no idea what kind of parameters are in place in the RNG of Destiny to feed high level players with gear. Among the group of people I play with, none of us have gotten shafted. Perhaps I haven't gotten every gun I'd like to see but I've gotten a pretty decent amount of Legendaries and Exotics. There might be guns in the game that I never get. I played Borderlands 2 for a combined total across all characters over the course of about a year and a half of about 41 days. I still have never gotten a Shreddifier Assault Rifle. I'm not bitter about it either. That's just the way RNG systems work. If you don't have the time to grind, you aren't going to get everything you want. Other than a few edge cases, I haven't seen any strong evidence that there is really anything wrong with the RNG system this game employs. Perhaps it could be tweaked a little, but I don't see where it fails so spectacularly that you need a direct path to the gear you have your eye on.

  • According to Bungie this is not an MMO like borderlands is. This is a shared world shooter....lol, sure it is. The arrogance of bungie is laughable. trying to be the best at many genres but falling in all is the tone of this game. RNG is bad because 1. this is not suppose to be an MMO therefore no true reason to grind. 2. paying $90 dollars for a game( game + expansion) and NOT be able to get access to all the content especially the content I want! it is not a good consumer experience. 3. spending 200 hrs of your life in a game trying to get lucky is down right sad, that would be like a going to the park with you friends and picking numbers out of the bag to see if can swing on the swings, play baseball or any other fun event. If you luck out you have to wait till next week to see if you can play. can you imagine that, kids waiting to get lucky to have fun. that is wrong on so many levels. it is un-healthy and just disturbing. but that is what RNG boils down to. games are not meant to be gambles, but rather a time to have fun. There is more to life then spending countless hours replaying the same 6 hours of content that will eventually turn your brain to mush. Bungie has just turned gaming into a casino, but charging you full price upfront. At least at the casino you can leverage your own bet, Bungie made us go all in and still pull the slots, maybe not ever getting what we paid for.

  • your case is fairly rare, and im not asking to get every gun in the game, not even one in particular, but i looked at my play time in destiny over the last few weeks, close to 9 hours, and in those weeks i havent gotten a single exotic, or a new peace of raid gear, and not for lack of trying either.

  • Wasn't the shredifier the rarest gun in that game? There was no specific boss that dropped it.

  • It became part of the loot pools of Raid bosses like Pyro Pete, but that was after those DLC packs released. Prior to that, it was a part of no bosses' loot table. It was a purely random drop. I have a friend that got one and I have had several people offer to dupe me one, but I didn't want to ruin the drop for myself if I ever got one. I never once got on Gearbox's forums to complain that my friend got one and I didn't, nor did I ask for them to make it part of a bosses' loot tables, despite the fact that no other weapon in the game would've complimented my playstyle as well as that one.

  • I got most of the Legendaries. I did get all the Pearlescents. Those were actually pretty easy to come by for some reason, unlike Borderlands 1 where I still haven't seen even one.

  • Yeah I had to go days of playing straight to get one in bl1. Crawmie -blam!-ing hates me though. Also is easie if you know the mission exploit in bl2 where this stupid loot midget keep poping out of chest, with insanely high chance yield of pearlescent upon its death. Good times, goooood times.

You can get 4 (or is it 5?) Loot Midgets in a row at the Wildlife Preserve if you have the mission from Tanis active.

  • Okay lets hypothesize that they have a timer installed that will raise your chances of a purple being dropped. Regardless, who's to say it won't always be a gun, ship, sparrow, or shader? For those that have all these, all they want is armor. Unfortunately theres still a very low chance of that happening.

I still don't see why you players must have a direct route to the gear they want. As far as I can tell, and I'm not trying to be inflammatory here, it seems to be that no one wants to wait.

  • Direct way to get things =/= being impatient and wanting it now. It means that we want a clear path to get the things that we actuall want, not random shit that we have not a single need for.

  • I'm not up in arms about this. I'll live. Its just frustrating to see a friend receive all the armor in a hard and normal raid on the same day while I'm stuck here being left behind.

And you could get all of it next week. The RNG in this game is not that restrictive. The items are not so rare that you will never get them. The VoG has its' own unique drop tables for this very reason. Also, why does everyone care so badly about whether they hit level 30? I'm level 29 with one piece of Raid gear and they couldn't pay me real world currency to wear the Vex Titan helmet so level 30 isn't happening. All level 30 does for you is let you do the Hard Raid at max efficiency. Big whoop. The other 99% of the game doesn't require it in the slightest. I'm just saying that I don't think it's very likely Bungie will ever change it. Everything about this game is designed to stretch the content they have as long as possible and neither myself, nor anyone I know, finds the RNG to be so stingy that it warrants a big change to how we get gear.

  • I'm sorry you're so passionate about this. When I started playing I had the goal to hit 30 set in my mind. Please, please, forgive me for setting a goal for myself in the game

  • Well if you want to get salty then I'm moving on. If this conversation was happening 3 months down the line and you still hadn't gotten any new Raid gear, then I'd say it might be time to look into this. From where I'm sitting, the lot of you seem to be simply impatient.

  • you're entire argument is based entirely on your experience, and alot of other people's experience would suggest that there is in fact a problem, reality is people SHOULD want to be level 30, its the highest level in the game, its an tangible goal, the only tangible goal at this point, and its left to RNG, which means its statistically possible i could play this game every hour of my life for the next two years, and never get another piece of raid gear, at all.

  • 1: They haven't said that such a feature exists 2: I've seen some people get 3 purples and a yellow in one go, and all I got was a single green. I've also seen AFKers get many exotics. 3: You are assuming that such a thing is even in game with no evdience supporting it. You put faith in Bungie, which is imo a bad idea. 4: A few? I've seen and heard a more than just a few (Like For instance for me receiving the same exotic bounties 8 times in a row, only seeing two lengedaries in the wild (and never an exotic) engram), and even while doing good, receiving nothing, while a AFKer gets The Last word, that those are just a few instances of RNG -blam!-ing me alone over). Do you have an actual reason to why RNG isn't bad, other than "Well, it's not that bad", or why my idea wouldn't be better?

  • I am not assuming anything at all. I was actually pointing out that since you don't know anything about the RNG system in the game, you are likely making huge assumptions.

  • Everyone makes assumptions about everything in the natural world. However, you have no basis on which to say such a thing. They have not once said anything of such that says that they have a timer; not once. Therefore, how can you assume such is real. That's like saying that something supernatural is real, when there's not a single basis to say such. Also, I do know one thing about RNG: It's as the name implies, random.
