Before I get started, I want to be clear that I'm NOT directly endorsing the design of PvP loot rewards, merely providing what I think is Bungie's logic and because it is CLEARLY a mechanic that's still bothering people. I honestly think they have PvP gear rewards totally random as a bit of a social experiment because what it does do (aside from piss people the -blam!- off) is:
1. Reward anyone, regardless of skill level, for trying out PvP. Carrot meet stick...*nom nom nom*.
2. Attempt to eliminate tryhard multiplayer arguing over kill steals, KD reps, and all that dumb internet epeen measuring.
3. Attempts to make the focus of the gameplay the most interesting thing about the experience. Not just a means to a reward.
This is why the dude that went 2 / 25 will get a shiny Exotic despite your dominant 30 / 10 massacre. Winning is rewarded via Marks and Rep, NOT loot drops in the current system.
EDIT: I've been silent about a lot of the blatantly hostile misogyny and insults but trust that it's being reported. You ARE responsible for your actions and if you don't like this thread, you're not obligated to post in it. Insulting myself and others is a flagrant violation of the user agreement and code of conduct for the site.

Plot twist: OP is a dude.

White/Heterosexual/Male/Married/Father/Christian/Libertarian Gamer here: Did I miss any irrelevant descriptors? Trying to seek the most attention possible.

And you had to say you are a girl because??? Makes no sense

Edited by Ghoffman9: 10/25/2014 1:38:27 AMNothing about that is inherently sexist or Misogynistic about it Saboteur6. Trolls don't give a crap on who their target is, be they male, female, black, white, Christian , Jewish, Homosexual, Straight. It does not matter, all they care about is getting a negative reaction out of you. They use insults specific to you that you might be sensitive about that would result in a negative reaction, that is what trolls do. Taking that and trying to put a misogyny label on it is not valid, so keep your Feminist beliefs to a minimum if you please. Not every woman out there tries to make victims out of themselves and their gender for every little thing out there. Those women I can respect. I get insults thrown at me on Xbox Live on daily basis, don't see me yelling Misandry about it now do you? (Ironically Misandry isn't a recognized word in most spell checking programs, but misogyny sure is.) Trolls will be trolls, if you cannot handle it then you should not be on the internet in the first place.
-
Regarding any misogyny, consider your composition. If I were to speak to a predominantly female audience and assert my position beginning with "I'm a man; let me explain this concept to you," the reaction would be expectedly negative. (Insert "duh" here) Misogyny has no place on this forum and those posters should be rightly handled by the moderators, but your sex/gender has nothing to do with the content of your message. I wholly expect to be accused of victim shaming, but it's my opinion that your "girl gamer" is either a troll for that very negativity you claim to deplore, or an example of someone seeking attention in general.

Great post OP. I don't understand the controversy myself but it is nice to read sensible posts on the issue.
-
Good thread but above all, tons of kudos for the edit section and your mature approach.
-
I have no problem with drops being tied to a private loot table/RNG system. I think you have perceptively pointed out the advantages of that design decision.
-
To your second point I think every FPS games needs to do what BF does "assist counts as kill" if you do above %90 of the damage you basically killed them.
-
girl gamers are OP. i think they should all get the fist of havoc in an effort to NERF them.
-
The entire loot system needs an overall. But on the crucible issue, increase the amount of marks and rep for the guys at the top. It won't take the sting off watching the worst player on the team bag an exotic but it will provide some incentive for those that are reward motivated.
-
Some good points here but the system can still be exploited by people who just idle game to game in order to play the odds at getting something. I get that the rewards are random, but where is the incentive to play well if that's the case?
-
If they rewarded only the best people in the game(Highest K/D, or top 3, etc...) people would continually try to boost, or camp hardcore in order to be at the top of the leaderboard.
-
Gamers... Ask yourself. # 1 Do I play PvP to best the other team and/or opponents (FFA) to win the match? # 2 Do I play for a random chance to get some loot? If the answer is # 2...then you are doing it wrong. OP... Once players realize that the real award for a PvP match is the actual "winning" of the match...
-
Who's Burly?
-
Why not have the Winning Team have a significantly higher chance of obtaining better rewards?

Lol@topicname!
-
You crack me up. Good stuff. Wait...you're saying I should play a game for the sake of playing a game? Nah...can't do that. ;.)
-
Yes that is why but the effect is that it will eventually drive away all competitive PvPers as there is nothing for them to work towards as it's all RNG. Give us static teams with ranks and loot rewards based on ranks!
-
I agree that Bungie have implemented their loot system for the reasons you stated. The problem is, Bungie did not realise the implications of having such a system in real gameplay. What this system does is give people the perception (whether it's true or false) that lack of skill or bad play is REWARDED. That is the whole reason why the loot cave phenomenon appeared, and why people just afk in the Crucible. If loot drops are completely random, why should anyone make the effort? In my opinion, Bungie's loot system has been a big fail, one of the most contentious issues around Destiny. They should just scrap it and use the loot systems in Diablo or Borderlands, which while are not perfect, are a million times better than the loot system in this game.
-
Really though, I like the fact that even if I did bad in a game I still have a chance to get something good for all the time I spent in the Crucible. I'm not horrible at Crucible but i'm not amazing either. (Invective made me a little better though) Anytime I am in the Crucible, I'm doing it because I have an exotic bounty or I was a few hundred off after doing vanguard missions for leveling DO. I find it a chore most of the time, you know, until I'm on a role then it's the best thing ever!
