On Community Feedback

Hey, there. I'd like to see if we can create a sense of understanding about something. I see a lot of threads on this forum that say things like "Please read this, DEEJ!" or "I hope Bungie sees this!" We read all of this feedback. More people than you would suspect look in on the forum here and in places all over the Internet where players talk about Destiny. We take it in. We measure it against data we have on our end. We triage it against our own wish lists. We plan our work based on the people we have on our team and the hours we have in any given work day. We choose our battles on the development floor the same way you do when you look at your Director. "What can I accomplish next to get better?" is the essential question. There is a process in place to support Destiny. You, constant reader, are a part of that process. Your voice is, by my proxy, a part of the conversation - even when it makes the meeting to which I've been invited a little contentious. I do not post in every thread that appears on this forum because I don't assume you'll settle for being placated with a stock "We hear you!" every time one of you has a good idea. The promise I can make is that I am working with the developers to make sure that they understand how you feel as they go about making their decisions. Now, there will be times when I focus on the positive. There are people in this community who deserve an introduction to happy gamers who are doing amazing things to provide a service to their fellow Guardians. Those people deserve their due credit. This does not mean that I'm dodging your feedback. It means that I'm attempting to see our community from every angle - to give everyone a voice. This may have been ill-advised, but it's something I wanted to say. Hopefully it doesn't blow up in my face, because I actually do like talking to you on the forum. I respect the people who take the time to express their honest opinions on this and other forums. I would compel you not to stop. That is all. For now.

  • There is no way this post is ill-advised. It's class act, man. I can't apologize for anyone, but know that not everyone out here is all fire and brimstone about this game. I happen to love it. In fact, Imma go play right now. Peace!

    • I can't understand how Destiny is supposed to last ten years, I've enjoyed playing it but now I'm really struggling to find anything to do weekly's are done on Tuesday, VOG as early as possible, Daily missions and daily public event, run through bounties can be done in around an hour or so (weekends when players have more free time need's more bounties or something) PVP is incredibly limited I have little FPS background but when playing games like battlefield I could completely change my gaming experience by using different vehicles different classes gamemodes. Destiny has TDM and Control which with the objectives being so poorly rewarded is just TDM with a few places to camp near... Not complaining I downloaded digitally £80 with two DLC's (to come) without paying any attention to the hype or trying the beta. I've put in enough hours and had fun so no hard feelings when I say that it's actually very unlikely I'll download the DLC's as after I do VOG with my mates this weekend (I've already said I would) I'm just going to delete destiny and move on... sorry for the rambling wall but at least I haven't made a thread to say goodbye XD Good luck everyone :D

The problem is the people that code the game don't care what u post they have bosses that delegate tasks and goals to reach that they decide is prevalent to the future of not only the project at hand but the company in whole... the bosses them selves have support advisers who weed through hundreds of topic pionts and suggetion that are made aware by testers who are paid to look for flaws no matter how miniscule ..... then to cater to the public the setup an army of p.r.campaigners.who job its is to hire or recruit ppl to reassure the majority of its consumers that they are listening to ur feedback and to respond with scripted+ poll tested responses to ur complaints then u have the public faces and forum moderators that tie the whole process together to give u a false sense of a community that can influence change...................................................................................................................ONE OF THOSE FACES HAPPENS TO BE ........DEEJ ....himself.........

      • One request from the community "raid match making" I feel like is lazy, unsocial, and just unnecessary. If you want to raid, just go on the bungie forums and post on one of the many "raid finding" forums, or just message people in the tower. I've made many friends via raids with random strangers and it really has been a great experience. I used to be a bit uncomfortable with voice chatting with random strangers, but I feel much better about it now. I honestly see no need for raid match making and those who want it are just lazy, not to mention being matched with 5 random strangers who won't voice chat will just result in a very frustrating raid experience.

        • Forum goers, please just take a moment to think about your topic before you post it on the forums. Just follow these 5 steps. 1. Has this problem/solution etc. been posted before? 2. Am I writing this in a clear, intelligible way? 3. I understand whom this topic is directed and where it belongs. 4. Understanding that hot fixes and patches take time to prepare. 5. Deej is our friend, give the guy a break.

        • It is good to hear that Bungie is reading feedback, but what are they doing to follow up with that? Is there an action plan in place for what is prioritized and in what order? What issues are the engineers working on, what kind of content are the developers churning out soon? How well is the QA team with finding and crushing bugs? Can we get a list of fixes/tweaks and possible additions that is in the pipe 6 months down the road, a year down the road? There was talk about strikes getting balanced, but I have not heard or seen anything else on this matter. It would seem Bungie is more focused on making the game even more Random with how they are tweaking the raids and the boss choosing who to teleport. Do you have an ETA on the strike balance fix? Can we get some "real talk" instead of cryptic stories from time to time on the weekly updates? Do you talk to Bungie in the same cryptic manner?

          • Well thanks DeeJ, I will be patiently waiting for the much needed changes summarized below, if you guys at Bungie agree with me: 1. Fix Server disconnects 2. An in-game access to Grimoire cards 3. A page for faction status in 'Select Menu' 4. Button prompt for specific ammo recharges when Players have such in inventory and ammo runs dry 5. Materials locator on mini map (come on.. even Runescape has this) 6. Separate ARMOR sets for PvP and PvE with specific beneficial attributes (which then you could use to balance PvP further and not affect the PvE aspect of the game) 7. An in game 'bug report' process. 8. More Events! More Events! More Events! Thank you for reading.

DeeJ, I really respect you man, you have a hard job with all the people ranting and raving about Destiny, and when they're looking for someone to blame, it's you. Seriously guys, grow up and give DeeJ a break. He doesn't make all the decisions. That being said, though, DeeJ, it's a little frustrating sometimes with how vague you are when you discuss updates and the like. I mean, this guy (STRYKR 45) with another comment really hit the nail on the head. "DeeJ I like the game and Im glad you are listening to our feedback. But every time you make an announcement It sounds like the speaker... DeeJ: I am the one who speaks for Bungie. You must have no end of questions gamer... Gamer: So whats happening with our feedback? DeeJ: I could tell you of the great battle that's happening on the forums, of how changes are coming. I could tell of the changes to the game during development. There are many tales told throughout the forums to scare gamers... Lately those tales have stopped and the gamers are frightened anyway... Gamer: ???"

            • When you spend more on marketing than developing, you end up with a bunch of over-hyped people waiting on development to catch up to the hype. Looking forward to the expansions! Maybe my friends will get off Middle-earth, and play Destiny again.

            • So, this is going to be one of the more self serving replies on this thread; I apologize in advance. Recently, some of the community convinced me to apply to one of the open writer positions, so I threw my name into the hat just under a month ago. I sent a follow up email to HR to see the status, but have not heard back. I know it's absolutely a different part of the company, but is there any other way to see if my application moved forward or was denied? Thanks Deej, keep on trucking; I imagine dealing with the rants that have been happening lately must be a rough job.

Deej, I think you're missing the point of what the community is saying. Yes, seeing other Guardians in the community (Destiny Tracker, et al) embracing the game is nice to see and all of us can appreciate that...at the appropriate time. This is not that time yet. Right now there needs to be focus shown by yourself and your company on the concerns aired by the customer base. Most of the concerns aired on these boards are valid ones, because your company's product is failing to live up to the promises the company made when the game was being developed (Full customization, creating your own story, etc). Not only that, but the most basic function of the game itself (allowing the customer to actually log in and play the game they paid for) is failing at an alarming rate. To paraphrase the film Broken Arrow, "I don't know what's more disturbing; the fact that your game has this many connection errors or that there are so many your company has come up with a 'fun' name for each of them". It's alarming how badly this game is functioning and more so how much you and your company appear to be ignoring the problems. You like to post 'fluff' pieces to show how much fun the community can have with your intellectual properties. I get that. It's a great piece of marketing to showcase the fans in this manner, but until you start addressing the real issues the game is suffering from in a professional, non-condescending manner, then all you are doing is throwing these showcased fans under the bus, which they certainly don't deserve. Perhaps this will help you understand the position you've put us in: After buying into the hype surrounding a new car, you purchase it. The price you pay is very fair, considering all of the options that the sales team tell you the car has. You drive the car home and it runs like a champ, causing you to be the envy of many folks who see your shiny new, tricked out car. A few weeks go by and you start to notice little things missing - things the dealership promised you would be there. The radio only plays half of the stations, and even those feel somehow shorted. The seats aren't the color you wanted and you have no way of changing them without it somehow changing the color of the whole car. A few weeks later, the car itself isn't starting or when it does start there's such a bad hiccup in the engine somewhere that it renders the vehicle nearly un-drivable. You try to contact the dealership and voice your concerns, but they flat out ignore you, focusing on trying to make more sales in their showroom. You bought a lemon and you feel ripped off. That's how we're feeling, DeeJ. We're not asking for magic fixes that happen instantly - we're not irrational - we just expect you to keep us in the loop on what Bungie/Activision is doing to make good on the promises made during the promotional campaign before launch and to fix the problems that are plaguing what would be an amazing gaming experience. I'm not going to give you suggestions on what to add - there are plenty of other people that have offered up some really great ideas; ideas you and the company should give some serious consideration... ...after you fix the connection problems that prevent us from playing the game at all... or at the very least, address them in a professional manner, showing us (and not just telling us) that you do listen and that you do care. Is that too much to ask?

              • The post is appreciated :) I'm loving the game not had any problems here and really excited for the dlc. Been great getting my Mmorpg end game fix without all of the extras ( which is what a subscription and micro transactions would pay for ) keep up the great work !! Looking forward to seeing your full vision for the game come to fruition.
