The problem is if they were to include matchmaking we would have kids leave whenever they want to. Same with the strikes.. I did a strike yesterday with randoms because my friends weren't on and they left the game the moment they died. Complete waste of time. Matchmaking would make the game even more cancerous than it already is.

  • Or they put a system in similar to Call of Duty, where if you leave too many times (let's say 3) you can't play for awhile. Make it so quitters aren't allowed to at the raid for a week.

  • Well that's better than the current option of NOT GETTING TO PLAY AT ALL. I'd rather have the OPTION to play with randoms, then no option to play at all. So what if there's a chance someone could leave at any moment. Sometimes group composition sucks and there's literally no point in continuing. Sometimes I'm the guy that has to leave because my dog puked on the carpet. Life happens. Besides, friends rage quit too. It's not something that only strangers do. Remember, it's an OPTION. You don't have to use matchmaking if it's in game. You can continue to play with friends and the rest of us with odd schedules that don't align with our friends can use matchmaking and actually experience the game content.

  • never had a friend quit out because he died. Match making would be god awful, plus 99% of the people don't even have mics.

why not simply have a choice, when u choose gametype it gives u the option of co-operative aswell as matchmaking so the player is free to choose.

  • Raid matchmaking would be the option that everyone would try first. Most players will try the easiest way to play a level first. Once they try a couple times to get through the (now even harder) raid with teammates who likely don't have mics or aren't willing to listen to direction, it would leave a bad taste in their mouth and they will be far more likely to just forego it altogether than put the effort into getting a whole team together. First impressions are extremely important, especially in game design. Matchmaking for raids would spoil most players' first impression, making the general consensus of the experience much more negative. As Bungie is trying something new by creating such a cooperative, difficult experience in a FPS, I'm glad they chose to go with the more consistently positive route.

Again, without matchmaking, you have thousands of players who can't even experience the content they've paid for. And again, players are using Destinylfg.net and other similar services and completing the raid every single day. Everyone arguing that it'll be a poor experience or randoms can't play together have already been proven wrong, over and over again. They say Destiny is an MMO. However, the only thing I've seen that comes from an MMO is elitism and denial.

  • this is absolutely 100000000000% false. People use Destinylig.net because they know you can find people that actually know wtf they are doing.. You all have a common goal. Randoms rarely have a mic so you can't communicate with them. Also lets say someone only needs to beat one part of the raid, once they are done they will obviously leave. If they put join in progress in the raid that would be awful because im not trying to join in on the final part.

  • Both next gen consoles comes standard with a mic. There is no valid excuse for not having a mic anymore. People use Destinylfg.net because they have no other choice. The same people using it will be the same people matchmaking pairs you up with.

  • What is stopping those thousands of players? If it's having existing connections, I had zero friends playing Destiny at launch and through a combination of meeting players through free roam, strikes, and sites like destinylfg.net I now have many people to raid with. Regarding sites like destinylfg.net, it is far from random. You pick who you play with by the criteria. Very rarely does personality make me dislike a fireteam, it mostly involves lack of mic and incompetence. With those sites I can be sure to pick up people who have mics and have either done the raid before or seem competent. Lastly, both officially and practically, Destiny is not an MMO. I am not trying to be elitist or ignorant; I hear your argument and see the pros of matchmaking. I also see clearly the cons from personal experience, as previously described, and I rue the day when matchmaking is likely included, because I do believe it will leave many players with a negative first experience.

  • Well I can only speak for myself... I work 4PM-12AM Mon-Fri. I'm in my 30s now and the overwhelming majority of my friends work 9-5 alongside the rest of the normal world. Very few, if any, of my friends are awake after 12AM on a weekday these days. I don't get to play weekends because that's the only time I can spend with the girlfriend. So basically life is stopping me from experiencing this game under the very narrow conditions Bungie has laid out.

  • Sorry for your schedule, it sucks to need to work late. Personally, using the methods of sending friend requests to people I had a good experience playing with has net me several good raid buddies. It's likely that the people you meet in the game world at the times you play are typically on at that time as well. Literally about half of the guys I raid with are playing with me from 12:30 AM to about 4 AM their time (EDT). I'm glad they are willing to do that; once my first kid is in bed typically I only have from 8:30 PM PDT on to raid. Sites like destinylfg.net, while I still hold that they aren't actually random, might provide a relief for you as well. Hopefully those two methods can work for you. I'm personally glad that Bungie designed the raids without matchmaking, at least at launch, and I hope that you and others in your situation are able to find methods of friending that work for your schedule.

  • I have. Destinylfg.net lets me complete the raid. Based upon my previous experience with multiplayer games, devs typically relent when players turn to 3rd party tools en masse as they have with Destiny. I remember when global chat wasn't a thing in MMOs. People used third party tools to communicate (ICQ) and eventually devs added in global chat and it became a common feature for all MMOs afterwards. Matchmaking will eventually make it in. It's only a matter of time now.
