[POLL] Change to Raid loot system!

After many attempts at the Raid on normal and hard I've come to the conclusion many of us have, and that is "Man I'm the most unlucky person in the history of the world." Fear not however I have a mind blowing idea that if implemented correctly would greatly enhance the desire for players to do, and complete the raid. Step 1: Completely remove Raid weapons/armor from the item pool and replace them with a Currency that I will call Kabr's Memory Fragments. (could be called anything related to the VoG really) Make it so that 1-3 are rewarded from completing segments of the raid on normal and 3-5 for Hard. Kabr's Memory Fragments would be guaranteed rewards so fear not. Chest take it or leave it could yield either Raid gear or Memory Fragments, haven't really put much thought into it since they can only be opened once per week regardless. Step 2: Add a vendor in town (I was personally thinking Kabr's Ghost) who will sell almost every piece of Raid gear minus things like the Vex Mythoclast and Sparrow/Shader/Ship/player accents. Step 3: profit! Gear cost would be scaled but similar to that of other vendors so gear doesn't seem like it would be an endless grind to try and obtain, as your average run would look something like Normal = 5-15 Hard = 15-25 fragments. Example; Any Raid Weapon = 25 Kabr's memory Fragments Raid Helmet = 30 Kabr's Memory Fragments Other Raid Armor = 15 Kabr's Memory Fragments What are your guys thoughts? Good idea? Bad Idea?   • naw... no need for another currency. only Fix that is needed is people should be able to pass/need/greed. so my friends are lucky bastards but feel unlucky. one is trying to get AE and has 5 VoC. one is trying to get VoC and has 3 AE. now last night we beat the raid? guess what? #6 Voc for the one friend and # 4 AE for the other. what I propose happens at this point is people get the option to pass on the loot. the loot then goes into a need / greed / pass RGN that will give it to one of the other players in the fireteam. need would be an item for your class, greed would be wanting that raid armor for shards.

    This sounds like a cool idea. I don't think it would happen for this raid but maybe future ones. The idea is solid but I still think Hard Mode Raid gear should be drop only and normal raid should implement this idea. I don't really think this could happen. But I do think this is a good feedback rather than all the complaining feedback we've been seeing. Good constructive feedback MrFuddyDuddy. Update: I voted Maybe because it sounds good on paper but I can't be sure of the overall consequences this would entail.

  • I am one of the people with terrible luck but i think this is a bad idea. What is the point in drops if there is no luck involved. Doing this would make the game entirely a grind rather than allowing people to be lucky and run around in a full raid set after 1 week

    • why make weapons cheaper then helems, its not like that for marks...... 120 for helem 150 for weapon.......... also IF they did something like this it still would be everyone gets accent material except a couple people here and ther that would get these fragments, which means your back to the current loot system, this game is not a game for guarantees, what part in your time played made you think you deserve gaurantee loot, even Xur is a random item pool

      • The reason that the game is successful and prolongs the playing experience is because of the random loot. If it was guaranteed loot by playtime, everyone would be Level 30 by now and most likely stop playing. When it's random, it's like a slot machine or gambling and keeps people addicted and playing. You can disagree with the system, but it' the truth

        • Sadly, these forums don't do sticky or pinned topics. How about with the current mark system? Every time you compete the raid you get marks which you can trade in at a vendor in the tower for raid gear/guns

              Good thought, problem being you'd need 2 kinds of currency, HM and Normal, otherwise Billy Badass with his fully maxed HM gear will be pissed someone else got the same stuff as he did grinding HM by farming SM and Xur-ing it. You've already seen the strange coins for exotics fiasco... Edit: I voted Maybe. As lonh as you have to do HM for the HM stuff I think its got potential

                • I like this system, but I would prefer a different solution, that would give players a reason to come back/play the mission more than once a week. I think they should allow players to get multiple rewards from a single boss every week, however, after the first reward, have it as a random drop, the chance for which goes down after every successful drop afterwards. So say I beat Templar, and get ascendant shards. I can then go back and fight him again with a X% for something to drop, giving me incentive to go through the raid again. Then, after beating him a second time and getting the Treads, my chance for another drop decreases and I can fight him again for another chance. Maybe set the % to go from 100% to 66% to 33% and then to 0%, so it isn't that farmable, and you still have to rely on RNG for those drops. And if Bungie really wants to mess with us, they can dilute the drop pools so we never get what we want (I am joking, please don't do that, Bungie T^T).

                    I finished the VOG twice. I Opened all but one loot chest. All i got was ascedent meterials a couple of GREEN engram drops and a chatterwhite shader. I DID THE WHOLE RAID and received shit. A friend who joined for the final less then 5 minuts on the last raid received TWO (2) EXOTICS. Gess why i´m not too eager to doing this raid again?

                        • I did the raid for the 2nd time today and received the same chest piece and the chatter white shader as I did the first time. I shan't bother to do it again as the reward's are too random for the amount of time put into it.

How about after you beat Athena a secret passage opens, leading down to this HUGE vault, and when you open it it's full of the VOG's currency...GLASS! Lots of broken glass! Magical glass! From the Golden Age! It's incredibly valuable, and somehow the Vex have collected all of it and put it in this vault! :D

                              • Not quite there yet but loving the rng system and grinding so far as it mirrors my WoW days but with a higher chance of getting something which keeps ne interested. Wouldn't change anything so far and I like sound of VoG loot being random.

                              • Any common sense developers would have had this in from the start. If you are making levels based on loot then you damn sure better not make that loot random. That is about the dumbest thing I think I have ever seen in a game. If your going with an experience based progression then loot doesn't matter, but tying progression to loot means you MUST have multiple avenues to get that loot. Either implement a system like in the OP or take of the cap on running the raid only once a week. Seriously, I cannot believe that people at Bungie looked at this and thought it was a good system.

                                  Sadly even tho you make so much sense the problem lies in the fact there isn't enough content to support a system like this.[b] It's in bungies favor to stagger the speed the gamer gets gear just to extend the life of the game. [/b] This is their #1 complaint all across the board. I've had a bunch of people tell me I killed x boss for example and got nothing aren't I suppose to? Sorry sir you have been playing other games that made you accustomed to that, to the point where it feels like it makes sense to get gear for killing a boss because you just put a massive amount of time into the game. so killing bosses in this game doesn't always mean gear will drop. Killing raid boss grants you acess to raid RNG table that's it and guess what SHADERS are set to a high %.

                                • The RNG approach has been in use by MMOs for quite some time now. As a player I like the anticipation: will I get that piece I've been hoping for? Or maybe another piece I didn't expect? Or maybe shards / energy (RNG BE DAMNED - but hey, that's what keeps people coming back). Seriously though, from a designer perspective it's more appealing to do things this way. If you're guaranteed to have everything you need in 3-5 raids then you can shelf the game and go do something else. That's a large part of why so many games take the RNG approach. It's not the devil's system, it's just good for business...or maybe that's the same thing...

                                    • It's supposed to be hard. Anyone who gripes about not getting the random drop they want is obviously used to being handed everything. It takes work, time, and luck to get the best gear in this type of game. And some manner of skill.

                                      • I agree with the change. However your idea is kinda bad. Instead fix the system so that in the first four runs (max!) you get every piece you need. In all honesty, each boss should drop a piece, and atheon should drop on a gun. In other words, I think after completing your very first normal run you should have every piece but the helmet, and a gun.
