Bungie,
Seriously. Depressed Exos notwithstanding, take the ship schematics out of the random loot tables. Give us a good reason to turn them in (and the ships they magically turn into) to someone for a real reward. Give us a grace period to do it in, and then wipe them all out of our inventory. Start over. Because you broke your world by handing them out the way you do.
Make ships something meaningful - something EPIC - because the entire foundation of our character story gets kicked into the trashbin each time you give us a jumpship for nothing. Every duplicate schematic that I discard makes Dead Orbit, The Shipwright, and the first two chapters of my origin story look a little more hollow. Each City task to help keep ships in the air or build a fleet is a little less immersive.
Schematics should be like rooster teeth. Building a ship should be a serious undertaking, far more complex and involved than putting together an exotic shotgun. Materials, time, glimmer, recovery missions. Make that shit matter. It's the single most strategically relevant piece of hardware a Guardian can own (YOU SAID SO)...and you turned them into license plate frames.
Fixing this doesn't require moving the Earth: Use the framework you already have in place for exotic weapon bounties, it doesn't even require new art or voice resources to turn building a new ship into 10-20 hours of gameplay.
If I have a ship I don't want any more, it should be worth something, not just as scrap, but as a token of exchange.
This really, truly needs to be rethought folks. It's single-handedly undermining huge chunks of your world, and our character motivations for participating. Scarcity, Desperation, Expansion...all the fundamental themes you're working with...all shot to shit in the time it takes me to turn in a schematic and dismantle the ship.
That's what...three seconds?

+1 Well done, Brother Exo, and well spoken.

You haven't gotten a bump in a while...

Much appreciated, Cain.

Edited by SeanM984: 10/14/2014 10:41:46 PMI completely agree. Schematics should be rare and exorbitantly expensive to turn into ships, both in resources and glimmer. Perhaps we should also have to keep our ships refueled, either paying the shipwright or collecting helium coils on the moon.

I can't seem to find a ship besides the one was given to me there not n drops or chest mayb the other got it in the chest before me
-
I got 5 ships in 2 days
-
Chests are where I tend to find them most often. Not to worry about folks picking out all the good stuff and leaving you with the sucker prize: everybody gets their own bag of goodies from each chest.

I know juz venting the crazyness

Everyone complains about not getting legends or exotics thought it would be different to complain about a ship that does nothing but look nice figure they wouldn't be so hard to come by
-
Holy shit that was deep.

lol thanks

Much obliged :)
-
I totally agree.

Glad to hear it. :)

The quest to build a ship liek you propose would be awesome. If we needed a ship for somethign more than customizing our loading screen, that is. If we could take our ships in dogfights against a Cabal invasion force, or intercept a group of Hive seeders aimed for the hart of the city, I'd be giddy as all hell that I can finally try out the new weapons on my ship. Hell, the art book from the collector's editions specifically states that the ships have weapons. But there's nothgin to do with all of them.

Edited by aboniks: 10/11/2014 6:35:54 AMEven if all we ever do with them is customize our loading screens (please, Bungie, don't just leave it at that), a long quest line and a serious time/resource sink isn't unreasonable in the current iteration of this universe. I have to gain 25 level of experience to buy a class item that does nothing other than get me inspected by random Titans in the Tower. Putting ten or fifteen levels worth of time and materials into building a cool ship to show off in loading screens seems comparatively sane. But yeah...I definitely want to unload those missile pods on my Fangs of Nyx at a Fallen ketch, at least once.

Completely agree. At the very least, different ships should be on different timers. Even going so far as looking for shaders for that ship. Make us wait and work for it. The anticipation! The relief! The pride that we have it! And I think the same should be said for our guns and armor. Turn in mats to gunsmith and outfitter. Make that gunsmith actually smith!
