• The Speaker was originally evil, but when Bungie's writer left or got fired, they couldn't use it. Thus, we got a shit story. I'm glad it wasn't that, though. Too predictable. The first time I saw the Speaker I thought he was evil.

  • I think the entire thing that we exist in is a computer program (and a faulty one at that, but I will get to that in a moment), the Earth is destroyed and the traveler is using us to learn something about war. You notice we cannot die and get recalled if we do right, almost like a reset on a... game. None of what we perceive in the game is actually happening. The travel to other worlds, the restoration from our deaths, none of it is actually taking place in a real world; it is all inside a program that is being powered by the entity we see as the Traveler. Why... Gravity. All the locations we are going to have no differances in gravity, a mistake that the simulation that we are in has made and forgotten to represent. If we were really there, say on the moon, our jumping would be incredibly better and the sparrows would barely be able to remain on the surface after we rocket over any kind of a bump. Earth and Venus are similar (1.0 to .90 gravity each) so the changes there would be minimal but noticable. Mars and the Moon (.38 and .17 respectfully) are a third to a fifth roughly of Earth and the changes to movement, ballistics, vehicular activity would be vastly different. Jupiter (should we ever get there) with its 2.36 gravity (almost 2 1/2 Earths) would have us slugging along like snails as we tried to cross the surface, too exhausted to lift the almost three times as heavy weaponry we are carrying. Yeah, I know... but it occurred to us while running patrols on the moon and thought it might make some of you think. For a more serious topic of mine try here: http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/72178812/0/0/1 Enjoy and good hunting mates, see ya in the Tower.

    • So did you ever notice that all the guardians are the same that some where some how you have a double and that the only ones that have that are guardians. And that the normal humans are diffrent. I believe that's because we are the army of the traveler like in the movie oblivion, and we just don't know it. And if you look at our gear it coincides with the "enemy". The hunters mask look like the fallen, titans looks like the cabal and the warlocks looks like the vex. That's because I belive that we are the travelers 2.0 army I belive the traveler is being chased by something called the darkness and so he go's to world's that have inhabitants that want to grow so he helps them by helping them he is helping himself cause he is secretly building up his new army. But after each world gets attacked and enough people die they turn on the traveler and he leaves. He did this with each one. Now he is at earth to weak and tired to move again and is putting all his effort in us cause he knows that if we fall he falls. He is good but bad at the same time but not in a evil way in a I know everything that's going but I'm not telling you cause you might turn against me sorta way. So he is trying to preserve himself. But in the end he is good for us. But that's just one of my theories. I have more but not enough time right now to go over them. Sorry for my grammar and spelling mistakes. If you hot any theories please let me know. Knowledge is power.

    • I always thought from the jump that there was something off about the speaker, he just doles out the orders a d we blindly follow, I suspect bungie set a betrayal of epic proportions and sides to be taken in a later dlc, perhaps comet, that will seriously change shit up

    • You have seriously over thought this, and have done very little research into Destiny's development. That being said, the evidence and other information available or found by clever game players, tends to lean the argument towards Destiny being butchered story wise for a few possible reasons. Game play clips and videos for early and i mean really early game testers shows the game to be a lot more expansive in story and content. There has been evidence showing that Mercury and Saturn where supposed to be in the base game but where cut for some unknown reason. There was also a cut scene showing the Queens brother down on earth confronting your guardian. This evidence suggests that something seriously went wrong in the development in the game. Adding to this was the sudden departure of the lead writer and other key staff members at the tail end of the development cycle for the game. Basically there is no hidden story just a incomplete butchered one that will probably be sold to us piece by piece in various DLC content packs. That being said I like destiny. It is a good game with amazingly beautiful worlds. The game play mechanics are fluid and well done and it has the potential the be a franchise worth a lot of people time and money. The sound track is awesome and there are moments when the true potential of the story shines through. Overall I hope they fix the story so this game can be what people expect and want out of a triple A title.

    • seems like all of the new big advertised games are smaller and have less content then many of the older games, that made the industry so popular. we pay more for games now then ever before and get less for it...we need someone new, someone other than microsoft and sony

      • I didn't know Xûr said those things, I usually have my volume turned down lower so I never heard. "You walk among them." What could he be talking about? Obviously Xûr is dark energy, so he could be referring to an abundance of light energy as "them". However, so much of Destiny is so cryptic that it's hard to say. Interesting too, this game was theorized being cut in so many different places. We are left with shells of things that are no longer there, yet the characters still mention these things. They know things that you'll never know. Just creepy.

Guardians can be resurrected from headshots, there is a grimoire card where an Exo shoots himself in the head multiple times to try and figure out where he came from. He saw visions of fire and death, and cities on Jupiter being swallowed by ice before he freaks out and asks the ghost to revive him. Also, I never understood how no matter who is fighting (Vex vs Hive vs Fallen vs Cabal), guardians are always the #1 priority. They will literally stand next to each other and fire at you in tandem, because guardians are a worse threat than the other race. To prove this, start up Mars patrol and just go to the left down the hill, Vex and Cabal are fighting. As soon as you make your presence known though they focus everything on you. And the stranger was never a guardian, she says "I was not born of light" meaning she was not made how guardians are. She is merely Exo.

        • 1 + 1..... nothing deep about this story at ALL. Besides, the beginning of the story only makes sense for the exo race. The Ghost CANNOT revive organic beings/people such as humans and awoken. It only has god-powers when it comes to technology and machinery. :/

        • I totally agree with you, but I must add. That 500 million is for the whole ten year plan, and I'm pretty sure that it includes advertisement costs. So that's 500 million for 4 games, 4"comets", dlc, and advertisement over the course of a decade, which probably ends up being a pretty average triple a game budget.

          • I believe it was explained that the Fallen are servants to the Queens as she defeated their Kell, thus taking it's place as the House of Wolves' leader. This would explain why they're with her, and why she refers to them as "mine". However, the Awoken are shown to be neutral in the battle between light and dark, having been created by both. Does this also mean the Fallen are neutral too or are they basically slaves? We'll have to wait and see when the *sigh* DLC is released...

Who knows if their imagination is that good. I wait with baited breath. Your right though the traveller seems very sinister we really know knothing about it but kill for it.

          • So, At first I was under the impression that destiny's lack of story and character personality was just Bungie's way of forgetting how to make a video game, but now I'm feeling generous and I'm giving Destiny the opportunity to surprise me. I've been reading around the Internet and exploring in-game trying to get a feel for wether or not my theory is plausible. And I have to say, ever since I stepped foot inside the world of Destiny something hasn't been right. Now, remember that I'm explaining my thoughts now, before hand I just thought the games length and quality was just Destiny's way of setting itself up for opportunities to steal our money for what we should of obtained upon dropping $60 on the "full" game. Now here is my theory, and yes it's been said before, I am not the only one who thinks this. I believe the guardians are bad. Or just believe they're good but are pawns in one giant cleverly disguised conspiracy. Searching on the Internet would probably give you more researched evidence but this is my opinion based on the eerie feeling I get from the game. In fact, Destiny's lack of information, characters willing to explain things, and how I solely rely on a small little robot for information scares me. I honestly feel alone in this strange world that I have no idea what I'm contributing to. Ok, so think about it...you're revived by a robot that just simply says, "Yo bro you been dead a long time man, and you're in danger so shoot all these muddaf$&%# s because they're bad and you're good. Ok?" And then what do we do? We kill them all and don't ask any questions. Sure they're fighting back, but wouldn't you if you where them and you thought the guardians were evil. Look, who is this ghost? Do they not have names? Me and ole ghosty have been through a lot, and not once do I remember him introducing himself properly with a name? There are obviously other ghosts because you can revive dead ones hidden around maps and you can clearly see them buzzing around the tower just hanging out. Are they all named Ghost? I wouldn't think so. Why are we trusting a small robot for information when he doesn't even give us his name. And no dinklebot is not his name, even though I wish it was. How did we die? Did we die? Do we know? No. We don't. None of this gets explained. You're apparently a guardian, I mean you awake wearing all that armor and ole dinklebot says you're one, but are we? I mean our character literally has no emotion or adds anything relevant to the dialogue, he just asks blatant questions that ole dinklebot would blurt out loud anyways as he floats around saying random crap in monotone exposition. So your character never once makes any statement referring to his life before his death. So we can conclude that he has amnesia, or maybe our "good" buddy Mr. Ghost wiped our memory. Therefore we are kind of forced to believe that the first thing that finds us is honest and good. Also, our character didn't show any signs of fatal injuries. I mean hell, you can stand right up and dance if you want. So what did kill us? Sure you could say that the ghost could have healed our wounds upon reviving us, but if he could do that then whats the point of adding in dying animations? We should be immortal! No, obviously he can't fix us if we got shot in the face or something. So how did we die? Did we have a heart attack? I'm not sure they would let someone be a guardian if they had heart problems. What I'm getting at is that it doesn't make sense. We're revived by a robot that says we've been dead for a long time, there are no wounds on our character, our character doesn't show signs of remembering the past or anything for that matter, and we ignorantly run off shooting aliens? Another thing. Did anyone notice that the fallen in the opening cutscenes seemed to be looking for something? How did the ghost know where our body was? Maybe the fallen where looking for us to. Maybe they where trying to prevent the ghost from getting to us first and corrupting us. Ok, that sums up the opening scene. Now, what about that creepy dude called the speaker? Why does he never reveal his true identity? He just hides behind a mask. He attempts to explain something's but very vaguely like it doesn't matter. He just says,"I could tell you stories...", and then doesn't. For all we know there's this giant past that lead up that point that we don't know about, and maybe we don't know...because someone doesn't want us to know. Dude, the guy gives off a freaky vibe. If you listen to some of his dialogue when activating a patrol mission he will sound pretty angry when telling you to murder a certain amount of enemies. His tone made me feel like he got off by watching the fallen die. Like I expected him to laugh malevolently after the recording, that's how angry and disturbing his tone was. Moving on... Not only is the speaker sketchy but the exo stranger girl is just baffling. Who does she work with? Where is she from? Why does she look like a guardian but is not one? Who does she talk to? And why in the Sam hell does she never friggen explain anything. "I don't have time to explain how I don't have time to explain." *clap*clap*clap* Oh brilliant writing there Bungie, who helped you write that one, Tommy Wiseau? Here's my theory about her. I think she use to be a guardian but realized that the guardians are the ones that are evil. Now she works for a secret militia-like band of ex-guardian rebels, and is using you. I mean sure it doesn't add up for her to help you if she doesn't like guardians, but then again nothing gets explained. So my theory is still possible. This is slightly more of a detail rather than substantial evidence but did you wonder why the agent of the nine only stays two days? Yeah sure, maybe bungie hates rewarding us and doesn't want us to get exotics that easy, but have you listened to what he says? "What sort of thing are you?" "An end is here." "So much light here, I suppose I feel pain." "So lonely here." "An end will come...we will be there." "I...cannot endure this place long." "The deep black is many things but never lonely." "I have information but I do not know yet if you are the one it is meant for." "Your traveler has a dark mirror." And the one that I found most disturbing... "You walk among them." Maybe something interesting can be found within that. Moving on... Ok, so when you go to the reef how come they hate you? I mean the queens brother has no reason to dislike you personally, so why does he dislike guardians? Maybe he knows they are not 100% good. How come the fallen work along side them? You see them come up from behind the queens throne, you attempt to shoot them (because you're brainwashed to murder them) and she simply says... "It is afraid of the fallen. It does not understand that these ones are mine." Good fallen? Why does she refer to us as "it"? The evidence is convincing to assume that maybe in future installments we could possibly learn the truth about who we are and what our destiny is. In my opinion, Bungie messed up. Sure, we all know that the gaming industry now a days over charges us for games and then have the stupidity to ask for more money for more content that should have been in the final copy. And Destiny is the biggest flop ever. The story explains little to nothing, the characters are distant, cold, and flat out snarky, the story is short as hell, distances you from you're character who fumbles around like an numb nut while taking commands from a nerfed Peter dinklage, and then ends with the shortest cutscene ever that literally just blatantly says there will be more story to come.................... FOR MORE MONEY!!!!!! So, the reason I believe in this conspiracy is because I would rather think that there's a subliminal plot that us, the players, can discover than just accepting the fact that the game is like 5 hours long and sucks major a**. The game is literally called Destiny...the commercials make it seem like you make your own. So wouldn't that mean that at some point in the game we would have to make the decision between right and wrong? So what do you believe ? Did we get robbed from creating our own destiny like the game entitles, or is there a conspiracy afoot that adds to an over all plot? And I tell you what, if there is a bigger picture, the short piece of it we saw for $60 did not immerse me enough to give a flying flippidy flop if there even will be a plot twist. So I have to pay more money to experience the game that flopped in the first place! WHAT THE F&@$!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I really want to like this game... Look bungie, take my word for it. A conspiracy lurking amidst the fog of a boring and vague story would really pull back your fans. Because right now people are just grinding away for loot instead of giving a flying crap about your story. Some of the best films and stories of all times have been published without $500 million dollars funding them. So we expect more to come. And I swear to mother Tina turner if you charge me for a story expansion because you couldn't tell it right the first time, I'm trading that damn game in for $2 in-store credit at GameStop. Ok, maybe I won't sell it because its not that bad of a game...but still. You already got my money and half the friggen continent's, so be happy and don't ask for more. Sincerely, A fan (for now) Sincerely, A fan (for now) P.s. expect typos because I care so hard. Bruh. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jqSlaMME-Mk
• I've read a theory like this before it seems the most plausible. Essentially you have two people who know the truth, the stranger and the speaker, so both speak for different sides, traveler/not traveler, so it really implies that one of them is misleading you. You must have died fighting the fallen though that's the only reasonable explanation, further proof of this is that the awoken happened because of the collapse and the exo were made to help fight the darkness, which in my opinion supports your theory a whole race was created got fighting? That's just sorta shady. But either way you could only have existed after the fallen were attacking so maybe your death was actually before ghosts and the travelers incident but you were still a soldier, which is why you were just ready to fight. I completely believe the fallen are evil though, the vex the hive the fallen and cabal are all fighting for control, against you and against each other. I also think it well be likely that dark might come into play with armour and that will be your choice which would actually limit you to a new social hub so maybe not but that's later for sure.
