How do you feel about hand cannons now?

Hand Cannons still need more power

Hand Cannons are great the way they are

Hand Cannons are OP

Hand cannons seem to have gotten a slight buff but not near enough. Why would I choose a hand cannon versus a scout rifle when they have pretty much the same damage per shot but one has almost twice as many rounds and a higher rate of fire and both equally accurate if the scout rifle is not more accurate or at least a little easier to aim. The hand cannon can't even get a one shot kill head shot on level 8, granted the scout rifle cannot either but with the limitations the hand cannon has ammo/ROF wise I think it should be a lot more powerful. Literally not enough bang for my buck on the hand cannon. Maybe there are better ones in the full game? But right now they are still resembling what should be a "secondary weapon" not a special but a secondary. Like an "oh no I'm out if rounds in my primary better switch to the last ditch effort to make it outta this!" Any other opinions on these so called "cannons"?

  • Honestly, I used to prefer Scout Rifles over Hand Cannons (or anything else for that matter) for PvE and PvP, but then I rolled Hawkmoon on a random Legendary engram, and in the process of leveling that bad boy (still not fully leveled) I came to love the HC. I actually started neglecting my Legendary Scout Rifle in favor of leveling Hawkmoon and a back up HC (non-exotic...it's only a Rare and still pretty killer, though I'll admit the mag size is limited on Rare HCs) Most of the Legendary/Exotic HCs have pretty god mag sizes and range so that's sort of a non-issue. Rate of fire is slower than a Scout Rifle and stability is a bit of an issue (Hawkmoon is actually ok for the power it puts out), but you get used to both quickly. The big difference, and what makes up for the RoF and Stability, is that my Rare HC can one shot kill a Knight when my Legendary SR takes at least three shots (and Rare AR around one-third to half a clip). So mag size may be smaller and RoF my be slower, but if you are good enough to hit the target, you don't need as many shots. As for PvP, I mostly suck regardless of weapon choice. I'm more of a "panic and melee" player, with the occasional lucky Auto Rifle/Grenade/Shotgun kill. I'm still working on building HC skill in PvP, but if I can get to the level of play I'm at with PvE, I'm sure the HC would be reliable. The one gripe I have with HCs is that the sights are a bit lame. Hawkmoon is ok, because it has cool rail fins that frame the sight, but all other HCs just have a snapshot sight, which make aiming down sight a bit difficult to get used to. I would love to see a HC with a proper red dot sight, or even a ranged lens, just to have something to switch to for mid/long range scenarios. (check my Warlock if you want to see Hawkmoon's stats)
