Fire is concentrated on the Ogre. It is enraged. It charges forward at the Titan. Surprisingly fast, it reaches him mid jump. The Titan lands on the mould like back of the Ogre and drapes his arms around its shoulders, digging his fingers into the surprisingly supple decomposing flesh searching for a handhold. The Warlocks hold Threefold formation, critically damaging the Ogre’s face as the Hunter engages Bladedancer, expertly slicing the tendon’s of the Ogre’s arms as to be no longer of use. “Titan, catch” the Hunter says, balancing a whisper loud enough for all to hear, throwing the Dead Ghost toward the Titan on the Ogre. The Titan catches the Ghost and brings it slamming down into the Ogre’s face. Once. Twice. Three times. The Hunter, still a Bladedancer, weaves around to the back of the Ogre and slices the tendons in its hind legs. The Ogre launches forward, falling, Titan still wielding the Dead Ghost like a Mace. The Awoken Male quickly grabs a discarded Fallen spear, placing it on an angle and using his foot to keep the base of the wood stable in the mushy ground as the Ogre rushes to meet it. The spear tip penetrates through the other side of the Ogre’s head, narrowly missing the Titan by a hairswidth. “Oi, you almost got me there!” exclaims the Titan, obviously miffed. “Well you shouldn’t have been there”, muses the Awoken female warlock, not even slightly amused. “Come on”, cites the Hunter, “lets move to a safer place”. The point was underscored by a sniper shot from a Vandal above, assassinating the Exo Warlock where he stood. “Light of the Traveller!” curses the Titan, as they hurry to move below through to one of the sewers channels. As they find a tunnel and move forward, their feet trudging through centuries worth of faecal matter and dirt, the Exo Warlock appears behind them resplendent in shimmering solar. “Never count out a Sunsinger” the Exo asserts. “Can you turn that bloody thing off, it hurts my eyes”, exclaims the Hunter. “And they’ll spot us from ages away”, adds the Awoken male Warlock. “You of all people should know that age is not a unit of distance Awoken”, chides the Awoken female Warlock. “Oh for goodness sake, not another Warlock lecture!” cries the Hunter, rushing ahead to scout. They walked for a time, climbed for more. The tunnels appeared endless. A myriad of Hive-wrought and man-made, they spanned the expanse of the city. “Light!” called the Hunter, as he waited for his fire team to catch up to him. Walking slowly and cautiously they made their way towards the light, a gleaming blinding brilliance compared to the damp darkness of the caves. Light it was, and land. The opening was up the mid way area of a hill, the positioning of the sun in the day alerting them that it was the middle of the day. Looking down form above, the cityscape of the area once known as Sydney was overgrown with greenery, with the Harbour hidden by towers and former velocity rails in half-destroyed states. The Hunter, always keen for a better vantage point, speeds to the top of the hill. Looking out, he surveys the landscape around him. Above, a hawk flies through the sky, for a moment encased in the ardent light of the sun before diving to catch its prey. The other Guardians gathered around, waiting, expectant. “So what now?” asked the Titan, always the first to speak. The Hunter paused, taking a moment to consider the leadership that led to the massacre, the loss of 600 Guardians. We could do better. “We find any survivors. We bring them with us. We find a safe haven, safer than this. And we rebuild.” he says, looking up. The hawk was again in the sky, hungry for another kill, it’s feathers flashing sunlight as it again dives for the solace of the departed. “We are Hawks, Ardent Hawks. And we will bring light to the shadow.” And they did. ---- Context: Our clan Ardent Hawks was formed largely from the refugees of a clan that decided to cull 600 members with little information or warning at the time. I thought this Fan Fiction was fitting, although it's in no way perfect. Am sharing it because it seems a few stories are doing the rounds and I'm slightly proud of this one. So, how's the story?
