Soo... since when was halos story so good?

I keep hearing people compare the stories of halo and destiny like bungie dropped the ball so bad. But I played the first 3 halos and I don't remember the story being that compelling at all. An argument could be made for halo having better characters but the story was just as tangled and unremarkable I think. Maybe I could be wrong it's been awhile since I played them because my 360 broke not long after I got it and never bothered getting a new one. I'm just confused because I hear that this game is uncharacteristic for bungie, but I've always saw halo as having amazing gameplay and a story no one ever cared about. Edit: wow this blew up quickly I only expected 2 or 3 replies, love everyone's passion. It is quickly becoming apparent that this story meant alot more to some other people than me and my friends, and that's great maybe one day we will be having this same conversation about destiny. Edit II: extended universe does not count, I'm talking in game story. I would also make this point, the people saying the story will come together with dlc are getting tons of flak on this forum. Well I would argue those books are just non-playable expansion packs. Why weren't those archs in game if they are so important to the story.

Yes, I thought the same thing, Destiny has an interesting universe, like Halo. But storytelling never was Bungies strong suit. Halo also threw a lot of stuff at you without much explanation and just in retrospect with all games/lore/books/etc. it seems "epic" And for those complaining about not getting a "complete" game, I just leave this gem: Admiral Hood: Master Chief, you mind telling me what you're doing on that ship? Master Chief: Sir? Finishing this fight.

  • Halo was more or less copy and paste storylines, and they soon forgot about the main focus "Halos" which were quickly tossed from the story, after halo 2 it was the same story just prettier

Halo did have great gameplay, and a great story, but im not comparing it as if its better Destiny. Destiny so much more than just a simple shooter. Whens the last time you played a shooter that let you go to random areas and run into random players that are just free roaming or an event with other players just starting where you can even jump in to get some share of the glory(and even be rewarded for it), now i understand that this game is like borderlands, but is because they started that kind of genre of shooter which it to had to learn things from other games. Destiny is just a step to some interesting kinds of games you might not think about, its new as a whole, but yes its a game made up of lots, i mean lots of other game genres out there, its what sets apart from the classic shooters and rpgs and even those small mmo qualitys.

  • It's not just the story, It's the way Destiny's story is told that bothers people. No character development, no cutscenes, no epic prologue, vague reef brother etc. Halo CE had a nice plot with some twists and so on. You really achieved something at the end. This right here could be a good story but they've chosen for a different path. A simple story in the right hands can become a masterpiece...

  • 100% agree lol. I didn't give a -blam!- about the story in halo. Nor do I in the story of destiny. It's the game play. The only game I really enjoy the "story" and "lore" in are the warcraft games and that's because there are literally hundreds of hours of lore to explore. There's a detailed documentation of the entire history of the game universe. But as far as halo/destiny? I just enjoy the game play
