I keep hearing people compare the stories of halo and destiny like bungie dropped the ball so bad.
But I played the first 3 halos and I don't remember the story being that compelling at all.
An argument could be made for halo having better characters but the story was just as tangled and unremarkable I think.
Maybe I could be wrong it's been awhile since I played them because my 360 broke not long after I got it and never bothered getting a new one.
I'm just confused because I hear that this game is uncharacteristic for bungie, but I've always saw halo as having amazing gameplay and a story no one ever cared about.
Edit: wow this blew up quickly I only expected 2 or 3 replies, love everyone's passion.
It is quickly becoming apparent that this story meant alot more to some other people than me and my friends, and that's great maybe one day we will be having this same conversation about destiny.
Edit II: extended universe does not count, I'm talking in game story. I would also make this point, the people saying the story will come together with dlc are getting tons of flak on this forum.
Well I would argue those books are just non-playable expansion packs. Why weren't those archs in game if they are so important to the story.

That's not the point. Halo followed a clear line with begining and end. Even if it wasn't a great story. The Destiny story is shit. No clear end, so many unanswered questions, and much more...
-
Okay but why then does Bungie after 8 years of development and enough money make a new game on par story wise with their first big game. That seems like a massive step back IMO.
-
When It was launched.
-
I played halo simply for the story.
-
I don't think the two are even comparable, destiny is incredibly basic (some interesting ideas but never fully explored) Halo is in its own league and easily one of the best sci-fi universes in the modern day (minus post halo 3 and forerunner trilogy)
-
I never played halo, but my critique f this game is: If halo had a better story than COD than it probably had a better story than Destiny
-
It's not so much the quality of halos story, but the quality of how bungie presented it to the player.
-
The Halo stories were great (Halo 2-Halo Reach) if you paid attention to it (instead of mindlessly shooting things). But, even if they are not as great as the Last of Us or some other game with a great story, the missions were distinct and fun to play.

Edited by Adryn Bliss: 10/4/2014 1:57:28 AMpoint conspicuously over looked by the supporters: they did a blind jump and out of the entire freaking galaxy just happen to arrive at a halo. halo had about as many actual answers as destiny does and my first thought was why the hell would they run it like that again but then i figured it worked out pretty well the first time round didn't it. It's pretty clear that bungie are attempting to hit the same notes franchise wise a second time round, if it ain't broke don't fix it and logically it's a fairly solid plan.

Edited by Jimbo_024: 10/4/2014 1:43:06 AMAt least I knew what the hell was going on in halo. We're at war with aliens. We find some crazy ring. The aliens find the ring too. Oh no why are they here? Aahhhhhh! It's a weapon! Own aliens, destroy weapon. Simple, but I knew what was going on. In destiny, you're a zombie fighting literally everything you see, for a broken death star that has an enemy you never see? Or is every race of anything not human? And you've been dead for five years? Or five hundred? And guilty spark er I mean your ghost is a dinkle bot? Lol I just don't know what the hell is going on still.

I don't even know how to compare the destiny story with any of the halo stories. I still remember the halo one story, what I was doing, and what I was doing it for, even though I beat it years ago. I beat destiny's story two weeks ago and I still have know idea what I did. This games story was not even close to coherent and it had you all over the place with barely an idea what you were doing with absolutely no reason why you were doing it. You also had some of the most pitiful character building I've seen in years. Again, I can't even compare halo and destiny's stories because were in totally different leagues.

Just one point, if halo's extended universe "doesn't count", Why on earth should the stupid "grimoire cards"? The expanded universe is a great addition to halo's lore, the base story in the games is great, but the most notable sign of a rich and compelling universe is when there's space for multitudes of captivating tales.

Halo always had a great story.
-
In the years of Halo: CE and Halo 2, story was not quite to a point where every game needed or had it. Destiny was made a decade after these titles and it has less story in game than Halo 3 maybe Halo 2

Since 2001 take out the two zeros equal 21
-
Story's are for babies.
-
Since they woke Master Chief, told him he needed to take Cortana, keep her safe from the Covenant, and escape the Pillar of Autumn before they crashed it into that ring-world thing in the distance. Better story right there than all of the rambling in Destiny. And that was just the first few minutes of the first mission of the first Halo.
-
Even if halo's story was garbage, Destinys story is 5 times worse.
-
Halo was the worst game series ever made FOH
-
Did halo even have a story?
-
I've been thinking this for a while lol

Halo's story was good, but for those who disagree, it was at the very least COMPLETED and had a good ending and many cut scenes. A few good parts to note were when master chief dove with the bomb through space, that was epic, or how we learned through halo 1 what killed off humanity and what the "rings" were actually created for, in general, i felt more close to master chief for whatever reason, you were able to dive into the story with him, there was life in it.. i wasnt a part of Destiny's story at all, it felt repetitive even on the first run-through.. I wanted to skip most of the cut scenes heh.. and for whatever reason, I cringed whenever the ghost spoke to me.. but I loved when cCrtana would, there was a connection between Cortana and master chief.. an almost flirtatious one, and they gave Cortana a hot body even though shes A.I. because they knew most of the people playing the game were going to be males.. they just had everything worked out in a very smart manor.. I honestly am starting to think that whoever started this whole halo thing back in the day is no where near Bungie anymore.. because i didnt get the same feelings AT ALL when playing Destiny.. :(
