I just wonder...has anyone on theze forums ever played an MMO style game before? They are all repetitious, they are all just grinding the same raid and dungeons over and over again, they all have a terrible in-game story (the lore for MMO games has always been told in books, not story progression). I just dont get why the witch hunt on Bungie, makes no sense. You people DO know their will be more content right?

  • I have to wonder if you've ever played an MMO style game before. You know, the ones which have content that usually lasts for months before you start repeating the same handful of dungeons, like Destiny does within two days? The one with deep and involved stories that consist of more than four plot points, and actually give you numerous NPCs with their own side-quests and stories to complete, with character development for the major NPCs? You've obviously never played the elephant in the room, WoW, which does actually tell its lore in-game. A game which launched with eight races, six starting zones, nine classes, thousands of unique quests before you even start getting into the repetitive dailies and raid-grinds... and WoW then built on that months of content that was available on launch, over a period of ten years. It launched with a couple orders of magnitude more content than Destiny, and that was TEN YEARS AGO. People have had time to learn from them since then. I think anyone who has ever played an MMO style game before is probably in for a bigger disappointment than anyone else. Because pretty much every other MMO shows us how it can be done, and Destiny decided to bypass the months of storytelling part and skip straight to daily quests and raid gear treadmill. That's probably what's most disappointing to anyone who's ever played an MMO. Daily quests are not popular in MMOs. Nor are raids - even though they're the focus of development, the staggering minority of players ever actually get into them, despite all attempts at reducing barriers to entry. Less than 20% of players. It makes you wonder why Destiny would take the two least popular parts of any MMO and make that their entire game.

Someone hasn't played Guild Wars 2..... Which, by the way is free to play. Or how about Star wars the Old Republic? That game had way more cut scenes and dialogue than this game and is again, free to play including extra content. Man, I could go on and on but I really don't think you will see my point. Edit #1 Whoops. Replied to wrong comment. Forgive my eyes.

  • SWTOR's friggin prologue intro zones have more story for one class/faction in them than everything in Destiny combined.

  • OK, I'll save you the TL;DR: Short version is I proved you wrong and ignorant. If you want to know the specifics, don't worry, there's only three paragraphs there of a few lines each. You'll survive if you pace yourself. Don't hurt yourself trying to read it all in one go, though.

  • I've played a few MMOs. They were not as shitty at launch as folks here make them out to be.

  • Are you predominantly a PC gamer? If so then welcome to the glorious world of the pre-pubescent console gamer where if there isn't a helicopter crashing every 15 seconds accompanied by an edge of your pram "press X to grip onto a crumbling cliff" cutscene then the developer deserves to be called things that would make a sailor blush. sadly the mature gamer who understands business, commerce and life in general gets drowned out by the highly pitched vocal majority.

  • Soooo, How many times have you been to see a film that has looked amazing in the trailers only to find that all the best bits were in that 1 min of advertising? How many times have you strolled into a fast food burger place and seen that delicious looking beautifully photographed burger on the big board and said "i'll have one of those please" only to be served what resembles roadkill (but still enjoyed it) How many times have you ordered those magic "make your penis bigger with just one pill" tablets only to find its still tiny but you are now having heart palputations ( ok just me then!) advertising is there to convince people to buy stuff, that is the world of capitalism i'm afraid, they have your £40/$60/3000000000yen purely off the back of the advertising, no promises, just hype. If you can accept that then life will be full of far fewer bouts of disappointment. scepticism is a good thing. On a lighter note, i personally enjoy this game.

  • It is absolutely true that advertising serves the purpose of allowing people to be misled for the sake of a purchase. And it is also absolutely true that they deserve the complaints they receive for subverting expectations.
