FFXIV v1.0 was a major flop. Square Enix saw this and made a drastic decision. Save the game. Rebuild it from the ground up. And that was an MMO. Nearly a year and a half after launch they closed servers for 8 months an built a game that, now, is 10/10 in most reviews. I like Destiny, but its not the game they advertised and its not a game i want to continue to invest in. Solely because its a bad story. And if 404 is to be believed, it was not before. Bungie + Activision. Even if 404 legitimately isn't an employee, you have to see how often people are citing your previous exposure of Destiny. it isn't what you promised. A reboot is possible. Others have done it and succeeded.
