Bungie Speaks! Analysis of the Dev's Notes

So you couldn't shut up about Bungie being silent could you? Well guess what? The gag has come off and you're welcome for the link. Here's my reaction to what they have to say. Read their words for yourself above. Loot. He Who Shall Not Be Named: Apparently there was a miscommunication between Bungie and the players about how the Cryptarch works. Namely players expecting the color of the engram to identify with 100% accuracy what the item is while the Cryptarch goes "Oh! Loot! I have no idea what I'm going to give you so lets roll the dice." "Expect Changes soon." Not sure if this means they will make the "Random Loot Table" of the tooltip more visible or adjust the drop rate to skew more in line to drop the color of item to the color of engram. Wording is too vague and makes me think it could go ether way. Destiny: The Cave Apparantly while the Cave was an interesting social experiment. The Devs did NOT intend for the cave to work as it did. While they praise the organization of those who gathered outside of them, they wanted this organization to be found in the provided activities OTHER then standing outside a cave and shooting into it. However they clearly state that while incoming change to remove this now clearly defined exploit from play. They will and are working to increase reward rate from activities. You will soon be rewarded appropriately for the effort you put into PvE. Reward Celebration Apparently people have not been paying close enough attention to their screens to notice when rewards are being handed out. Bungie believes they are at fault for this and expect changes to create a big fanfare when rewards are given out. Social Voice Communication Apparently the vast vocal "majority" of you can't tell the difference between Honesty and Abuse. Bungie agrees and explains that the reason they have not YET added voice communications is because those vast numbers of vocal users are highly abusive and Bungie does not want their players to suffer from being verbally abused citing "Even our own programs from Halo did not do enough to protect players." Somebody ruined a good thing for the rest of us. Good news on the other hand though. Bungie HAS been at work on the Voice Communication aspect of Destiny which will allow you to more easily shut out those abusive griefers and still enjoy Voice Communication. Expect this feature to be implemented before the end of the year. Activites Strikes They've tracked down an issue in the formula in strikes that was unintended. Apparently there was a bug that increased incoming damage and decreased outgoing damage. The result was a hard grind that was not what Bungie wanted and they will adjust this for a better flow to the Strikes. Unfortunately (Or Fortunately depending on which way you swing) this was intended for Raids. Sorry guys. The challenge level of that is going nowhere. Balance They admit there is some issue here and prepare to rejoice... or weep. Exotics: Exotic weapons are intended to clean house. No exceptions. Those such as Thorn and Bad JuJu which were deemed "Unusable" they say "Don't throw those away. We hear you and expect things to change for the better." Auto Rifles: They feel that Auto Rifles are starting to become to effective at long ranges out-preforming Pulse Rifles and Scout Rifles. Expect Auto Rifles to suffer from a sudden change in stability to throw off performance past mid-range with/or damage adjustment. However Auto Rifles are supposed to reign supreme at close to mid range so working as intended there. Scout Rifles: Scout Rifles are supposed to be unwieldy at anything close then midrange. Expect a damage buff to make Scout Rifles the Sniper Rifle's little brother. Make your shots count. Shotguns: To my great relief and I expect to see much hate over this... the incredible damage of shotguns is working as intended and is here to stay. However they have heard and agreed, especially when intentionally upgraded this way, that the range on some of these Shotguns is unreal. Expect Shotguns to suffer range problems in the future. Some of these issues bring new light to what has been going on the game and answer a few questions. Clearly Bungie has not been idly sitting around with their thumbs up their asses as a great number of you believe. They have been quietly playing the game and reading feedback form the forums. They've now broken the silence after two weeks of data gathering and I for one am both please about some things, and surprised about others, but most of all, satisfied that my patience has been rewarded and we're a little wiser about the game. Bungie has spoken! See you next time. -Adhock
