Math is wrong. My game record is proof. Have gained more legendaries and exotics farming for a few days than you possibly could rep farming.

  • the beautiful thing about statistics is the likelihood of them being wrong occasionally, you take millions of people and throw them into a game world and test statistics you will always find outliers from either end of the luck spectrum which will result in a median (in this case i was assuming the median would be about once every 300 enemies killed you receive a legendary engram, and that 15% of the time that will yield a legendary item and 1% of the time an exotic item, which seems pretty reasonable to me)

  • Well the drop rates in his calculations are a bit off tbh. Also a statistical test held by some group from a pool of 90 legendaries yielded about a 33% drop rate from enegrams so you get a 1/3 chance from it, furthermore the loot cave is alot easier than rep farming imo. You can literally multitask and get other things done while standing near the cave. Personally though I've bought most of mu gear with marks/strange coins. Got quite a few weapons from the cave though, if not directly from the cave than ranking cryptarch up from blues to get legendaries from him.

  • But the math here is based on literally nothing substantial. All we can actually go on is comparisons. Compare people who have farmed versus waiting 2 weeks to be fully geared from solely doing reputation. The chance of reputation kenning is little to none.

dude do you not understand how RNG works? a random number is chosen among a range so for example N will be a single number from a range of 300 numbers which represent number of enemies killed and N enemy out of 300 will drop a legendary engram. and that's the first layer of the RNG tree The fact of the matter is that a lot of people who choose to farm the lootcave are probably just too lazy to do anything else... keep in mind something; reputation levels will be essential for getting gear quickly when new gear is released, while sitting in front of a lootcave will only be a smear on their names and mean they were so lazy that they didn't want to do anything but rely on luck and a cheap trick to get everything they have, think about that for a minute.

  • Eh most people in the loot cave will suffer yes but others such as myself have benefited greatly from it because I don't farm it often and when I do its for an hour or two and I walk away with quite a lot of blues to level my cryptarch. I still play all other aspects of the game (I do all the weekly heroics, daily stories, bounties, raid, and do the nightfall) and collectively from that i gain reputation quickly while still being able to farm the cave occasionally when i want to relax after some of the more challenging things in the game... Or what bungie intends to be challenging anyway.

  • good for you man, that doesnt sound bad at all, but some people literally spend their entire days at that cave and then complain that they dont have any gear to show for it

  • When near gear is released I bet it'll be from drops not rep. The gear gained from rep is so limited.

  • i doubt it man, you think bungie is just going to scrap their vendors? the only way I can see that happening is if they do away with the tower and move to another social spot for future expansions, but im thinking the vendors will just get better gear as the expansions are released and require more and more reputation to purchase as well. it would be a slap to our faces to work so hard for rep and then have it mean nothing, but it has been done before in world of warcraft and such so i guess you never know

  • I'm sure they'll have new stuff, but the best if the best will always be found in random.
