So Angry Joe recently posted his review on Destiny. After watching the video and combined with my own thoughts after a few dozen hours throughout these past 2 weeks, I came to the conclusion that although there are definitely aspects of Destiny that I will keep coming back to and enjoy thoroughly, I cannot honestly give anyone the OK to buy the game without a laundry list of caveats that will put off a lot of people.
1. Insanely repetitive mission structure
2. A supposedly deep and intricate narrative that has almost no presence in the game itself
3. A randomized loot system that seems to put little to no priority on actual performance
~ And a whole lot of smaller gripes that accumulate to make one disappointing experience. For everything that Destiny does right either immensely or in some small but noticeable regard, (gunplay, PVP, class variety, character and weapon customization, etc) there seems to be some facet of the experience that feels gutted, abandoned or just not very well thought out.
TLDR VERSION: IMO Destiny = Good foundation, Disappointing Execution. Thoughts?
TLDR VERSION: IMO Destiny = Good foundation, Disappointing Execution. Thoughts?
Thats pretty much my thoughts too. Its like they know where they were going with the game. *We are supposed to explore like in a MMO, but while the maps are beautyfull there really isn't much to do after the first trip around. The Beta map was far the best in that regard, and we were already worried about the amount of content then. *We are supposed to level gear in PvP, but all gear advantages has been turned of, and the true RPG mode, "Iron Banner" is not available outside special events. *There should be a epic storyline, but it is not even "staggered", which is the defence some uses. No, it is fragmented, scattered pieces of the first chapter of a book, missing half the pages. *The patrol mission does not scale with your level, but apparently a L3 Thrall is just as likely to drop good loot as a L20 Cyclops. So half to 3/4th of the maps are really below you level, but you still get bounties there, go there for public events and missions etc. Not to mention the infamous lootcave. *Its about getting great loot, but the loot is just start variation over the same handfull of models, except a few exotics. There should be dozens of model variation over each weapon types, a thousand legendary and a hundred Exotics. So whats it going to be Bungie? Skyrim, Diablo or COD? It looks like they are trying to mix the three, but each component has become far too diluted.

I don't base my judgement of games on other peoples thoughts, I make my own decisions, based on my experiences of playing them. Destiny promised a lot and delivered a little, that's my experience, agree, disagree, that's your prerogative. I'm playing now as a time filler until next month when other games will more effectively take up my spare time. As Arnie says I'll be back, from time to time though in hope that something new has been added.

Excellent FPS crippled by poor MMO gameplay. Initially I thought the low review scores were a bit harsh but after over 70 hours invested in the game it's become clear that the concerns raised concerning the game are valid. The strike missions are repetitive and boring, last night I did the psion flayer tiger strike four times in a row. Couldn't give a toss about gear as the juice for me is the hooking up with 2 strangers and blitzing strikes. Destiny feels like a second job at times, one long grind with little reward for your efforts. A wasted opportunity!

Proximity chat in the tower. This is meant to be a social area yet you fail to let us socialize. Stop nerfing levels i like a challenge, but i would like to share the difficulty with others i meet in game.

>2014. >Still watching that beaner review games when he can't play for shit. When will you kids learn that big YouTubers are crap at video games and have a shit personality?

Edited by DEZARATH: 9/22/2014 8:50:00 PMIt just makes think that if Bethesda ever made a space RPG It would be well received.

I definitely agree that the campaign has little to no content involving what you would think to a deep and rich lore. No sense of communion with the Last City on Earth. You have access to the Tower, and that is it, and even it is a means to an end. You don't engage with the world. It's just an inventory directory. I want to see the last city on Earth. I want to know what the people are like! I HAVE A MOTHERF#$%IN' SPACESHIP, AND IT IS INVOLVED IN NO GAMEPLAY WHATSOEVER!!!!! :( It's just a cutscene. Why not include it in the gameplay. Hell, you could've had aerial dogfights in both the campaign and even made it a multiplayer match feature. I have access to one vehicle in the world and 2 in multiplayer. That makes no sense to me. Another thing... Sparrow racing. It should happen. lol

Pretty much, it's a good game, and I've enjoyed it, but and I have some serious issues with the game that make me want to pull my hair out. Lack of Voice chat in and out of PvE and PvP, no Nightfall strike MM, no clan or team making tools, the loot system is a train wreck, lack of story makes this a complete grind etc.

the fanboys on this forum just don't bloody get it... we're gamers, we've been around the block a few times when it comes to knowing when we're being ripped off. and honestly expecting us to purchase DLC when the endgame pretty much happens in a week is just insulting our intelligence.

I was really really tempted to "Bought Destiny Just To Watch The Disk Burn" just for the lulz but i'veopted for the more serious "Good Game With Noticeable Flaws"

That is the best review I have seen of the game. And I agree 101% with everything.

It's a funny thing when you think about it. For the last few years you've had new mmos coming out and in the beginning there are large amount of people that find big flaws in the game and post on the forums or do reviews about them. You always have a subset of people that defend the game and say the other people are sheep because they happen to notice the same things as the other person that has complaints about the game. A few months down the road, the game gets drastically reduced subscriptions and turns into a "failure". The same thing happened to Too Human - that franchise was meant to around for a span of 5 or 10 years and you had the same thing happen to that game that is happening to this game. And... we all know how that turned out. So I'm kind of curious to see how Bungie responds to all the criticism they are getting about their game. Will they stick with their guns and stay with their philosophy because they have a small minority that say everything is fine which will end up making them have the same fate as all these other games? Or will they listen to the majority and make changes? I guess only time will tell.

Loot system is fine as is, rng.

For me the game as a whole is fantastic. I reserve my only constructive criticism for story mode(which still had shining moments). I really enjoyed the change up on The Sword of Crota. The later part of the mission actually being able to wield the sword and see why first hand this sword needed to be destroyed. It gave me motivation! However, most of the story mode had very little character development for my character and for many of those who were introduced. The story lacked in providing sufficient motivation; mainly because I did not feel I had a clear antagonist. I felt like a dog chasing squirrels just very unfocused. I think more cutscenes developing characters and situations would go a long way to improving the story. Overall it is a fantastic game that I will still be playing till my eyes bleed. I believe in bungie.

Dont worry im sure about five different call of duty games are coming out this month. Not like theyre repetitive too or anything.

My main gripe in the order of most annoying to least; - repetitive missions - no story, no memorable characters, no really distinctive enemy personality. - lack of enemy types - bullet sponge bosses and unimaginative boss fights except a few - loot system is pretty bad at higher levels
