Same thing happened to me, after using the same button i use clearing out my inventory for hours and opening chests and getting on the sparrow and literally everything else in the game that doesn't involve shooting, I auto pilot deleted my exotic engram. No, it does not take 5 seconds to delete these, it takes less time in fact to delete than a piece of armor or weapon. It'd be nice if they're going to create a game that imitates MMOs with a budget of $500mil to at least have a help ticket you can put in to resolve game issues. I'm assuming this forum has no official ties to bungie help, just general Q&A?

  • wrong it takes quite a few seconds to delete them similar to a ship.

I just tried to "delete" a legendary engram, it takes the same amount of time as a weapon or opening a chest. Hence if you're tired of grinding and farming and you don't realize your engram can't be opened like a chest for example, it's gone before you realize what you just did. Not sure if it's intentional or not, because yes ships do take forever to delete. I know this. But I'm not lying when I say all engrams regardless of quality are deletable in 1 second

  • why would you even try doing anything to an engram? you should know by that point that you just talk to the cryptarch and he does the work.

  • As you can see with a search, or in this thread, no one does it on purpose. My mistake was after doing the same thing over and over again in this game, I became so wrapped up in pressing and holding square down to do literally everything that doesn't include shooting, that I was so out of it when I got the engram my sleep addled brain thought I used square to open it. And coupled with the fact that it takes only 1 second to delete I didn't really have time to notice. At any rate, stop being an apologist for bad design decisions. They clearly don't want you deleting good items by accident, however engrams were left out of the equation. For as much as the game relies on them, it's a design flaw to even make them deletable, let alone have it be so quick
