The odds of running into a friend are low though I have had it happen. As for exiting the game you must admit that is a slight exaggeration. As for comms yeah bungie needs to fix its situation desperately.

Have you ever not been able to join a friend? I had it happen. He was farming glimmer on Venus alone. I tried to join, 16/16 world full. What? He joined me. We went back to Venus. The long way. Hehehe.

Although I can see problems with joining being a good possibility given what I've heard about they're server issues and maybe even going as far as looking at their random number generators backwards math as possibly more evidence of that.
