Husband+Dad+Gamer = Forced Casual.

When your one (ONE) strange coin away from buying your first exotic and your wife and kids say "let's watch Captain America: The Winter Soldier Blu-Ray!" Outside response: Suuure!
Inside response: Noooooooooooooooooooooo!!!
P.S. Special shout out to ALL the whiners who got the loot caves and Queens Wrath Legendary gear NERFED. Thanks for slowing my 6 inch a hour march to Lvl 30 to A CRAWL.

  • Sorry to break it to ya buddy. ATM, you can't reach level 30 with out raid gear. To raid you are going to need several hours to work on each part of the event. If you have a hard time grinding out one coin, then raiding is near impossiable. Send the wife and kids out for a weekeend, that should fix it...

      • there is currently no reason to be level 30 unless you want to look like everyone else or say you hit 30.

        • I feel your pain brother I'm the same so I use my vita it's really hard playing competitive multiplayer on it as everyone else on TVs has a big advantage, but to get crucible marks all you have to do is finish matches and get some points in the game.

          • Ha. TOTALLY get you. Try playing when your kids are too young to watch! Only after bed time is the rule and then there is the balance of, 'how late can I stay up considering I'm gonna have to get up at 5:30-6am to feed the little monsters (said in the most endearing loving kinda way)

          • Married. Have one year old son. Got PS4 and Destiny last night, put baby to bed at 10:30... managed to sleep a full three hours this morning before coming to work.

          • We'll never get to 30 :) not with kids. I can barely scrape enough time together to open the vault, let alone finish it before another marching order comes.

          • I was round my friends the other week checking out Destiny on the PS4 before I bought it. The catch was that he was supposed to be looking after his daughter. Fortunately though, she isn't old enough to understand that the controller she was holding to 'play the game with us' was actually an unplugged PS3 controller.

            • Signed and agreed. Every time I sit down to play for 5 minutes my wife needs me to do something. Granted we have a 7 month old, and she likes sitting in my lap watching me play or reaching for the controller.

                • LOL too true, I have an 8 month old baby boy and a wife that feels lonely if I play any longer than 2 hours. Its definitely challenging to progress when you gotta go to work, play with the kids, and play with the wife...but man is it fun :)

                • My wife is super cool about me playing. She'll just sit next to me on her phone or lap top playing on facebook or something. My kids on the other hand, LOL. I only play with other dads mostly so when I go afk, in a strike they usually say "dirty diaper?" Lolol. Ya I take breaks, I change my baby. Make them food. Make sure they're still breathing. Sometimes my kids are being really cute and I just play with them for a while in the middle of the raid. (Hey they need attention too) But luckily in my situation I can still get a solid couple of hours or more everyday.

                  • I feel your pain, Dad. Even when they are asleep, and there is time to play, you have to spend time with the cryptarch you married too. If the "cryptarch" isn't happy, ain't no one happy... And you can forget about getting some epic "loot".

YESSSS a dad post, I'm in the same boat dude. The wife doesn't understand games and the daughter plays (she's only 3) you can tell when she's assisting cause a void grenade will just strike a wall for no reason haha Wouldn't change any of it though Gaming is now my last priority but I still manage to get a fair bit done DADS OF DESTINY!

                        • They shouldnt have nerfed the farming as they did, considering its the only time I got anything worth my time, even though it was the most boring thing. I really think bungie did not think their reward system through.

                        • As someone in your exact shoes (married 18 years, 3.5 yr old son, full time job), I'm reminded of something my father taught me when I was very young. "If it's important, you make time." How important is it to you? If it's more important than watching Netflix with the wife and kid, then send them packing to the bedroom. (Putting the old PS3 in the bedroom with the PS4 in the living room or vice-versa does wonders for multi-tasking these things.) Or just realize that your time with wife and kid is more important than virtual objects in a virtual world that never really existed in the first place and will be history in 10 years. Then shrug it off and laugh at time given to things that never existed in the first place. Or compromise. Watch that movie, kiss the family goodnight, then stay up til 3 am. Cause you'll definitely sleep when you're dead. But nothing about having limited play time means you're a casual. Casual is about how you approach the game time you do have. Casual is about not accepting the challenges when they're staring you in the face. Casual is taking the easy way out at the loot cave because running missions and fighting the good fight in the Crucible might mean less virtual toys. Suck it up. Play all night, work all day. Train your kids how to have some discipline in both working hard and playing hard too.

                              • I hear ya! Constantly sharing the tv with wife and 10 month old here at home is rough. Plus the Army stationed me in Germany so the time difference makes it a challenge to play with all my buddies back home.
