There is no difference between the physical and digital copies of Destiny, except that they reside on different physical media. Your game data is saved on Bungie's servers and is keyed to your PSN or Xbox account. If you started your game on a physical disc copy and then went to the digital one, there would be no difference as long as you stayed on the same platform using the same login account. So long answer short, YES, you could just continue where you left off.

Okay, stupid bungie backed outta my reply. Here it is again. But short story, it worked. I had installed Destiny from hard copy to my 360. So, after not letting me back up Destiny data to anywhere, I decided to roll the dice and deleted the install, removed the CD from my 360, bought the digital download for 360 for another $60. It installed no problems, and when I ran Destiny it went to the Orbit screen and all my character info was there. So far so good! I shut down the 360, started the XBox One, went to games, went to Destiny, the INSTALL option was available, it installed on the XBox One no problems, for no charge, and when I started Destiny, it went right to the Orbit screen with all my character info. So, it does work, it just costs you another $60, but I'm giving my copy to a poorer than myself XBox 360 friend, so it saved SOMEONE $60. Pass it forward I guess? But it works. Since you're looking at spending another $60 anyway, might as well get a little back in good karma, or find someone to buy it from you and get a little back in cash.

Edited by SilentKnight11: 9/18/2014 8:00:03 PMApparently my response was double posted somehow.

your game data is stored online with Bungie it will transfer across to your other console I have it on Both Consoles my self hope this helps
-
So it shouldn't matter what format I have the game in ??
-
No it has to be within the same console family (can go 360 to one back and forth or PS3 to PS4 back and forth)

Edited by Gunz381: 9/18/2014 7:01:13 PMYes I understand that . . . what I'm saying is.. I am playing the game on the 360 from the actual game disc... When I buy the Xbox One and play destiny (using same Xbox live account) will my progress still be there ??

-
Awesome... Thanks
-
So how do you do it?
-
How do you do what Paul??
-
transfer your game and data to xbox one from 360, do you need a digital copy for 360 to do it? and how do you go about the transfer?
-
From what I'm understanding, character data is stored on Bungies servers... So as long as you use the same Xbox Live account as you did on the 360, your character will be there.
-
You might want to search on Bungie's forums for instructions on how to transfer your character from Xbox 360 to Xbox One. The issue is not your game data, but the license that allows you to access this content. Even though you can have two copies, one for the 360 and one for the Xbox One, the license limits you to one active install. The digital editions come with bonus digital content and the Destiny Pass that will allow you to download two future game expansions. Those cannot be shared between the two consoles. They can only reside on one. Now having said that, if you were to upgrade from your 360 digital copy to the Xbox One, your 360 copy could still work, but probably not on the same account that you're using on the Xbox One. If you create a new XBL or PSN account, then I imagine you can have both digital copies running, just under different accounts with different characters.

so if I bought a hard disc copy of destiny for xbox one. my character files, expansions packs and data would all be accessable? that's all I would have to do?
-
Yea... You'd just have to pay for the game I guess. Us idiots that actually bought the hard copy are -blam!-ed for upgrading for free
-
haha I just like actually having a disc in my hands, I don't like the idea of digital downloads, call me old fashioned

Edited by mikelimtw: 9/22/2014 7:19:13 PMYeah, I know what you mean, but the future is digital. Look at what Netflix did to brick and mortar video rental stores like Blockbuster. You probably already don't think twice about streaming Netflix video on demand, so why should this be any different for a game? The biggest limitations in the past were first storage and then bandwidth to download this content. But now, both storage and broadband access are cheap. Digital allows publishers to save money on distribution, which is why on the digital editions of Destiny you were given nice bonus digital content and an upgrade path to the newer consoles. There's a lot of advantages to going digital. It's environmentally friendly: you don't have all the plastic boxes and discs that eventually get disposed into landfills, and you don't waste gas and pollute the atmosphere driving to and from the game store. Choice and selection also improves with digital since it doesn't take up physical shelf space. The biggest game store in the world wouldn't ever be able to physically stock and offer for sale every title available on a particular console, but that is something that can be done in digital format. I'm actually looking forward to the digital revolution.

Bungie Keep all data on there servers you can Switch between the two at any time however you can only be logged into one console at a time with Destiny upside tho you don't need to re get the Achievements ^_^

I did the same thing, wasn't paying attention that the digital download was the only way to upgrade free. If your stats and character info is stored with bungie, then that would allow me to delete Destiny from my 360, buy the digital download version BACK to the 360, then I can (in this case) give that copy to someone else, and in the end get both versions and someone else can save $60 not having to buy it for their 360. Since I'm looking at NOW having to buy the XBox one version. I was thinking about this but didn't want to have to "start over" again. Still, my fear is it isn't that easy, I'm going to lose everything, and have to start all over. I guess I could back up game data to a memory stick just in case?

I was thinking of doing the same thing . . anyone try this successfully??
