Just wondering if there are people out there that realize that what we've played so far.. that 20+ hours you've put into this game so far is only the beginning? That the reason the "story" is lacking is because there really isn't one right now on purpose?
This is where I stopped, and actually its a great metaphor for how to sell a story. You see, if you can't convince people to read the rest of your narrative in the first few sentences, they wont. Same with a story. If you can't, from the first few pages or in this case, "20+ hours", to continue playing...they wont. We need grip, we need emotional investment. I want to know how "Chief" Survives, how he gets home, how he wins the war. This is the first story that sold Halo, why I've bought everyone thus far...if I cant get invested in Destiny's story...why would I continue it? General question.

  • Halo was one game. One self contained, point to point story. Destiny isn't. It's an ever expanding universe. Not one 10hour story.

That doesn't matter. Destiny is a product, period. If You can't convince people to buy the next one through some sort of investment, they wont. And you never answered the question:
if I cant get invested in Destiny's story...why would I continue it?
And this is a general question. I'm still playing, I'm still learning the story. Don't try and convince me...try and convince the guy who's lvl 25+ who doesn't see a story worth continuing because "that story" will take another 3 years to get here. Books, stories, games...they're not "Fundme" projects. They're "Read me" "playme" products. And if you want me to buy the next one, I better enjoy THIS one. Marketing 101, heck, its a prerequisite.

  • A week into a game projected to extend for 10years and you want convincing to buy the next game... seems a tad bit ridiculous...

Timeframe doesn't matter. What I'm wanting is a full game that convinces me to buy the next. DLC has become common place, that's not the argument either. But DLC should not make up for the bulk of an item. That's like buying a box and expecting the actual item to come later. No one bought Halo 1 expecting it to last 10 years, they bought Halo cus it was a full Game. And you can't expect the general public to happily buying an "I.O.U." Again, you still have not answered my Question:
if I cant get invested in Destiny's story...why would I continue it?
I totally understand you're trying to defend Bungie & Destiny and I respect you for it. But players want Content when they buy a product, not "to be delivered" but when they buy it. If you're happy with the Content as is, Im sure you'll buy the next one...but has Bungie convinced the general public that there's enough content "out of Box" to buy into their program? That's the question.

  • If you can't get into Destiny's story that a personal problem. I couldn't get into Skyrim's story but I doubt it was probably a great game. Just not for me.

I certainly can. I love narrative in story & game and Bungie has been no stranger to a good host of tales. I simply spoke as Devil's advocate for a community that I have seen comment quite negatively thus far. Adieu, With Respect.

  •
You see, if you can't convince people to read the read the rest of your narrative in the first few sentences, they wont.
Totally agree. Yet, complaining about it is just as effective as writing to an author of a book telling him what you wanna see added in the next book they write. The author is gonna write what he wants to write because he's the author and he tells the story the way he wants to. Bungie is an Author. People telling Bungie that they need to rewrite the story and hire new actors is just dumbfounding me. Bungie is writing it the way they want and maybe this is the intro they wanted. My guess is they didn't want to reveal too much because there's a massive twist and giving too big of an intro would just spoil it or make it too obvious. Bungie is telling us a story. The purpose of the story isn't to satisfy us with great acting and perfect lines. Because sometimes the best stories don't have these. People who think otherwise just want a story fed to them. they don't care to dig deep into it, they just want something to pass the time with.
The author is gonna write what he wants to write because he's the author and he tells the story the way he wants to. Bungie is an Author.
Exceptionally true words. As is the plight of Artists in the world, they paint what they want. However...when you're trying to sell something, some of the finest authors go unnoticed & great artists are never known in their time. Not every book is a best seller...and there are plenty of starving artists. The rules change when you're trying to sell something. Its no longer just want you want...but those whom you plan to sell to.

  • I see your point. And I guess I was thinking from the point of view where we lived in a perfect world where people didn't judge books by their covers. However, whether or not we live in such a world adding in stuff which you originally didn't want in the story just to get everyone to buy it just takes away from it, it doesn't add to it. Right now i feel fine with the story, and the next few story mission expansions should tell me whether or not it's going be good or bad. I just think everyone should wait as well and stop complaining about something which is clearly not finished.
