Not a chance you will see this. Bungie designed all the hand cannons for primary use. That is why they are so powerful and damaging. They devour any enemy you see if you know how to use them. I personally like the fact that they did this.

Make a lower damage full auto rifle special weapon then? Or a quick change menu, I don't know. It's not like the shotguns or sniper rifles aren't as beefed up as the hand canons. I'm just bummed you can't switch between the two types without a menu screen. I love the feed back, I'm just surprised people aren't with this. I know destiny is one of a kind but I still would like the option.
