I think a small prologue scene where you experience the war at the gates before dying would have worked well. It would mean we actually experience the horror of watching the last cities fall with our last breath. Then have us wake up to the rusted remains. As is I feel the same way. We could have gotten more incentive being able to see the darkness killing innocents and trashing our home world. Still a great story but presented very thinly.

  • The potential for a decent story is there. The telling of the prologue definitely falls short and is face palm worthy. A better intro would help but actual continuity, coherence, emotion and investment on the part of the audience (required of story telling) will take more than your good idea for an opener. Metro Last Light and 2033 for example get you invested in Artum almost immediately but Destiny - no, can't say that about Destiny. I can recommend and defend this game in MANY ways but two things I can't defend or recommend is 1- the story as it is poorly told and 2 - the complete and utter lack of social tools and support PARTICULARLY no use of a UNIVERSAL MATCHMAKING SYSTEM.

  • Opening idea might be a great cut scene or extra mission as a look back epilogue. I like that idea about seeing what happened just before you die.

No gamer will forget the sickly twisted Captain Keeys nor the iconic act of an Elite's energy sword being thrust through a human. It is imperative that players have a clear antagonist to oppose, that's how you have the conflict. The only thing I've seen the darkness do (aside from a few bodies on the moon) is inhabit Earth, that's it, I've yet to see any terrible acts against humanity. And yes I understand they pushed us back to one last city but that's just war, which we wage on each other. Show me them glassing planets or something so i don't feel as bad killing so many when I grind.

  • I don't think we have even seen the darkness yet. This is just my opinion, but why would all the darkness factions be fighting one another? The way I see it, the fallen are scavengers following in the wake of the darkness, feeding off the husks of dead planets. The hive are parasites that feed on the residual energy the darkness left behind. The vex seem to need the darkness and the light to power their tech, so obviously they will follow both in order to advance. The only one I can't really comment on is the cabal, since I don't know their motivations. Sadly the story does nothing to confirm or deny theories, or even point us in a direction. It would have benefitted the game greatly if they did an interactive scene(like the final survival mission in reach) leading up to your first death, and your inevitable resurrection. I don't know, there were some obviously missed opportunities.

perhaps all races are fugitives because of the darkness and the solar system was their only place to settle? Or they are slave-species like the Collector's in Mass Effect and actually fight against their Will? Why else did the Fallen accept the Queen of the Awoken as their new Leader of the House of Wolves? Why do i ask? Bungie has to tell! ASAP
