Uhm.. I'm sorry? What story are you talking about? I've played this whole game but never found one..
I'm serious. I don't know why I am killing all those poor creatures I meet on earth, moon, venus and mars. As far as I know they could be just aggressiv and attack me on sight because they fear for their lives! I mean it. I never saw these creatures to do anything wrong. They are just walking around, enjoying the weather.. and then my guardian appears and everything dies a horrible, surely painfull, death.
That's my biggest issue with this game (after "Error Code: Bee"). I never got this "This is the last city on earth and we have to defend/protect it!"-feeling. I don't even know this city or it's name. All I know is the tower.. and even from the tower I've only seen it's roof. There are no NPC's telling you what's going on.. all NPC's you meet are the ones on the towers roof, that Exo-lady and those two awoken people from the rift. I totally do not know what's going on in "my" city. is it in danger? Is it 24/7 under attack by someone or something? Why are the different alien factions fighting each other? Aren't they this "darkness" that wiped almost everything humanity ever build out? How did they do that if they always fight each other?
.. and why the hell looks most human technology you encounter in this game like something from 1980-2010? Cars and airplanes look like the ones we use right now. Computers look very often like the ones from the 80s.
I don't even know why I destroyed that weird thing in the black garden. Honestly I don't even know how I destroyed it. I shot something else, this weird thing got depressed and decided it's time to implode?
A few more cutscenes and dialoges would have been good for this games story mode. At least that's my opinion.

If I could like this post a hundred times I would. Also I keep seeing the fallen drop their rifles when I kill them, why can't I pick up a gun that shoots tracking rounds? Glimmer can alter itself to whatever so ammo wouldn't be a problem

The cars and airplanes look like ones we use now because they are. They story is that they're from the collapse, when humanity was nearly destroyed. That's why the cars and planes look old; in the game, they're ancient.

Umm, No! The Collapse happened AFTER the Golden Age the Traveler ushered in. The Traveler gave us high technology, Warp Speed Space travel, and the ability to Teraform other planets to be habitable for human life...He's right, there should not be modern day wreckage on Earth. It should have been futuristic wreckage.

except you made one big flaw here (I made it too). You're trying to use logic from our universe, when destiny is in a different universe all together. This isn't our universe in the future, it's a whole different thing, just the same general setting. This means that the technology at the point of the collapse very well could be from the wreckage we see.

Quote from the Speaker "Human lifespans tripled" that means that the Golden lasted several hundred years at least. NASA found the Traveler on Mars in 2014. They had tech similar to what we have today. So by your logic you're saying that in their Universe they choose to keep 21st Century airplane and automobile designs around for hundreds of years while the rest of their technology advanced a hundred fold?

No, I'm saying that it's all very possible that this is a different universe. We already know there is no traveler on Mars, as we have many robots who have searched it. This means that the events in destiny are taking place in a different universe, with a different earth and a different solar system. Therefor, the NASA we here of in destiny could be a different NASA from what we know of today.

It's a very common storyline method used by companies. Unless you have proof that this takes place in our universe, and not a parallel one, this is a perfectly valid explanation.

That is a good observation .If the traveler ushered in a golden age....Shouldn't our technology been more advance? I understand that we found the traveler in 2014 but doesn't explain the ruins of earth having the same tech.

Sometimes I think Bungie may have changed Destinys story while the game was almost completed. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the golden age was 700 years long, wasn't it? In fact, humanity now owns hyberdrives, holo-projectors, teleportation-technologies, this fancy "I make something out of nothing"-technologie, sparrows and a lot more. But the technologie you encounter outside of "the last city" still looks like something from the 20. century. On venus and mars most things were fine, in my opinion. Both cities there looked at least as if they could belong in some sort of sci-fi universe. I can't say the same about russia and the moon. I've seen a lot of asian symbols on moon, so I guess that's some former asian territory we've visited there. Maybe there has been some conflict and humanities golden age didn't affect every country out there? I hope Bungie will later come up with some explanation. because right now there are a lot of things on every world that look a little bit out of place.

The only thing I can think of is that Russia was wiped out by a nuclear war prior to The Travelers arrival, and they just never rebuilt it during the Golden Age because of nuclear fallout? It is odd though and never explained.

I guess that's why they always advertised this game with "become legend". I always wondered why they keep quiet about this games story for so long. There wasn't much to tell anyway, that's why they stuck to "become legend".. and honestely? I don't even know what that's supposed to mean :D I really love this games gameplay, sounds and visuals.. but this game has one of the worst storylines I've ever seen in my life. Even Diablo 3 has more story and explanations to offer then Destiny..

At least someone must have build him in the first place. I think he is some sort of weapon (a death star :P) that went rogue and that this is the reason that "darkness" is following him. Maybe he is some sort of Vex construct.. They build gardens that exist outsite of time and space.. maybe they once thought it's funny to build a death star :) Would have been nice for the story if we actually could see how he protected earths last city and how he got damaged. This would have been such a great intro. Those evel forces do their Covenent thing from Halo, only earth is left and then the Traveler makes his last stand on earth. This would have given us at least some sort of connection to this whole world.. and an awesome cutscene :D

We will see that when Bungie makes the fourth game a prequel as part of a deal to leave Destiny with Activision and move on to a new IP. (In before the trolls, this was obviously just a joke, see Bungie's history with MS lol) (p.s. I loved Halo Reach)

Well said. I even googled this shit to figure out why I was killing all these things and what their deal was. Apparently the internet has no idea either. The dialogue is cheesy as hell too. Bethesda would have crushed this game. Can't wait for the new fallout so I can get my plot fix.

A lot of times when I played Destiny I thought "something like this game in the Fallout universe would be awesome!". But I still hope that they are going to expand this whole universe soon.. and for free. I guess they underestimated the fact, that people want to know what's going on in this game. It's not all about loot. Even in Diablo 3 I was curious about the games story and how all the npc's in my camp would evolve during my journey. Stuff like this gave me a connection to this game. In Destiny there is loot.. and I don't care that much about it. It's gameplay is fun but without any kind of story..? I don't know.. it's just like something is mission in this game. Those quest dialogues (beacons) are btw so weird. They are eveything but immersive. "We have something to do for your. Ask your ghost, because we wont talk to lowlifes like you" is it.. always. Even in World of Warcraft you got at least some context why you had to kill millions of wolfs all the time.. and some dialogue :-/

I honestly was not aware that the story was completed until I went back to orbit and tried to find the next mission. It was so anti-climactic.
