You know, I like how people appear to be all cool and call everyone person who has something negative to say about the game whiners and what not. But the truth is that by accepting whatever a game developer does, there could be some serious backlashes. How can a sober minded consumer be OK with a company selling you a portion of the product at full price and then sell you the rest at additional cost, and at the same time say "thank you, more please!"? That's telling everybody else in the industry they can do the same. Bungie announced the first dlc one month before the game was even released and inside the box, there's an ad telling you about 2 dlcs you can purchase in a few months. That's actually pretty ridiculous, it's like going to a car dealership and look at some sedans and they all only come with the driver seat and when they tell you that its fully equipped and you would say that's more than I expected. Then the salesman tells you that oh by the way, you can buy another seat to put on your right, so you can bring a friend along and as time goes you'll be able fill the back to with seats so you can take a maximum of 5 people, and that just blows your mind because you think it's just an amazing deal and buy that car with only 1 seat for yourself. I believe that gamers as a community should not be OK with this, because things are only going to get worse. We need to call it as it is, we shouldn't be OK with contents being held back and pushed out as dlcs. But instead we're defending these cooperation's who's main goal is to make money, and tell them sure give us less for the same price and sell the rest to us later.

  • By this logic, we wouldn't be playing this game until 2020 or layer since your entitled to all the Dlc that is rightfully yours lol. I can agree with the story being pretty damn short and kinda of shitty if they plan to release more of it through Dlc but complaining about content they worked after their main game is finished is.....annoying.

  • Um... This is supposed to be a ten year engagement, and that would be like 5 games, one every two years. Think of the expansions like Harry Potter or Lord of the rings, or star wars... Sequels or continuations.

  • Except the first "sequel" was written and developed before this chapter was ever shipped. The "sequel" will be out before this game has been in the stores for six months. I agree. It is pretty damned shady.

  • Ok let's just go back to the days of Nintendo 64 then. We can have the same graphics we did back then and everything can be single player or split screen co-op. Cause of you only want to pay $60 bucks for a game then that's about as much work as the developers will be able to afford. Making games multiplayer online requires extra coding and testing to make sure there's no game breaking bugs. One again please use your brains. No one works for free, they need money to pay their employees. Stupid people are stupid.

I would expect wayyyyyyyy more then a average online shooter. Halo 3 costs them 65 miljon. Putting shit in perspective 😂

  • You do realize the 500 million is for the entire 10 year project, Destiny, the 3 sequels, all the dlc, ect... and that includes all the promoting and advertising as well. It's not just 500 million for a single game developed. Gotta love the wonderful misinformation of the internet.

Yeah, there are a lot of things that get lost in translation due to hype. The original contract was actually pitched to Microsoft as well, and they turned Bungie down, saying it was too much to invest in an original IP. An old version of the contract (due to some court disputes about certain things) is out there online for the public to view. I'm sure the deal they worked out with Activision isn't the exact same as that pitch, but probably pretty similar. Edit: I'm sure some of the choice of Microsoft rejecting the contract had to do with Bungie wanting to develop for multiple systems as well, and not just for Xbox anymore.

  • You got way more. Just not in story. This isn't a single payer game that has a complete story at launch. It's not even many to be a complete game. As many others have said they want a reason to keep you around. If they give you everything at once what's the reason? Anyway I'm done. Stupid people are stupid.

Activision is behind all this.. but i still keep bungie responsible for not having balls... 500.000.000 dollars!!!!!!!!! Do u even know how many that is? Tjis games looks like 70.000.000 max.

  • 500 million deal for the 10 year franchise, they did not blow 500 million on this one game.

  • I'm not saying I agree. Big business is horrible but I'm still gonna play video games so they win. To be fair this looks like 150-250 mil. Consider the amount of time and manpower required to code and test every bit of game that allows multiple players to be in the same area as you at the same time. It's a massive undertaking.

  • Not to mention, like I just told the other guy, the 500 million is for the entire 10 year project, Destiny, it's 3 sequels, the DLC, the networks for the always online servers, and even cost for promoting/advertising. The game is extremely fun, and even moreso with friends, and the amount of hours you can put into it (if you do more than just the small campaign) makes it far more than worth the $60. Besides, the campaign, albeit small, is still longer than 95% of all other FPS. Unlike other FPS, they made a game with quality repeat gameplay for both cooperative, and competitive style players. Is Destiny perfect, hell no. Is it great fun with lots of replayability, hell yeah! Shouldn't that be what matters?

i dont disagree, but thats the world we live in. bungies main goal is PROFIT, plain and simple. they know yuppies like us will buy it, even 95% of the people that are complaining in this thread. i have spent $60 on games with far less content than What Destiny offers you with your first $60 investment. and they want the franchise to have staying power, not just burn out in 2-3 months. yes it may be "wrong" of them to stagger releasing content they already have completed, but this isnt fantasy island. if a company sees an opportunity to maximize their profit, they are going to do so. in corporate america its the most ingenious idea next to only using real money to buy in game currency(or things of that nature- see any EA sports game). its a broken record with this subject for me by now, but if you dont like their business tactics, dont buy the game, or at least not the DLC, since i can safely assume you have purchased the game already. care to wager on whether or not you will buy the DLC when it releases? Bungie wins. rant all you want while they are busy counting their money. bc hey, its all about the benjamins. big business has no moral code to speak of. least of all in the entertainment industry. a great man once said, "If you build it, they will come" party time, excellent.

  • Dude, what are you smoking? You do realize your attempts at analogies are a train wreck, right? Your point about the time to develop the material is moot, because the material was completed before This episode ever shipped. If anything loses market share to 343, it will be this kind of shady business. Screwing over loyal consumers is the most surefire way to lose them.

  • "Loyal" is a loose term for all the people who bash the game and demand more. Boy that sure sounds loyal. Yeah it was short, yeah I want more information, but waiting 7 days in between regular content is a small price to pay. I hate waiting for my favorite tv show every week but it make Sundays more enjoyable. That being said I love the hell out of this game. Grouping with my friends, chatting, striking, and tea bagging in the crucible. This game is like pizza. And pizza is like fornication. Even when's it's bad, it's still really good

  • Loyal as in I bought an XBOX for Halo, I upgraded to the 360 for Halo 3. I currently own Every Bungie Halo release. Want to do the math on that investment, asshat?

  • Nice red herring there, numbnuts. You lost your point, so you attempt to create a false issue to chase instead. You are a feeble minded dipshit. You are not worth my time, nor that of any other member of these forums. Taking your pathetic attempts to reformulate an argument you have already lost.

  • I think the problem stems from the ridiculously high cost of developing games. Personally, I think that stuff like Minecraft proves that you don't need to spend a fortune on graphics. If the game is solid, people will play it.

  • But you have to admit the graphics are nice to have. It just comes down to how much you're willing to pay for it. If enough people decide to stop buying the high end games the price will go up enough to where even those willing to spend a bit more will say "Not worth it". I personally hope we never get there while there are some decent indie games I really can't get into that many any longer.

  • Sure, but sometimes I think that the push is going to continue towards the highest end possible graphics and gameplay will continue to be a #2 on the list of priorities. I think that there should be an acceptable ceiling for graphics and I hope we get to point where that ceiling is cheap to reach and the bulk of the budget can be spent on fleshing out the gameplay and storylines. Too few games pay close attention to story anymore for my tastes. I long for the kind of experience that playing Mass Effect for the first time can evoke.

  • Agreed. Consumers bypass this kind of thing. It, like buying a new fishing rod and being told the ferrules to hold the line are an option. It looks like like mutations are being hyped as features here.
