it's because the raids are so hard. They are a super big challenge to people who know eachother well, so for a group of strangers they'd be near impossible. If bungie made matchmaking, then people would complain about how hard the raids are. They would nearly never complete them and whine, resulting in a nerf. This would make it easy for other players who know eachother well.

Except you have companies like IGN that can just tell six employees, "You six. Go raid!" When those six need a break, all they do is hand a controller off to six fresh employees and lather, rinse, repeat. They can do that, but we can't have in-game matchmaking? No. We have to go to forums, Facebook groups, websites like TWCFTM, and random 'Add me' posts from people on this very app in order to play. I love this game, but sometimes I don't like it.

The company isn't a consumer, it's a company. They get that advantage. I wish we had matchmaking too, but I understand why not.
