No Matchmaking for Endgame Raids? Buh Bye, Destiny....

Sorry, but this is the deal breaker for me and millions of others I've seen flaming this incredibly poor decision. First off, THIS IS NOT AN MMO. It lacks all the things you need to get a good judge of who you are raiding with as well and has no way to meet people. Second, even if I DID want to meet randoms, how can I? No public chat, no way to communicate at all, no way to do anything except "dance" or "wave". I've heard their lead developer "defend" this decision, as all out-of-touch executives do. "Our raids are so hard, you'll NEED 6 people that are friends blah blah blah". Sorry, but a "hard" raid doesn't always add up to an enjoyable experience. Are these raids harder than the legendary MMO raids that grouped strangers in raids for decades? Doubt it. And please stop making us sound like antisocial losers for wanting to try it with strangers. You guys at Bungie sound like an overbearing dungeon master in D&D and it's really poor form, especially since every Destiny forum is filled with "LFG" posts for VoG. Now, what you've done is put the nail in the coffin for 99% of your user base. I've been in love with this game up until yesterday, when I realized that even with my fancy legendary and exotic weapons, all I could do without 5 other "friends" was the same old lvl 24 strike for the millionth time. Not much fun. The same levels and the same bosses over and over just with higher levels? So much potential wasted by people who have no idea what people really want. 6/10 right now, just like to rest of the world is saying. Hoping for improvement. Great gameplay, but not much else to keep its hooks in you. Everything else looks like it was done by the MMO B Team. PvP needs work too, but that will come in time I'm sure. Gonna miss the game, but what's the point in playing when you are already grinding repetitively in the first week and there's no change on the horizon? ALSO, please explain to me how LFG posts on random forums are a batter way to do this than adding matchmaking? STILL random people. Not friends, just people without 5 active friends (just like me) who want to do the content. Silly if you ask me. UPDATE: So I took the advice of those saying "I have poor social skills in games" (let's ignore the irony in that for a second) and started adding random people that were good in Strikes, people I met, whatever. Added over 50 people in the past few days. And guess what? Maybe 5 of them are online at a time. Even in the clans I 'm in. And out of those 5, maybe ONE will answer when I send a message to raid. Maybe. With no social tools, no public chat, no clan management, and these "incredibly hard raids" that Bungie seems to be SO proud of, they've essentially pissed off many people instead of making this fun for anyone. First off, what is the point of making a raid THAT hard? Does it make your developer epeen stiffen up to see people wipe 1,600 times? Pandemonium was like that in FFXI and it was a laughing stock. Nobody liked it. And second, where is the other content for those of us who don't have 15+ hours to raid per week? There are no other dungeons/raids besides the ones on repeat in strikes. Boring. Even WoW had at least a half dozen random dungeons you could so between levels 40-60 at launch. They also had numerous mobs instead of 4 factions with 4 different mobs in each. I'm now level 27. More than adequately geared for a raid. Strikes are the most mundane thing ever now, since I've done them so many times. I've farmed for legendary engrams, I've gotten rep up with several factions. I've got some exotic weapons (though none of them are that great outside of pvp - shotguns, etc.). I'm literally pretty much out of stuff to do and it's only been a week. Yes, I play a lot, but come on. There should be at least something to do other than grind. Aside from Ascendant Shards, there's not much more I need to increase my gear anyway. And where's my motivation to increase it when I can easily kill everything EXCEPT what's in the raid which I can't find people for? Also, Bungie, if you're going to be this obtuse about our player abilities, then at least add some sort of clan management system in game. Why does the game with the biggest budget ever still have us posting "LFG for VoG": on random forums? Why do we need to leave game to even see what our own clan is doing? And why are we supposed to get hyped about the next xpac when we can't even enjoy this one? I bet maybe 1% of the player pop has even tried VoG. Nobody wants to even give it a shot now because it's so hard. I'm sure I'll continue to get flamed on this post by kids younger than some of the dents in my car, but the fact remains that this game, although an epic achievement, has missed the mark entirely on what it needs to keep people involved for more than a month. Sure, it's a new game, but the old "new games are always lacking, buggy, etc." argument is no longer valid. Only in the gaming industry is this acceptable and it needs to stop. You have $500,000,000 invested in this. Surely you could have taken .0001% of that to hire decent writers and some immersion? Wishful thinking I guess... I really hope a Bungie dev reads this and takes it to heart, but they won't. So, I guess I'll just hold my breath in the hopes that they are aware of how unhappy everyone is and do something about it. I love this game and I see so much potential in it. But for god's sake, PLEASE stop trying to reinvent the wheel at every turn. Some things just work. Leave them be and put more effort into decent writing and immersion. This game will never live up to its potential without it.

  • Matchmaking really should be implemented. I get that it's ZOMG so hard yew guyz! But for a game where most of the content is farming loot, grinding and end game content, it's counter-intuitive to make the raids out of reach to people who aren't hardcore raiders. To me, it's content in a game I paid for and I want to experience it but I don't want to have to hung down a group, spend 40 hours a week being chained to the raid - I have a heroic raid group in another game and we aren't even that masochistic. Most games have realized that gamers are casually hardcore but apparently not Bungie. :(

I forgot to add this valid point. Bungie catered to young men with halo 12 years ago. And as time went on they released halo 1-5 or such. Now 12 years later alot of those 20 yo are married have kids jobs etc. Why alienate them? They've bern loyal. Last time i checked cash is king and over ten years I'll probably drop 1000 over dc etc on destiny. Now multiply that by at least 50k dad's etc that's 5 mil. If Bungie is willing to alienate 5 mil that's one he'll of a business model

      • How about matchmaking for raids but reduce the rewards to lvl20 strike equivalent and possibly tone the difficulty down a bit. That way everyone has a easy time to experience the content but only the elite get the rewards of doing the raid as Bungie envisioned it. Tbh I personally am not phased if I dont get to experience the absolute highest bit of PVE content when there us so much more to do in Destiny.

      • You said bungie thinks we are "antisocial"... Well, if you have been asking people and getting ignored it sounds like they are right, and did you not plan ahead with friends for this game? I know I did, I had a team of 5 before the beta even came out ffs, granted I don't personally know you but you sound like a bitchy person who wouldn't be very fun to play with. Take this for what it is, a stranger telling you how you show yourself. and yes, the game could use more content, I will give you that.

        • While I don't like blasting bungie as I have been a fan since day one of the original halo I would have to admit you pretty much hit the nail on the head here, I love this game I really do, but there does need to be a type of level equal match making for people who want to do the vault of glass I have also added over 40 people in the last week all met in destiny and most of them are around level 24-26 but none of them have the 8 hours it take to do the vault of glass. Meaning I'll probably never get to do it, this game rewards you for having NO LIFE, I play what I would consider to be more than most but this game rewards people who only do this almost all day. They disappointed me. HOWEVER this all can be fixed, so whether I keep the game 2-3 months down the road is entirely up to bungie I really hope they start listening to the voices of reason in these forums. Love you bungie

          • It'd be nice IF you like getting matched up with scrubs who don't even WANT to learn the raid. Every match made raid would be comprised of people wanting to get CARRIED. I can't relate to your complaint.

            • Didn't get to read through everything, but: Apparently they're working on adding optional communication to public places, like the Tower and in Strikes/Crucible. Hopefully this will alleviate some of the matchmaking problem, if they don't add that feature. :)

                • Hey guys. I really like this game. It is a load of fun and I enjoy almost 95% of it but I am afraid this game will die and lose a lot players in the next month if changes are not made. Here is a list of my complaints with Destiny. 1. Private Matches - I am a huge Gamebattles player. If I am not able to even play private matches to explore maps, play private matches with friends, and play gamebattles, then I will eventually leave the game sooner rather than later and move on to something that allows me to play competitively. 2. Amount of special weapon ammo on the maps in Crucible. -I'm a rank 2 crucible player and have come to the conclusion the game is broken with the amount of special ammo in crucible. Players can literally run around with a shotgun and do massive damage and they don't have to have any skill. The shotgun either needs to be nerfed or they need to reduce the amount of special ammo on each map. If the shotgun is going to be a one hit kill from 5 feet away then my sniper rifle needs to by a one hit kill in the body. 3. Fix the Forums -Right now the forums are to sloppy and unorganized. I'm afraid this post won't even be seen and be shuffled through like everything else because of the mass posts on the forums. Please add Crucible, Raids, Strikes, Campaign, and anything else relevant as sub forums in the Destiny forum to have a much more organized and easy navigation system to communicate with players better. And do this with all of your forums Bungie to be more organized. 4. Bungie doesn't listen to its players -My last complaint is that Bungie is not listening to its players right now. If the majority is saying there needs to be changes then make the changes Bungie or at least come out with news saying youre working on it! This goes back to my opening statement. If Bungie continues to allow public opinion one ear and out the other then they will continue to lose players and the game will eventually die. You may all think i'm crazy but with the amount of games coming out by the end of this year on next gen consoles and PC, Destiny will not be on top for much longer. Please listen to my complaints Bungie and fix these two simple things pronto before I leave Destiny like many other people are beginning to do. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks, ThePapaGamer

                  • I agree completely. I have 1 buddy I play online with because I have a job, a wife and son, and other non-gamer friends I spend time with... basically a life. The same is true for my friend. It can be a little challenging for us to find free time at the same time to play a game and we don't have 4 other friends who have a PS4, have Destiny, and free time at the same time as us. I really feel screwed over by Bungie. The most challenging, and possibly fun, parts of the game are inaccessible to me because I don't have enough friends. I have loved playing Destiny. Building my 2 characters up to level 26 was a blast and I just might do it a third time with the last character class I haven't played, but beyond that there is nothing left for me. I am definitely NOT buying a season pass for this game because I don't know if I will actually be able to play the content. When I first got my hands on Destiny I thought I would be playing it until Christmas... but now I think I'll be done with it by the time Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel come out next month.

                    • You NEED a good team with a ton of communication... Simply matching up with random people that may not have a mic or the proper gear won't cut it. I got a team of 6 and we did really good last night in the raid, because we communicated. Its not an easy raid.

                      • O.K. I'm going to try and keep this post as to the point as I can. In short I find both sides (Bungie vs Engaged Fans) have valid points. The first point I'd like to make is that I typically don't like MMOs. I come from the FPS crowd. I do love RPGs, I just find MMOs have terrible game play and that turns me off. Destiny has bridged that gap and created some of the permanence of an MMO with "great' game play (shooting and moving is way better then clicking and watching numbers IMHO.) That being said, I am not a grindy person. I'm not used to playing the same section over, and over, and over in order to get better gear. I am looking for a challenge. This game, which I love by the way, does not present me with much challenge. It had about the easiest story mode I've played in any FPS and within the first week I already have exotic gear which in theory is supposed to the the most grindy hard to get MMO element of the game. I am not anti-social, and I do have lots of friends who play this game. My issue is I work night shift. I can't call my brother at 3 A.M to come play or hit up the guys from my COD clan or w/e. I may have the one friend up really late to party up with but that is about it. Now these are the arguments that I've heard from both sides. Bungie: "It is super hard, we want it to be the ultimate challenge - weak players need not apply." O.k. that is fine, I'm really cool with that, especially coming from the game where I mentioned I found neither the gameplay nor the grinding difficult/challenging. I think the game needs a backbone, something to sink my teeth into. That is cool. This point I agree with. No one wants to get 2 hours into something to have someone leave, afk, or just be an idiot. I get that and I appreciate that Bungie is trying to protect us. Players: "Let us make our own decisions, let us take our own risks and stop holding our hand." This I also think is a valid point. I don't think the game devs should have to baby proof everything. I think it shows a lot of disrespect to the community. Yes I get that there are trolls, 12 year olds, etc etc out there. There are also adults/teens who are dedicated, can communicate, and have a shared goal. These points I find valid. There are also points on both sides that I think are silly. Players that threaten game devs - sorry they have your money get over it and try and make it better. They don't owe you anything besides a finished game, which they did. Devs that insult their audience by saying something is "too hard" or that "it must be done" in a particular way. The raid may very well be mindshatteringly hard, coming from one of the easiest games ever that is hard to imagine, but it could actually be that hard. Give us matchmaking and let us make that conclusion. Don't assume ever match will be 100% failure, we may adapt and surprise you. I don't even care if they don't have matchmaking. The REAL issue is that they don't have matchmaking AND they don't have any social features. I've met a good 80% of my x-box friends online playing games like halo 3 and COD. Yes they are a gem in the rough, but some have even turned into IRL friends. In Destiny you can't even talk to the guys ON YOUR OWN TEAM when in crucible. This is where the real issue is. If I could wander around the city, meet people that are on when I am, maybe do some strikes with them. I could get together a group to do a raid, but the tools aren't there. So at that point I'm left to the mercy of a matchmaking system to let me access large portions of the game, but THAT TOO is gone. The game feels alone and empty, players often feel like husks and especially for the tower that literally says "social" on it that is not ok. If its just a FPS you are pumping then fine, I can get away with not talking, but if you expect coordination to complete game objectives you MUST give us the tools we need. Trying to type out messages, jumping into random parties via the system is not a solution. Bungie needs to trust its players to make their own decisions. Ok, its hard I get it. Party only is fine, but please Bungie allow us to MAKE parties, allow us to socialize and reach out. I like the game, but I've already run out of things to do besides multi-player and its been out for a week (and I work and go to university, and I'm married) so if someone like me can be end-game ready in a week the game needs difficulty/content...and if you then provide that content/difficulty don't disclude 90% of your player base. There are LOTS of solutions, chat options, opens to segment the raid (break it up into 8 save spots and jump in with people on the section you are in, you do that any way for fireteam lead), open up matchmaking. But please, respect us to make our own decisions and don't make such silly barriers. Online this sort of thing is fine, when I can type and chat and meet. In destiny it feels like I am Legend and you are asking me to party up with the last 6 survivors on earth. NOT all my friends own this game NOT all of them are on at the same time NOT all of them are at the same level and NOT all of them want to even do the raid. Stop telling us how to play and just let us play, thank you. TLDR : Bungie needs to allow socialization, stop alienating their players, and let us make our own decisions. Players need to offer solutions not just make threats.

                        • You need 6 skilled player for the raid, but you dont have a chat system ingame to ask for help. The game system kills itself. If someone dont use the Forum and put much time into making post und invite random people to get maybe 6 peeps together they are all online at the same time and want do the Raid, you miss this content. They just need to add matchmaking for the raids and weekly strikes, same like in the normal strikes and all will be good. But actually this is just stupid game mechanic that cause frustration for many players like many other things in game.

                        • I recruited 50 plus people off this forum to my existing clan, learned thier name, learned how they play, ran the vault with them and we are about to beat it this evening. Had it been matchmaking 2-3 of them would have washed out long before the first boss let alone before the final boss.

                            • At first I was mad at this too but then I realized after I played a raid why they went with their decision. Over 200 deaths on average with each person per raid AND most wont complete it in one sitting. No 5 randoms are going to stick together for 16 hours through frustrating deaths. Meeting people is as easy as coming on the forums or even inspecting and sending someone a friendly message. I guess real world skills to apply sometimes. You should learn some.
