Also, only a small number of crates actually spawn. Once someone uses it, teammates in their [i]immediate[/i] vicinity get ammo. After that, whenever someone with heavy ammo dies, their killer can pick up the ammo that is left. In the end, the heavy ammo has been used or lost within a couple minutes, depending on the map. Either get some yourself or be a but more cautious when you know the ammo's out there.

Yeah I understand what being cautious is. I wasn't asking for advice on the matter. I was explaining how it takes the fun out of the game. I think there should be even less special ammo out there, right now it is too much.

It gives diversity. Instead of everyone using the same old primaries [i]all the time[/i] , you get more types of weapons in play. The more powerful the gun, the less abundant its ammo. It's an attempt to combine variety with balance, and I think Bungie did it pretty well.
