While Mass Effect did a great job telling their story, it was largely ripped from other sci-fi films and games. There are scenes right out of Star Wars, Star Trek, ALIENS, 5th Element, etc. that you can pick up on right away even starting in the first game. So what's the point? It's almost impossible for a game to be "original" these days in theme and plot w/o there already being something out there similar.

  • Mass Effect was directly inspired by 80s sci-fi movies and novels. It's one big love letter to the genre itself. I assume Destiny is as well.

  • Yeah, it's no secret that the creators of ME draw inspirations from those stories and even copied it and expanded it. I have no issue with it though, drawing inspiration and ideas from great ideas is never a bad thing. When someone as massive and popular as Star Trek, it's bound to be copied to some degree, same can be said about Mass Effect.
