Destiny

Discuss all things Destiny.

Destiny should lock people out of playing the game if they are 12 years old or under on their account.

I agree.

I disagree.

I have no strong feelings one way or the other.

Young children are so impressionable nowadays and I fear that many of them will play this game. Let's consider the idea of personal roles in killing other sentient beings. To kids, virtual experiences feel very real, not only because the graphics today are so amazing, but because they are taking on a first-person role in the killing process. Rather than just passively watching a rated-R violent movie, when kids play a game, they are one of the main characters inside the adventure. The entire experience becomes a more meaningful -- and deadly - in their brains, which are forming new connections every day. The other issue is that children will play a game where they mostly resolve conflicts through violence. Violent video games show kids how to express themselves physically, in a violent way. It's already way easier for a child to push another child when they're angry than to express their emotions and resolve a conflict through words. When you hear the tragic, heart-wrenching stories such as what happened in Newtown, CT, you wonder how exposure to violent games de-sensitizes people to the act of killing other people. What if that could carry over to their own life or others? The very possibility of creating sociopathic tendencies is something that should be avoided, not created. It also exposes children to possible instances of explicit languages which might shatter and destroy their youthful innocence. It's all about that confusion between reality and fantasy that may be difficult for a young person like that to see and understand. Is that what we really want to expose children to? Is that the sort of thing we want to promote? I propose the following and simple solution: Destiny checks the birthday of the user's account If it is less than 13, then that account will not be able to play until that user's 13th birthday has been reached as the game is rated T for teen and no one younger, lest their young and impressionable minds be exposed to the horrors that might push them over the edge. I personally believe that this is the best means to protect a growing new generation from sinking into sin and violence. Let me also present a legitimate and completely trustworthy source free of any bias: Fox News I have created a poll to provide a means to look at the responses of the thread at a glance, making it easier for discussion to be facilitated. Thank you for reading.

  • It is the job of the parents of said children to parent their kid correctly, not the job of game designers to do that for them.

Ironically the great Oryx (In real life) is actually 15. I can be immature at times and annoying, but when I'm playing with randoms or adults then I shut my mouth and play and follow orders. (Even though I'm the one that gives orders most of the time because I'm the only one that knows tactics around each scenario) All kids should act like that ^

      • I didn't read all that but playing with kids is annoying, so I vote yes. Thats why the clan I joined has an age limit on it. No kids allowed :)

        • I disagree. Video games have nothing to do with Violent kids. That's the parents fault for allowing those specific kids to play the game. Some kids take it more seriously than others. Example. My younger brother of 8, plays Destiny and kicks ass, but never mentions it outside of playing the game. Nicest kid ever. My other younger brother of 10, I would never, and I mean NEVER allow to play destiny because he takes violent games too seriously, so I disallow him to play violent video games. And "mass killers OFTEN have an OBSESSION with Violent video games" is what that article says... often isn't always. A player isn't obsessed. They are a player. Now if they play every second of every day, it's all they talk about, or think about.. that would be an obsession. There's no reason to prevent an entire age group from having fun because of their age group. For the record.. I'm 22. Just so I don't get so much shit for saying the above.. and.. that younger kids can also be more skilled than those who are older.

          • Based on what you're saying then kids shouldn't be exposed to anything violent. So don't let them watch any films, TV, news, don't let them read any books (including the bible - pretty violent) magazines or news papers. Wrap them in cotton wool and lock them in a darkened room till they turn 18. Video games don't make killers, they are just screwed up individuals who will latch onto something - be that video games, the news or boxing. You can't hide kids away from the world - parents just need to act like parents and teach their kids the difference between right and wrong.

              • 12-year-olds need to stay away from Super Mario games, too. They encourage children to eat "magic mushrooms" that make them super powerful and big, and it teaches them that it's OK to kick turtles.

              • I don't like squeakers but should be banned by the developers from playing their game? that's ridiculous dude. If you play w. A young cat just boot him & keep it moving. I personally never find myself w. Children. & I raid minimum 6 times a week using LFG every single time. i hardly ever find young cats. & if I do, if they're annoying as shit I give them the boot. otherwise I jus lay down the law. -if I instruct you to do something, do it. -don't talk shit to anybody. -watch your damn mouth (children cursing like a grown man is a giant pet peeve of mine) -be open to suggestions. I've come across some who are really good at the game. but most aren't. So all I ask is they accept the feedback given, I won't stand for somebody holding my fireteam back cus they're being stubborn. so any time I get in w. Youngins if they can't abide by that, then they simply get told to leave. but again, I hardly ever even get put w. Them so this barely affects my gameplay.

                • The game has a teen rating. They shouldn't be on anyways. Also all online interaction (which is all of destiny) cannot be rated and there for are automatically a M rated game. They shouldn't be here, they should have no say, Bungie didn't want them here, but Activision is calling the shots.

                  • Let me put it this way. 1. kids would still lie about there age and play 2. kids see and hear worse in school. 3. If you know how to raise your kids right there should be no issue, when I was 12 I played games but was limited, my Parents would hook my system up(n64 at the time) to the living room TV for 1 hr a day as along as I had behaved, sometimes I was allowed to play longer like on rainy days. Honestly it is not the games that are the issue it is parents letting there kids play games 24/7 that is the issue.
