Actually, during the beta, I found myself running across people on my friends' list that I wasn't grouped with on more than one occasion. I know they've mentioned that part of the matchmaking process in explore and what not is geographical. But I know that guy is halfway across the US from me, so I have to imagine it's partially friend list related to. I honestly don't know how, but the odds of me and him being in a game together are astronomically small given how big the beta was, so I have to believe it wasn't a coincidence. I was in a fire team of 2 and he was in one of 3.

Whether or not the other people in your 'phase' is based on friends list i don't know, but it should be, or at least 'friends of friends', like '2 degrees of separation' would work well i think.

Thanks for the response man! I really hope that is the case. I was play on 360 and we have an xbox party of 5 and couldn't get all of us together except in the Crucible. But hopefully we were just missing something! None of us really new what we were doing beside shooting aliens and the like. My hope is that they include a button for friends like "invite to fireteam" but "invite to server," just so you have a little control.

Well, how's this for an idea! You know how can join someone's fire team and it ports you to them? Like the tower, or explore, or wherever they're at? Try this. Form a fire team of 3, and go to explore. Then when you get there, have one person drop the fire team but stay in the area. Then add one more person. Rinse. Repeat. Eventually, all 5 of you will be in the same explore area! Then you can use party chat (or whatever it's called on your platform) to talk to all of your buddies at once! I haven't personally tried this, but I don't see why it wouldn't work! Best of luck :D

Sometimes (or maybe all the time?) when you dropped or got dropped from a Fireteam it kicked you back to orbit. There were a few times when I would stay on planet with my buddies though so maybe this does work. I'll test it out on Tuesday.

When my brother would drop from my fire team it was hit or miss whether he'd get booted to orbit or not. Like I said, I'm not sure if it'd work but.. it'd be sweet if it did!
