  • Nope, I have played my Xbox One in a hotel with no WiFi because it couldn't recognize the terrible signal. Still could play the single player games though.

  • If my internet goes down on the PS4, I can't play Destiny. If my internet goes down on the X1 and I can't sign in, I can't play any game. That's the problem people had. DRM that affects games is bad. DRM that affects an entire console is worse.

  • They changed that policy prior to the release of the Xbox 1, there is no 24 hour check in anymore. They were getting way to much hate for trying to implement it, so they abandoned it.

  • Wait, you have to check-in every 24 hours with Destiny?

  • No, with destiny you need to be online to play. Period.. What they are referring to is how Microsoft was initially planning to not let ANY games be played on the Xbox 1 without checking into the internet every 24 hours. This was never actually implemented however, since they received a torrential downpour of hate for this decision.

  • Only if you're playing a game and only on your own console. It was to stop people from borrowing games but I thought Microsoft ditched that idea. Still a sketchy concept though...

  • 1 game is not comparable to an entire system.

  • A single game is much more understandable than an entire platform. That said, I sympathize with Brute here. The main argument against the Xbox One being an online-only machine was making the console online-only was a restriction it clearly didn't need to have. And from what I've seen of Destiny in trailers and online gameplay, I'm not convinced an online connection should be required for everything in the game. It's like requiring people to have an online connection to play Fable 2 because the devs argue that seeing the location of the people in your friends list in game is such a core part of the experience that without it the game is just not worth playing.

  • There's a big difference between an online only game and an online only console. There are still plenty of great games that OP can play offline, despite Destiny requiring the internet. However, if gaming platforms in general required the internet, he wouldn't be able to play anything at all.

  • Doesn't that argument kind of fall apart when the game that OP really wants is internet restricted though?

  • No, because the OP should have probably known that one of the primary draws of Destiny was it's online nature. It's akin to not being able to buy Halo a game because it's a shooter, and not a puzzle game. It might not be the game you wanted, but that's it's thing, and there are puzzle games out there. That, and the OP still has the ability to buy and play games that don't require online play, as 90-some-odd% of games out there, and do so uninterrupted.

  • I guess everybody is going to keep missing the point. Everybody who wants to buy Destiny is going to deal with the same problem in the end because they need internet to play it.

  • We're not missing the point; you are. Yes, everyone who can't play online will not be able to play Destiny. One game. One game with online as it's front-most feature. A console with online requirements means that other games WITHOUT online play wouldn't be playable either. THAT'S THE PROBLEM. Certain people won't be able to play one of MANY GAMES, and they wouldn't be able to play ANY GAMES on a console that requires it. It's a matter of OPTIONS and AVAILABILITY.

  • Nah man, I'm not missing the point, I'm simply stating at the end of the day, the masses are demanding a game that has the same feature that the masses cast down as being pretty much the spawn of evil itself. Granted, one was a console feature, and the other was a single game's feature, but it doesn't matter, so long as people play Destiny, they are willingly dealing with the same features that Xbone originally tried, and yet, has anybody stopped to ask: Why doesn't Bungie just make an offline mode? Nope, because people hate Xbox for the same reason they love Destiny, and that is: Fanboys gonna fanboy.
