While I'm not a fan of the Crucible, I do feel like Bungie did find a good balance with player count. More players don't mean more fun. From my time with the beta, the maps felt good in the sense of how big they were, espeically the map thats on the moon that includes vehicles. The only time player count was ever an issue was when teams were unbalanced - which is a constant inevitability in games but its an issue thats so much more noticeable on lower player counts such as 6v6 or 4v4 where the difference in team numbers can be game changing.
All that being said, I believe the player count is fine in the Crucible. I would have personally liked a fourth person to be apart of a fireteam for co-op, but I do understand making it 3 because of the 3 classes available.

Im one of the first to admit that what I played so far in the beta felt like good game design. Maps never felt too empty nor too crowded. I said that in my post, so I do understand freedom of creativity that bungie has taking but in some other cases I question the reasons behind such as The Tower allowing 16 people but you cant invite 16 people to hangout with you in the tower, you can just have a group of 6.
