Doesn't competitiveness kinda go against Christian values? I thought it was 'love thy neighbour' not 'curb-stomp thy neighbour and get a higher K/D than them' lol

From what I've learned if you can separate what you will do in a video game from real life it's ok
-
Its a video game -.-
-
That's ignorant. Your ignorant. Na I am just joking. Christian men and women make good sports players

Yeah! Just tell them their going to hell if they don't score! That gets them working overtime! lol jk :P

-
Wow, I went away for an hour and came back to find a philosophical debate! lol
-
Not at all. Do you believe competitiveness to be a bad thing?
-
Edited by Cultellus: 8/26/2014 6:05:59 PMNot in theory...it should bring out the best of us, make as aim higher. But in practice it can be bad. Humans eventually turn it into bullying and those who aren't good at competing get shafted, even if it's through no fault of their own. AKA, someone born with a learning disability made to feel stupid and worthless by exams and not being able to measure up to their fellow students.
-
Eh it depends. Most are pacifists and are afraid of violence. Some of us are the equivalent of modern Crusaders, and enjoy violence if it's for a good purpose. :)
-
Most are pacifist? Lol, that's presumptuous. Crusader? As long as it's for a good reason? Seeking violence isn't a good reason, and the crusades were just the same.
-
The crusades were more of a response to Muslim invasion of Europe than anything else.
-
Modern crusaders....I like it! Lol that's the first thing a Christian has said to me that's ever made me think about taking up faith!
-
So you haven't met many REAL Christian men then. Raise a hand to my wife or daughter and you'll find that I can and will use "violence" to defend them. Christians are willing to die for what is right, we aren't called to lay down and let it happen. WW2 is an example of this. Now I'm not saying we seek the situations, that's a form of pride. Nor do I say that we revel in violence. But as MEN we will fight if necessary only if necessary.
-
Also, you should know that the Jew's situation as a whole during the Holocaust was not the United States' primary reason for entering the war, so that doesn't bolster your statement.
-
What? The OP is the one who stated that he sought violence, and I'm saying that most Christians are not "pacifists" lol. You should direct your positions better, and update your philosophy. You should defend anyone that has a "hand raised" against them. Modern Christianity isn't to sit back and do nothing, despite the founder of the religion, Jesus Christ, stating that you should turn the other cheek in the event of being slapped. Hop off the "back in my day" train, people. Humans are humans, and all generations, collectively, have their issues. Modern thinking isn't a single way of doing things, it's the ability to open your mind to facts and morality, and base your opinions on that. Get with the times.
-
Christ also told Peter to buy a sword, and drove people out of the temple with a whip. Also there is this: Eph. 6:13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
-
I hate the modern Christian idea of sitting back and taking crap. Love, yes. But balance it with the wrath of God. Eliminate threats to all that is good.
-
No, we are called to proclaim the good news. We fight only when other options are taken from us. Lay it all at the cross God will let you know when you must fight.
-
I gotta say man, I will defend if attacked or if my loved ones are attacked.
-
That sounds extreme
-
What can I say? Sometimes, extreme situations call for extreme reaction.
-
And what's considered extreme by you? Obviously most people don't want serial killers running around. But where do you draw the line? I'm just curious.
-
Extreme is killing those who have done no wrong. Protect the helpless and do no wrong.
