Its because its a role playing game your guardian does not have to to be a spitting image of you maybe people like the smaller build because the want a ninja character
Others because the just want too why do males choose a male character do you like looking at a man constantly? I don't that's why I choose a female they are more appealing to me and my play style. And I don't think people should be called names based upon there play style. Rant over

Internal female tendencies

When I play RPGs I like to imagine my actions as the avatars story unfolding like a regular game. I also don't see any good female leads very often. So I like to make a female character when I play RPGs so I can have the pleasure of enjoying an awesome story with a good female lead. I like to play as male characters too but sometimes having a fem protagonist is just so much more fun. Case in point, fem Shep.
-
I could careless which gender I play as, but choosing a female in an RPG like game is an old habit from Fallout because of that black widow perk. Ever since, any RPG game I play I choose to play as a female accompanied by a race that isn't human. It's just completely different from who I am - a human male
-
Otherwise it would be 5000-1 ratio, just makes the aesthetics of the games character population skewed.
-
I played as a female Titan during the Beta. There is nothing wrong with it. In a gaming world where the vast majority of protagonists in video games are males, I thoroughly enjoy the notion of being able to play as a female character whenever the option is present and it truly broadens my sense of gaming equality. Being able to appreciate female video game characters gives me a better perspective of women in general. I have several female gaming friends in my friends list and a beautiful girlfriend. I have a huge amount of respect for them all. They [gaming women] put up with a lot from immature male gamers who constantly harass them. Moreover, if I hadn't played a female soldier in Mass Effect, I probably would have missed out on Jennifer Hale's exceptional voice acting and that would have been the greatest of shames upon me.

Badass women are badass, mainstream female protagonists are far and in between. Examples? Wonder Woman, Korra from Legend of Korra, Satsuki Kiryuin (Yes, I'm a weeb), Lara Croft and Fem Shep to name a few... way more than the endless list of male protagonists. People may give bland excuses like: "Oh, I don't want to stare at a man's ass because I have to verify my heterosexuality or that females are the strategically better choice because smaller hit boxes..." Yeah, oOoOkay. I don't think this is the right answer, for some reason it sounds wrong to me. Deep down, everyone (males and females alike) wants to see a more powerful representations of the female gender. Personally, I love seeing awesome, complex characters of all flavors; females especially and I think everyone else does too. Its different compared to the early representation of women in video games. Just sayin' "Badass women are badass." That's just my perspective though, people will play who that want to play for various reasons. Feel free to leave your thoughts. I'll see all guardians starside! Thanks for reading. ^_^

Edited by Dracuur: 8/26/2014 10:19:32 PMMy reason for choosing a male character is im male
-
I choose to virtually represent myself as a male because i am a male.
-
Some people want a story behind their character, think the other gender is more badass, or just like the way their character looks in another gender. Or maybe they're 12 and can jerk off to third person awoken bootay
-
To each his/her own i always say. There are badass female characters aswell as males so it doesnt matter in Destiny. I jus prefer to be a male cause thats what i am in real life. If i was born a woman id play a female role
-
My friends's reason(who is a guy): Why look at a guy's butt all day, when you can look at a GIRL'S BUTT!!!!
immature, I know
-
BECAUSE THEY CAN THATS WHY!
-
I dont care what gender people choose to play as. But the excuse "I'd rather look at a females ass than a males ass" is a stupid excuse for Destiny because it is mostly in First Person. Then for the parts that are third person, you should be paying attention to your surroundings and where you are going and not constantly watching your characters ass. If you are constantly staring at your characters ass, im sorry but something must be wrong with you.
-
I choose to play a male character because that is my gender. I don't like playing as a female on any game. But that's just me; its not like I make all my videogame characters look exactly like me. I make my own separate character for each game and role play with them.
-
wow an OP on the topic of male and female characters in video games that actually gets it. 10/10

Edited by Im1 MentalNinja: 8/27/2014 1:41:23 AMOr people choose whatever they want because it's an option in the game to choose.
-
Agreed. All my friends call me gay, or say im a wanna be girl. And i say this to them every time. Then they realize that they sound WAY more attracted to men than they originally intended it to sound for me. Finally someone else that agrees.
-
A female is more appealing to your play style? What does that mean?
-
True but if you ask me...I'll play as a girl for somthing different. I will start with a male Titan and then a female warlock
-
They have better armor and look better in armor
-
Hah! I choose a male character because practically all video game protagonists are male! You like staring at virtual ass, good for you ya lonely bastards!
-
No no no, everyone has to play as themselves. Ugly people get their armor automatically adjusted to look stupid, fat people can't jump as high in the game, weak people's Fists of Havoc and melee attacks do less damage, if you can't throw a knife in real life the Hunter ability has a 50% chance to land on the handle instead of the blade, doing 1 damage...
-
Go back to masturbating to pokemon
-
Why is this a problem? I personally like my character to look like me but who gives a damn about how other people play a game?
-
I don't want to play a male because I'm doing that in real life.
