Inevitable console upgrade...what do I choose?

XBone

897

PS4

1177

So I'm currently an xbox 360 player. I know that one day, probably nearer to Christmas time, I will be upgrading to a next gen console. I've had my heart set on the PS4 for some time but now, due to Destiny, I've had my head turned towards the Xbone only because of the ability to transfer my Destiny account from 360 to Xbone. I know the first DLC in December will be for all consoles but after that I'm pretty sure they'll only be available for next gen. So here's my question. Do I opt for the Xbone for the ability to transfer or do I go for the PS4 and start all over again but enjoy the bonus of timed exclusives?

    • Get the console depending on friends and games. Don't make your decision over which console has the best hardware because I've played both and there is basically no notable difference.

When it's matters this small then it doesn't really matter, if you cannot have access to your current gen (XB1/PS4) then share your account over the one and 360. But if you get PS4, then I can't play with the guy who has the name Star Lord. We now have a real problem.

Despite what all the blind defenders said, Cheesefactory is (mostly) right. You just have a bunch fanboys trying to defend their console of choice. Every technical review of current-gen consoles shows that the PS4 is outperforming the XB1 where it counts. Typical differences include these major categories when playing AAA titles: 1. Higher resolution: A lot of games run less than 1080p on XB1 2. Higher frame rate: The visual difference between 30 and 60 fps is negligible, the real difference is when your connection starts lagging as the servers get heavier traffic. If you are running 60fps then you can expect to drop to around 30-45fps which still looks great. But if you are running 30fps, then you can expect to drop around 10-20fps which looks like shit. It doesn't matter though, bungie said that they are making Destiny to run 1080p at 30fps on all platforms because they wanted parity with graphics. Basically, the XB1 doesnt have the sack to run 1080p at 60fps, so Bungie dumbed it down for everybody else "to create parity." 3. GPU performance: this effects all sorts of things in game. Want something to blame? Heres a fun fact for ya... developers have to account for the kinect using 10% of the gpu's ultra-awesomeness, which makes the XB1's games run more slowly. And this is a road block that simply isnt there when developing for the PS4. For those of you that played the Tomb Raider HD remix on XB1... I'm so very sorry you had to go through that. It ran flawlessly on the PS4. 4. Larger community: Yes Cheesefactory was right to emphasize this in multiple ways. Why? The PS4 is crushing the XB1 in every conceivable market which makes it not only the most popular current seller, but bodes well for its future sells as well. This is a consumer trend that feeds itself for products with high use/reuse value. The more people that have it, the more people will buy it (to a certain point). To put it simple; more people have PS4s, and people want what their friends have, so more people are going to get PS4s. Which is the most important thing... I am what you would call an omni-gamer. I have em all. And despite everything I just posted, I will playing on the XB1. Why? Cause thats what my friends will be playing on and that is consequently where I will have the most fun playing any game. Moral of this retardedly long-winded rant? Get what your friends have. Thats how you'll get the most bang for your buck. Good luck brah.
Stop calling PS4 and XB1 "next gen" consoles. The day they hit the market, they became current gen. Next gen is what is coming next, not what is currently out
I honestly think Sony is really going to kill MS this gen. This might be X-Boxs last year.

    • But did you know that your DLC's can be on both consoles. Just like your character's! They transfer across last gen to next gen and back. Very cool, its the first buy one, get one free sale on both console types. This is more useful on Xbox then PS in my opinion. Just another reason to get Xbone. But, I can not make a decision for you and none of these other people can. We can just give you an opinion of what we think and no facts...(CheeseFactory). You can read meaning less words off a monitor like Obama, or you can be better then that and do something about it. Only you can do something about it. You can do it.

    • Ask yourself this... Do you want to keep your rank and where are your friends at. Also do you care about your achievements, ranks, tenure, etc on your 360? If so I'd just get an Xbox One... but as always its your choice and no one else's.

    • Well ask yourself how many of your current friends that you play with have already switched or are gonna switch to X1 or PS4. Will you miss out on playing with anyone that you care about? Do you mind having to start your friends list over again? Also do you have a controller preference?

      • Wherever friends/true exclusives you want to play are. For me, that's the X1. If PS4's got more of your friends and/or exclusives you want to play, more power to ya!

      • All talk of "fanhood" aside, I transferred over from the xbox 360 to the PS4 and haven't regretted the decision at all. My decision to transfer was mostly guided by where my close online friends would be going, and we all agreed on the PS4. I'm sure that Destiny will be great on both consoles, but PS4 will have better access to timed exclusives, so it might be better to go that route if you really care about getting DLC as soon as possible. But also consider the exclusives of each game and decide which of them you'd rather play, unless Destiny is the only game you'll ever play on nextgens lol

      • Get whatever one you want, either you're an Xbox or Playstation fan already. It boils down to preference, do you like Coke or Pepsi? Do you have to ask other people what to drink? No need to inadvertently start a forum console battle.

The timed exclusives won't mean anything by December. Also if you really have your heart set on Ps4 then why not save your money and just wait to get the game on ps4 so u don't gave to worry about transferring saves???

        • go with the one that has the best exclusives in your opinion. Its pointless to argue hardware as the difference is marginal, and price doesn't matter anymore as xbox one dropped to $400 (without kinect, but still). The only deciding factor should be where your friends are and what games you want to play.

          • Same boat as you to transfer from 360 to Xbone is a good thing. It may take a while for me to get next gen and I wouldn't really want to start over. Exclusive don't bother me that much, just wait a little longer, so what. My two cents on the two consoles: I know some people out there are obsessed with one console being better than the other in terms of hardware, I don't agree. Hardware is hardly going to make a big difference, slightly better GPU here, slightly overclocked CPU there, no big whoop, these are consoles not PCS.
My two year old laptop has 24GB of ram...
Xbone will have the MC Collection in November, I can't pass on that. So I'll stick with the Xbone. But with PS4 you can easily upgrade your internal hard drive to a bigger/faster one. That's pretty sweet! Good guide here: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2014-ps4-hard-drive-upgrade-guide July Game Informer had a cool article as well, can't find it right now, but it listed good drives from regular to solid state to hybrid solid state. Honestly, 500GB is not a lot if you upload games, movies, whatever. Plus an upgrade will give you better performance. For the Xbone you can add an external drive, USB3, so should be faster/better than your internal drive. Good guide here: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2014-xbox-one-external-hard-drive-upgrade-guide So if you won't miss The Chief, PS4 is a good option, I would prefer the internal upgrade option myself, but performance results look like they'll it comes out pretty even. And if 500BG is plenty of space for you, you don't have to worry. Just my two cents :)

            • I would tell you to go for the PS4, but personally I do usually dislike having to replay games. If you are getting Destiny before the console upgrade then I would wait until after you have the game and have made progress. Then decide how you feel from there. Would it be bad or fun to replay the game? It sounds like you have plenty of time to decide anyway.

Both are $399.99. You'll find more POS4 fanboys voting because Xbox one owners are too busy enjoying their kick ass console. The X1 keeps getting updated and it's awesome. 1080p, 4k, 3D, Stable fps (not overhyped dropping fps like the POS4) better color depth, crisper edges, etc. POS4 always looks shaby and grey in comparison. I had both. I returned the POS4 after 2 weeks. I like to test out both new gen consoles to see what's what. So far I have been very happy with Xbox every gen. This one is no different. Failstation's spec looks slightly better on paper every gen. But always fails to matter when it comes to games. Wish they would back up the hype. I'll get death threats for this post but I could care less. lol I hate to see a fellow gamer get screwed and have regrets.

              • I was an xbox player until this gen. Ps4 is meant for gaming. In my opinion it won by far in the consoles. But, choose the console your friends play on. It's well worth it.
